Newcastle have announced they will travel in pre-season to Japan.
With the squad due to play a couple of games in Melbourne, Australia immediately this Premier League season ends – that’s a lot of air travel for the lads.
The Magpies are coming to Japan! ???
We will travel to the Land of the Rising Sun in preparation for the 2024/25 Premier League season after being invited to take part in the @J_League_En International Series 2024 with games against Urawa Red Diamonds and Yokohama F. Marinos ?

This is more detail posted on the Newcastle website about the tour:
Newcastle United will travel to Japan in preparation for the 2024/25 Premier League season after being invited to take part in the ‘J.League International Series 2024 powered by docomo’.
As part of the 2024 event, the Magpies will arrive in Tokyo on Sunday, 28th July before taking on 2022 AFC Champions League winners Urawa Red Diamonds at the 63,700-capacity Saitama Stadium on Wednesday, 31st July. Kick-off is at 7:30pm (all local times).
Eddie Howe’s side will then face last season’s J.League runners-up Yokohama F. Marinos – managed by former Leeds and Liverpool midfielder Harry Kewell – at the impressive Japan National Stadium on Saturday, 3rd August. Kick-off is at 7pm.
Ticket information and further details – including plans for supporter events in Tokyo – will be confirmed in due course.
Eddie Howe said:
“We are pleased to be visiting Japan this summer. It’s an amazing country and it will be a unique experience for our players, staff and supporters.”
“We will be taking on two strong teams at two special stadiums, and I’m sure they will present the type of physical tests we need at that time as we build towards next season.”
The J.League has attracted several heavyweights of European football in recent years, with Manchester City, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Chelsea and Sevilla all previously travelling to the Land of the Rising Sun to participate.Last year, clubs including Paris Saint-Germain, Inter Milan and Celtic also participated in their own friendly matches in Japan in preparation for their respective 2023/24 campaigns, while UEFA Champions League finalists Borussia Dortmund have confirmed they will return to play in Osaka this summer as part of an Asian tour.
Newcastle United’s chief commercial officer, Peter Silverstone, said:
“We thank J.League and docomo for inviting the club to be part of what has become a hugely popular series in the Japanese football calendar.”
“Newcastle United has fan communities in Japan and across Asia, and this is an exciting opportunity for the club play in front of local and travelling supporters on an iconic stage as we continue to grow our presence globally.”
“Meanwhile, we want to connect and engage with partners both in the UK and in other key territories. As we step out in our new adidas kits, for example, we will be wearing a brand that has a long-established and special connection with Japanese sport and culture, and that presents unique mutual opportunities.”
“For any pre-season tour, our aim is to support the needs of our teams during this crucial period and the players will train and play at elite facilities in Japan.”
“We are continuing to work collaboratively on our overall pre-season schedule and hope to announce additional matches in the UK and Europe soon.”

Comment #43Joelinton has to start tomorrow. I think isak and Wilson will both feature too.
Will Eddie go for experience and stick KP in at RB or stick with Tino?
I have a feeling Schar may start also in place of Krafth who has done well in his place but we’ve really missed Schar pinging them long diagonal balls over the top for Isak and Gordon. Also the way he brings the ball out we’ve missed massively too.

Comment #44Isak will feature from the start: Wilson from the bench. Don’t trust Eddie Howe he likes to do the old poker face trick. He’s a pro at it and does throw the opponents a bit.

Saw your message from earlier, I know what you’re talking about regarding that we always make things hard or bottle it. Worst case, the entertainers, that loss to Man U when Cantona scored and we had outplayed them was a dagger in the heart. The Liverpool 4-3 too. Not sure it was the same season TBH.
Now, fast forward. Why am I confident? Have we become super consistent? On the contrary, Eddie himself has admitted as much.
But it’s been a solid season, with some incredible highs (and some shitty performances, sure, of course!) and, no matter what, a very respectable finish. I had predicted tenth, worst case scenario we’ll be eighth.
Conclusion: I understand we aren’t a City yet but, when we turn up it’s a hell of a ride, so I am enjoying it. And we’re playing football we’re not defending for our lives. We’re giving it a go.
PS. I’m relaxed about tomorrow even though a loss is actually expected by the non partisan, me too actually. I hope we give an honorable account of ourselves, play like it’s a cup final (better actually, we fxxx those up) and come what may.

Spot on about the billions of investment pumped into London, totally disproportionate to the rest of the country.
Garden Bridge, Jubilee Line and so much more. Usually massively over budget and with fat cats creaming off their take at every opportunity.
And the A1 upgrade , wheres that at ?

That’s it, no expense spared for the capital. Councils up here begging for money to refurbish a critical bit of infrastructure.
I’m not dismissing the human right abuses in Saudi, they happen, it’s a fact. For me I don’t see the logic in us (or the west in general) refusing to have anything to do with them. If not us, Europe and America, it would be China, and they’re hardly a bastion of rights. It’s ultimately for the people of these places to fight for these things and be supported in doing so, you can’t just turn up and force things into people. That’s not how it happened here and it’s not how it happens anywhere, as much as I’m sure we wish it could be the way. You need to bring people along with you not shout at them.
Anyway, enough politics. Glad you finally met Magic and enjoyed the blog meet up. I’ll have to make sure I get to the next one. Easy enough to get a train from Glasgow and be down for the weekend.

I quite like the unknown and jeopardy of not knowing how our results will go and expecting the worst. I’m not saying I’d not want a trophy but I’d hate being a fan of a team like Man City where you just turn up and expect to win every game and every competition. It must be dull.

Human rights abuses should not be in the realm of “politics”, right or left wing.
There are places around the world where terrible things are happening: Palestine, N. Korea, Ukraine, Saudi Arabia too and so many other places…

Comment #57TS has a good point, can you imagine supporting a team like Citeh, expecting to win every game without hardly breaking sweat, how monotonous is that.
Being anxious, worried, apprehensive, but also excited is all part of being a football fan, but supporting the best team in the world must get a bit boring when you are expected to win every week , oh and winning more trophies in the last 15 years than the club has won in it`s entire history must be a right Yawn fest lol.
Will we be ever as good as Citeh? who knows, if we are half as successful as them i would be over the moon, jeez, just give me one trophy, it isn`t much to ask is it?

Comment #58Looks more and more likely that Tosin will be joining us in the summer, it`s a damn good deal for all concerned imo.
A proven PL quality defender on a free is nowt to be sniffed at.
No doubt young Alice will be asking why her club didn`t do the deal for him, well Alice, maybe Tosin is more excited at the thought of playing for the Toon instead of the self entitled brats at Old Trapdoor

Comment #72Apparently Tosin is a city fan, however he is from manchester I have no doubt the lad would have been amazingly impressed after speaking directly to Eddie Howe and what plans they would have for him.
IMO (as apparently he is an intelligent lad by all accounts) he will choose NUFC over the team he grew up despising and not forgetting the project that he would have been advised he would be part of. Tosin is the perfect replacement to Schar by the way and for a free would represent an unbelievable bit of business.

You we’re lucky to get to the Earl of Pitt Street which appears to be a decent place. Used to be that the pubs around that area were generally err local, if you get my drift.
