Eddie Howe’s Comments At Press Conference For Final Brentford Game Away

After the disappointment of losing 3-2 at Old Trafford on Wednesday night and Chelsea beating Brighton away, both teams beneath us gained 3 points on Newcastle in the league table.

🙁

We are now 3 points behind Chelsea and level on points with Manchester United in 7th place (with 57 points) but above them on goal difference.

Manchester United are at Brighton on Sunday and Chelsea are home to Bournemouth.

Here are some comments Eddie Howe made about our final game at Brentford on Sunday – 4:00pm KO.

Eddie Howe on Anthony Gordon’s fitness:

“We will wait and see how he is today. I’m not 100% sure as I sit here now exactly how he is. Certainly that tackle left a mark on him.”

On Lewis Hall’s development:

“I think for any player when you come to a new club, it’s natural there’s going to be a settling-in period. He’s done really well to commit and continue to commit and have consistency in his work, even when no doubt he was frustrated that things weren’t happening quicker than he’d wanted. “

“He did really well at Old Trafford and showed a lot of maturity. I’m delighted with where his game is at.”

On Wednesday’s performance at Old Trafford:

“I think we’ve had highlights and had some good performances but it’s summed up by Wednesday where I thought we played OK.”

“The performance generally was good, we created chances and we looked a good team but we weren’t ruthless enough to take the game away from our opponent.”

“For next year we have to get that away form right.”

On Callum Wilson”

“We anticipate he will be fit for Sunday.”

On Sunday’s game at Brentford:

“It’s a big last day for us, there’s no denying that. We go into the game knowing we have to do our part, which is try and win the game.”

“Then we’re in the hands of other clubs. The players are determined to finish on a high.”

Could Hall sneak into Southgate’s plans?

England have a problem at left-back. While not currently fit, Luke Shaw is still hoping to make Gareth Southgate’s squad, with the manager admitting in March that he regards the 28-year-old as “one of the best left-backs in world football”. So who else is in contention to step up or be the backup? Ben Chilwell is injured, Kieran Trippier is ageing but has moonlighted on the left, Tyrick Mitchell is making a case at Crystal Palace, and Joe Gomez is a steady if slightly uninspired choice. Could Newcastle’s Lewis Hall make a late surge? The uncapped teenager has impressed of late in Eddie Howe’s starting XI and scored a brilliant goal at Old Trafford in midweek. Newcastle’s trip to Brentford is Hall’s last opportunity to make his mark before Southgate names his preliminary squad.

Once the final whistle blows …..to board a coach taking them to an airport from where they will take off for Australia. On Wednesday Spurs face Newcastle in an exhibition match in Melbourne. It is being hyped as a “welcome home” fixture for Ange Postecoglou, the London side’s Australian manager, but when players are both physically and mentally exhausted it is also madness……..Footballers may be paid stratospheric salaries but they are also human and their bodies can only withstand so much. Flying first class will undoubtedly help but there are still going to be two very jet-lagged teams on the pitch on Wednesday.

I wouldn’t be overly excited about signing Ramsdale at all.
He is no better than Pope, imo albeit he is only 26 with more time to improve .
I would much prefer Mamardashvilli a way higher celling but not a lot better with his feet than either the other two.

I fear that anyone of any persuasion would be greatly disappointed if they tried to give me a good seeing too, 🙂

As for your last sentence, sorry but the name is not part of my memory bank, means nothing to me.

All the best clubs play with 11 outfielders. I am surprised Eddie is sticking with 10 and Ramsdale.

Massive window and new season coming up. Well it is for Eddie.
I think we will sell one of our stars. Not because we have to but because Eddie wants. Big money will then be used to bring in about 4 top top players.
Eddie has to get us 4th. Anything else will not be viewed kindly by the Saudis.
The Conference League could me a massive distraction for little credit. Playing on Thursdays and Sundays in some dump and we are guaranteed a semi place. The competition only starts there. It’s much lower than the Caribou Cup

Just going off the press like we all do. It’s a done deal there.
Fans quote the press when they like the deal but say it’s not a done deal when they don’t fancy the player

It’s my opinion. Is that not clear? Everything I wrote is an opinion.
I don’t know they will sell a top player. I don’t know they will sign 4 top top players either. But for some reason you pick on the Saudis not being happy with lower than 4th

    Saratoga,
Are you seriously complaining about Darlow going on loan, he’s now back up at a Championship club, not Bournemouth, Palace or Wolves. If we’d kept him you’d be complaining about the standard of keeper we’re keeping.
    ************************
So go on then. Explain it. What was the point of Darlowe going on loan to Hull City.
They never had any money to buy him. What was in it for us. The ten bob we saved on his wages ?

Correct long term he was not good enough for us.
However, in January 2023 what was the point of sending him out on loan.
We had Gillespie on the bench at Wembley.

We got nowt out of his loan to Hull.

When Tuff suggested you ‘need to worry about FB his real moniker is F*****’, whose name you couldn’t get, it’s a cert that F***** is no less than Fenham who’s passed him off by not rewarding his, Tuff’s grovelling.

FB’s a narcissist and so is Fenham so there you go.

On keepers, I’m in agreement with the majority.
Ideally need to be comfortable with the ball at their feet these days, nearly all top teams press from the front now.
I’m very much in the Ortega camp.

Other than now he’s a No. 2, I guess he can be gotten cheap(er), the only plus I see with Ramsdale, is that he’ll be desperate to re-prove himself with another big club after his pretty public humiliation at the hands of Arteta.
It might drive him on to better himself in all departments…

On the other hand though, it could equally have left him with a permanent scar.
A roll of the dice for me, and besides, Pope’s better.

I’ll trust in the club mind, whomever the choice, under this ownership we’ve rarely got one wrong (?)

Ramsdale, noooo… We’re too good for him!
    .
    .

Kidding. He’s a top player, better than their starting keeper. Would definitely not turn my nose to him. Only thing, it’s a shame for him to be on the bench, he should be starting somewhere else, this has stalled his career.

The season may not be a complete loss. If Elliot Anderson or Emil Krafth score against Brentford, NUFC will break the record for the most number of goal scorers in a season.
