Newcastle’s Hunt For New Goalkeeper Leads To Georgia International

One of the players Newcastle will be bringing into the club this summer will be a goalkeeper.

And there’s a good article from Sports Witness that the player Newcastle scouts are keen on is 6ft 6ins tall Georgian International Giorgi Mamardashvili, who is just 23 years old and plays for Valencia.

With Martin Dubravka wanting first-team football and Loris Karius wanting to play in Italy for family reasons, Newcastle will need to bring in a new number two this summer.

We say the scouts are keen on Mamardashvili since it seems Eddie Howe would prefer Arsenal’s 26-year-old Aaron Ramsdale who he coached at Bournemouth.

Mark Gillespie will probably stay as the third-choice goalkeeper since he is a home-grown player and helps in that category.

Sports Witness is reporting that Newcastle sent scouts to watch the player in Valencia’s goalless draw against Rayo Vallecano and that’s not the first time this season he’s been watched by Newcastle scouts.

Mamardashvili has played 16 times for Georgia and he is ambitious and wants first-team football: he has played 96 times for Valencia over three seasons..

His ambition could be a problem at Newcastle, since Nick Pope is the solid number one who we have missed this season with his command of the penalty area.

Correspondent Nacho Santis has said this on his X account:

The translations is as follows:

Newcastle saw Mamardashvili’s display against Rayo Vallecano at Mestalla

They are going to sign a goalkeeper and have made a real move for Giorgi, they also like Aaron Ramsdale.

He is not the only ‘che’ player who has been scouted this year.

The fee for the two keepers is about the same if reports are to be believed, with Ramsdale said to be on the market for at least €35M, while Valencia want negotiations to start at €40M for Mamardashvili.

Newcastle need a young goalkeeper who can challenge Nick Pope for the number one spot, and their hands will be forced with Dubravka and Lloris wanting away this summer.

What do you think?

Would Arijanet Muric be a cheaper option from Burnley, just to keep a theme going too.

    “”Muric performance ‘had everything’

It was a performance that had everything. His athleticism helped prevent what would have been a second own goal of the season for Dara O’Shea. Then, he kept his cool to make a fine save when Yoane Wissa was played through one-on-one. As is the modern way with elite goalkeepers, he was never afraid to hold an extremely high line – at one point he was around 40 yards away from his goal, watching on as Burnley attacked.

Ball distribution was on point and standing at 6ft 5 in tall he held a commanding presence within the penalty area, not afraid to, quite literally, put his head where it hurts when on the receiving end of Ivan Toney’s boot as he denied the England striker late on.””

I didn’t write AG off, I have him down as POTS! 🙂

Haven’t written off Barnes either just don’t think that apart from a few flashes he hasn’t come up to expectations and yes I realise he has had an injury., so the jury is still out as far as I am concerned.

And as for Maxi, Jail, yes I am over him you will be glad to hear, he has gone and will not be coming back. No more tears! 🙂

My new fixation is Diallo, he was brilliant last night for around 60 minutes and it will be a pity if he remains on the release list.

Ok, so Man City done us a favor, gives us the outside chance of 5th.
I know I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one, win tonight and Sheffield want to leave the league with a bang it’s possible, not very likely but it’s possible for 5th place.
Would make an interesting Sunday for sure.
Hope Isak is fit, that my only concern about today’s game. Up The Mags!!

Ah, the Magic Roundabout never stops. Reinvent the Euro League idea.
    New York here we come.
No doubt the red scousers and manutility will want to play in China where most of their fans live.

Fifa is to set to establish a working group to look at the impact of playing competitive domestic matches overseas.

A legal settlement agreed between Fifa and match promoter Relevant Sports in the USA has, in the words of Premier League chief executive Richard Masters, “left the door ajar” for league games to be played in different countries.

Whilst the Premier League say they have no plans to do so, despite being the instigators of the infamous ‘39th game’ idea during Richard Scudamore’s time at the helm, La Liga are already planning overseas games for the 2025-26 campaign.

La Liga have revived their plans to play league fixtures overseas after cancelling Barcelona’s league match against Girona in 2019, which was due to be held in Miami.

