Newcastle’s Hunt For New Goalkeeper Leads To Georgia International

One of the players Newcastle will be bringing into the club this summer will be a goalkeeper.

And there’s a good article from Sports Witness that the player Newcastle scouts are keen on is 6ft 6ins tall Georgian International Giorgi Mamardashvili, who is just 23 years old and plays for Valencia.

With Martin Dubravka wanting first-team football and Loris Karius wanting to play in Italy for family reasons, Newcastle will need to bring in a new number two this summer.

We say the scouts are keen on Mamardashvili since it seems Eddie Howe would prefer Arsenal’s 26-year-old Aaron Ramsdale who he coached at Bournemouth.

Mark Gillespie will probably stay as the third-choice goalkeeper since he is a home-grown player and helps in that category.

Sports Witness is reporting that Newcastle sent scouts to watch the player in Valencia’s goalless draw against Rayo Vallecano and that’s not the first time this season he’s been watched by Newcastle scouts.

Mamardashvili has played 16 times for Georgia and he is ambitious and wants first-team football: he has played 96 times for Valencia over three seasons..

His ambition could be a problem at Newcastle, since Nick Pope is the solid number one who we have missed this season with his command of the penalty area.

Correspondent Nacho Santis has said this on his X account:

The translations is as follows:

Newcastle saw Mamardashvili’s display against Rayo Vallecano at Mestalla

They are going to sign a goalkeeper and have made a real move for Giorgi, they also like Aaron Ramsdale.

He is not the only ‘che’ player who has been scouted this year.

The fee for the two keepers is about the same if reports are to be believed, with Ramsdale said to be on the market for at least €35M, while Valencia want negotiations to start at €40M for Mamardashvili.

Newcastle need a young goalkeeper who can challenge Nick Pope for the number one spot, and their hands will be forced with Dubravka and Lloris wanting away this summer.

What do you think?

Premier league clubs to vote on scrapping var. I’d like to see it gone but keep goal line technology and introduce semi automated off side.

I hope Tino starts over Trippier, there is more variety in our attacks when he is in the team, Tripps has the experience for big games but we are so predictable when he plays, everything has to go through him, even every corner and free kick.
Besides, Gordon`s corner kicks seem to be more of a threat anyway.
Trippier could get tortured tonight, he can`t be up to match fitness, not a chance.
Play Tino tonight please Eddie, oh and by the way, the young lad is a terrific player in his own right.

If VAR does go then we will be back to square one with fans like me accusing referees of being biased towards the greedy 6 when making certain decisions that favour them, while at the same time turning a blind eye to blatant penalties and important decisions that go against us.

Evening mate, i personally would love to see VAR scrapped, but like you say retain goal line technology and interduce semi-automated offside, but unfortunately i can`t see VAR being scrapped mate.

Evening magic. I think the 6 would vote for it to be scrapped 🙂 . Obviously Wolves would too. I guess it depends on the feelings of the others.

Not sure if it’s already been mentioned today but apparently we have been offered Ross Barkley on a free!
The few times I’ve seen him this season he has looked very sharp but I think it’s one position we are well stocked!

Why do you think the 6 would vote for it to be scrapped mate?

Do you not think a lot of VAR officals are already looking after the 6 Davas ?

Should planes be flown manually? Should VAR be scrapped? Should we go back to horse and carriage? Same chance for all to happen.

I understand Wolves frustration but they haven’t thought it through. It’s HUMAN Error that has caused them grief, not a video camera.

So, what to do to reduce these errors? Reduce human intervention not increase it. Soon artificial intelligence will be able to deal with this kind of stuff and make a correct call in miliseconds.

I would love that to be true about Ross Barkley Scott, as that lad has been nothing short of sensational this season mate, and he has always been a very good player.

    Rh,
I have to trust the judgement of the manager when it comes to playing one of his most important players and stalwart of the leagues joint meanest defence over a 19 year old rookie who had looked shaky at times. You need to have faith in the manager or replace him.

You make a very good point, but as Miley is still only a youngster who has tons of time, signing Ross Barkley even short term i believe it would be a great move, and all that premier league experience Barkley brings to the table Scott mate.
