Eddie Howe’s Comments At Press Conference For Final Brentford Game Away

After the disappointment of losing 3-2 at Old Trafford on Wednesday night and Chelsea beating Brighton away, both teams beneath us gained 3 points on Newcastle in the league table.

🙁

We are now 3 points behind Chelsea and level on points with Manchester United in 7th place (with 57 points) but above them on goal difference.

Manchester United are at Brighton on Sunday and Chelsea are home to Bournemouth.

Here are some comments Eddie Howe made about our final game at Brentford on Sunday – 4:00pm KO.

Eddie Howe on Anthony Gordon’s fitness:

“We will wait and see how he is today. I’m not 100% sure as I sit here now exactly how he is. Certainly that tackle left a mark on him.”

On Lewis Hall’s development:

“I think for any player when you come to a new club, it’s natural there’s going to be a settling-in period. He’s done really well to commit and continue to commit and have consistency in his work, even when no doubt he was frustrated that things weren’t happening quicker than he’d wanted. “

“He did really well at Old Trafford and showed a lot of maturity. I’m delighted with where his game is at.”

On Wednesday’s performance at Old Trafford:

“I think we’ve had highlights and had some good performances but it’s summed up by Wednesday where I thought we played OK.”

“The performance generally was good, we created chances and we looked a good team but we weren’t ruthless enough to take the game away from our opponent.”

“For next year we have to get that away form right.”

On Callum Wilson”

“We anticipate he will be fit for Sunday.”

On Sunday’s game at Brentford:

“It’s a big last day for us, there’s no denying that. We go into the game knowing we have to do our part, which is try and win the game.”

“Then we’re in the hands of other clubs. The players are determined to finish on a high.”

“it seems many fans are split about being in the Europa conference lge, a competition which basically is no better than the Intertoto cup imo”

disagree strongly the Europa Conference is more the level to the UEFA cup or Cup Winners Cup and would definitely count as a proper trophy.

It is in its arse like the Uefa Cup.

    I’d gladly take it though.

Aston Villa played these teams in the Europa Conference league this season:
    Hibs
    Legia Warsaw
    Zrinjski
    AZ Alkmaar
    Ajax
    Lille
    Olympiakos

and would be playing Fiorentina if they had got to the final.

So Ramsdale is a smaller ( I think? ) younger version of Pope? Surely with Nickson being so good we can get a younger understudy with great feet who can become our keeper over the next season or two, assuming we can’t get Mamard?

Lets see if ramsdale come how he does before writing him off. I didnt know anything about pope as never really pay attention to his play until we signed him and saw how good he was last season. Lets see how they perform for us before writing players off.

Make no mistake if we didnt have wood before and we saw that hattrick against us we would want to sign him for 30mill but ofcourse we knew how shit wood is

There were some big names in the Intertoto up, Valencia, Hamburg, La Caruna, Lens, Wolfsberg,, Ath Biboa, Young Boys, Rangers., pretty much the same standard as the Europa conference.

Intertoto cup was a pre qualifying tournament in preseason like a play off to qualify for proper europe competition. Fair play teams or losing domestic cup finalists usually got in that.

seems that Newcastle only played Lillestrøm in the Intertoto cup before joining the UEFA cup and won the Intertoto cup because they progressed futhest in the UEFA cup. is that really the same as winning the Europa Conference League?

Back then only a few teams from each league got in so the competition was stronger. Now as theres so many teams allowed the standards have dropped. Thats why all best games are usually in latter knockout stages

Still dont get why they got rid of cup winners cup. Was a good way to qualify for a competition.

i guess Newcastle wouldn’t play in the first 2 rounds of the Europa Conference like Villa didn’t so would miss out going to Andorra.