Fifa had previously been opposed to the idea, feeling it had the potential to take valuable finance away from domestic clubs.

    EGB,
Ahh, I wasn’t saying you wrote off AG but he should serve as a warning to those that have written players off, everyone pretty much has been a success so far under Howe Barnes and Tonali excepted but both for their own different reasons. We’ve seen flashes of HB despite his injuries and I think we’ll see a lot more.

Barnes was the springboard for our fortunes to change and our good run to start. Being 1-3 down to West Ham on 77 minutes only to come back and eventually win 4-3 was mainly down to Barnes. Although he wasn’t an extravagant signing to many , he was a massive upgrade on Maxi. As an example would we see Maxi have the same sort of impact coming on as a 67min sub as what Barnes did in this particular game and one of the best come backs in EPL history?? No chance…

NUFC knew exactly what they were getting when they signed Barnes and for me his inspirational display was the catalyst for where we are right now which is us being so close to Europe league qualification. If we got beat in that West Ham game, we would not be where we’re right now. Barnes signing is a master piece and he will bring so many important goals in an injury free season next season.

And as I said Maxi is gone, I’d liked us to keep him, but I aint fretting over his loss.

But if you want to keep digging up what you think I am thinking then carry on.

Who will be fit tonight to start?

    – Wilson (if fit – Bench he is a top player and a dangerous threat to come on as a sub)

    – Trippier (if fit – Start, I know Tino has done great in KT absence, however I want KT back with his leadership equalities. I know he will be up against Garnacho, but we start Murphy on the RW so he can track back and help KT. He has the pace to do that.)

    – Schar (if fit – Start, it’s a no brainer to start Schar from the outset if he is fit enough. We’ve really missed his ability to ping inch perfect long diagonal balls and also brings the ball out so well, unfortunately Krafth doesn’t have this skill set to his game.)

    – Joelinton (if fit enough – Start, we need his ability and fighting spirit back in our MF, we’re so much better as a team when he is in the pitch. He had to start,)

    – Isak (if fit – STARTS absolute no brainer no questions asked)

Doesn’t really mean anything, as it’s just one stat on its own but Barnes has played 713 minutes in the Premier league this season and has 4 goals and 3 assists. Jo?o Pedro has played 1864 minutes and has 9 goals (5 of which are penalties) and 2 assists.

If he’s fit, for me Tino has to start over Tripps.

Trippier will be rusty and this is a crucial game to take a chance on him being up to speed. He’s had a 5 minute cameo off the bench since his injury I think? Putting him straight back in for a crucial game, when Tino has been in great form seems like a weird decision to make. We have plenty of leaders on the pitch without him for one game; Burn is a great back-up captain, Longstaff and Anderson are always vocal and asking for more from the players around them, likewise Gordon, Murphy and Bruno.

I know Murphy would track back to help with Garnacho, but if we have Murphy contstantly tracking back to help out, then he’s not going to be as effective up the other end. Why make Murphy have to spend the whole game worrying about Grancho and Trippier in a 1 v 1 situation, when we could play Tino and not have our right winger have to worry about that as much?

I love Trippier and he’s an exceptional leader, player and captain, but first game back from injury, pacy winger, Tino in form and a crucial game….nah, stick with Tino for this one.

The team is like to see for tonight:

    ______________Dubravka_______________

    Trippier_____Schar_______Burn_______Hall

    __Bruno_______Longstaff_______Joelinton__

    Murphy__________Isak____________Gordon

The team I think Eddie will go for:

    tonight:

    ______________Dubravka_______________

    Tino_____Krafth_______Burn_______Hall

    __Bruno_______Longstaff_______Anderson_

    Murphy__________Isak____________Gordon

Either team will put in a fantastic performance.

If Miggy needs to come on, put him on the LW and move Gordon over to the right. Miggy destroyed man u from LW in the cup victory and would be up against Casemiro and we know how that would end.

Man u are there for the taking and for once we’re facing a team with worse injuries than us. Will be a cracking game this tonight and fortunately we won’t be playing a team that is hellbent on ruining a game of football with dodgy tactics like Brighton did. They will be a lot more open as they’re at him which should hopefully play into our hands.
