Some Of Eddie Howe’s Press Conference Comments For Home Game Against Brighton Tomorrow

Here are some of Eddie Howe’s comments today in his press conference, and because it’s the final home game of the season against Brighton tomorrow afternoon (3:00pm KO) he has taken the opportunity to thank Newcastle fans for their support at St. James’ Park.

We are competing for something; we are in the mix. We have three games in a massive week for us, it will go down to the wire. We back ourselves, we are in a good place.”

“We have loved playing at home this season, I have been really pleased with how we have performed at home.”

“We have a good feel, good energy and have been very aggressive in our play. We are thankful for the support we have received from the fans.”

“The crowd have embraced our style. It’s been a good partnership between the crowd and the players.”

“Kieran is getting closer; he has trained this week. It was the first time with the group.”

“He trained well, it has been a good week for him. I will make a decision today whether he will be involved tomorrow.”

I would be surprised if Trippier starts tomorrow, but he may come on in the second half to set him up for the crucial final 2 games of the season at Manchester United And Brentford.

    Fenham,
From what I’ve read I’d like to sign him but have grave concerns about his injury record. What is making me so vocal about him is because some people seem to be completely dismissing his injuries and worse still justifying them by saying Dummet never played either.

Knowing the “facts” that the medical staff are incompetent and EH rushes players back too quickly, I’m not sure this Kelly is a good player to sign. 😉

You are a compete and utter idiot

You scream how much you are a fan and how much you support the toon every fckn day, rinse and repeat. Nobody cares about you being desperate for acceptance…

It doesn’t matter if I think Adam is the vegan or not.

It doesn’t matter if Adam is the vegan or not.

    Either way it doesn’t matter.

Stop bringing others into a desperation to grab attention as nobody truly cares.

I guarantee right now and if I’m proven wrong I’ll donate £100 to SBR foundation that you’ll never be involved in a blog meet up or you’ll never be in the toon watching a game ever again.

Raj, he’s not in my team. I think Eddie has spoken to Gareth and knows that Trippier only has to confirm his fitness to be in the Euros squad.
I did wonder about including Pope for tomorrow, as he does need game time. I left him out, but he might come in for Old Trafford.

Nobody his dismissing his injuries and the Dummet thing has been explained multiple times.

    Put it this way,

Scenario A (next season): Kelly is starting left back but gets injured. Burn, Hall and Targett are back ups to step in.

Scenario B (this season): Burn is starting left back but gets injured. Hall, Targett and Dummett are back ups to step in.

    Which scenario is better?

Nobody is trying to justify it by saying Dummett never played either. Dummett becomes into the equation because removing him from possible left back options and adding Kelly, makes us better. It just so happens both have had a rough time with injuries.

Worst case scenario and Kelly gets injured, is still a stronger position to be in than worst case scenario Dummett gets injured this season, due to the overall quality of left back options having increased by adding Kelly and removing Dummett.

I can’t explain it any further or any better so that’ll be the last I say on it and closing Kelly-gate behind me 🙂

    Jail,

After the season we’ve had, the last thing we need is another sick note so I appreciate the worry about us signing Kelly. Ledge who I have a lot of respect for as he knows his onions re football I’m sure was also against this signing because of his injury record, so you re definitely not alone there…

There is absolutely no doubting that Lloyd Kelly has huge talent and is technically gifted. He is fast strong, good in the air, has a great delivery and a good tackler. We just have to have faith in our clubs hiring process and thinking. They’ve not really let us down so far which makes me much less nervous as I trust their thinking and processes.

    Mund,

We’ll look at that Murphy third only behind De Bruyne and Salah in the most assists from open play. Wow that’s impressive stat that is, he brings so much to the squad. The way he plays sometimes he goes under the radar, but that ball he dunked to Isak to run onto against SU was exquisite. He has so much to offer and them stats are unbelievable.

Getting Tripps back would be absolutely huge for these last 3 matches. Just giving us the opportunity to have fresh legs and options will be nice. I wouldnt start him against the Gulls but bring him on around the 65 min mark because we could use his leadership at Old Trafford. Also having Joelinton back in the Engine Room is huge. This next 8 days are gonna be some of the best for us as fans in the last 2 decades. Time to grab a t5 finish and win for a second time at Old Trashford in one season.

From twitter but has been reported in the Mail so not sure how much legs these rumours have, but here goes anyway:

“Newcastle United look increasingly likely to sign Tosin Adarabioyo on a free transfer from Fulham- and @MailSport have today revealed that Belgium defender Zeno Debast is also firmly on their radar.

Chief scout Steve Nickson watched the 20-year-old during Belgium’s 2-2 draw with England at Wembley in March, on a night which the Anderlecht centre-back was very impressive.

The Magpies like his profile a lot, and his versatility is a big positive – as he can also operate at right-back and in midfield. Sources in Belgium say he has an agreement with his club which states he can leave this summer, and a fee of around £15million has been rumoured”

Already a full Belgium international at 20 and had for £15m. Eyesemoji

Aye Jail nobody wants another Dummett who was mainly crocked. If he does get injured like Dummett what’s the point. If there was a chance this would be the case it’s a huge gamble just not as much financially due to it being a free. He is streets ahead of Dummett in technical ability also though. Hopefully the injury issue can be managed accordingly.

From Chris Waugh who has done a deep dive into results since Eddie Howe became manager:

“29.5% pre-Howe win ratio, to 49% under Howe
    PL top 5 for points/goals
    Metrics show style transformed
    Strong signings, huge player improvement

    Schar most-used “

Look at how much we’ve jumped up by for win ratio. 20% rise is immense. 49% win ratio is very impressive and if it weren’t for the fact we had so many injuries it could have you’re easily been 52%-54%. The scary thing is Eddie will keep us on a consistent improvement until we’re at the very top. There’s absolutely nothing stopping him achieving this with NUFC. He has a great fan base right behind him and IMO the best owners in football supporting him.

    Jail,

Apparently Trippier is fit to play tomorrow but he will be on the bench and get 30mins tomorrow. Joelinton may get more.

I personally can see Trippier and Joelinton starting against man u. Trippier is a great leader at the back and would help Krafth massively. We’ve really missed his captaining and organising skills. Eddie won’t allow though for everything to go through Tripper as we’ve got Gordon flying down the left. Also corners Gordon has done some lovely inswingers. But I’d be over the moon if trippier started against manu. Joelinton also would be a huge huge boost

We’ve been on a great run (CP apart) without KT and I’d hate to lose Tino’s pace at the back as KT’s errors were starting to cost us a few games. Also AG has been awesome on set pieces and we’ve appeared less one dimensional . Great for rotation but I don’t think KT should just walk straight back in as a starter.
