Multiple Reports That Newcastle Have Agreed Terms With England Goalkeeper

There are multiple reports today that Aaron Ramsdale has agreed to join Newcastle United in the summer.

Ever since Arsenal signed David Raya on loan from Brentford, on loan last summer, Ramsdale’s time has been limited between the posts for the Gunners.

After being the regular Arsenal goalkeeper after signing on from Sheffield United three years ago, he has played only 11 games in Arsenal’s packed schedule this season.

The player cost Arsenal £30M and was previously coached by Eddie Howe for a short period at Bournemouth.

The England goalkeeper (4 full caps) has been heavily linked with a move to St James’ Park this season.

The initial report on this came from  Sky Sports News journalist James Green, who had this to say about the deal while speaking on Highbury Squad:

“I understand and I found out directly from the player’s agent that one of our players is off to Newcastle and a deal has been agreed,”

“It’s my understanding that Aaron Ramsdale has agreed to join Newcastle in the summer.”

“That’s come direct through speaking to somebody I’m very close with who is close with his agent and he says it’s done.”

“I don’t think it will come as a surprise to many Arsenal fans if I’m being honest.”

“I think the writing was on the wall, it was going to happen, he can’t sit there and be a backup goalkeeper he was too good for that.”

“He was always going to go on to pastures new and I saw a few reports, a few other journalists talking about a backup to Raya this week and what goalkeepers might come in.”

“The likes of Jason Steele at Brighton were mentioned and I think he’d actually be a very good number two.”

“The deal (to Newcastle) is happening.”

Ramsdale signed a new contract with the Gunners last summer after earning a place in the PFA Team of the Year for the previous season, but this season has turned everything upside down with the goalkeeper’s ambitions not being met.

Newcastle will need a new number two for next season since Loris Karius wants to move to the Italian League to be closer to his family.

And Martin Dubravka also has itchy feet and the Saudi League have shown interest in acquiring the Slovakian International this summer.

Dubravka’s contract expires next summer so we may even be able to get a transfer fee for him.

The news is that we will pay £15M for Ramsdale and if that is accurate that’s a good deal for Newcastle, especially from Arsenal.

Dubravka has played 163 games for Newcastle since signing for us back in 2018 on a loan deal initially for €500K from Sparta Prague, with an option to sign in the summer for €4.5M  which Newcastle took up.

What’s actually needed to go to the next level is…
Bigger revenues, bigger spend, better squad, better depth.

But hell, just blame the manager if you like, personally wouldn’t consider that particularly astute though…

Spend £400m on Forest, what level do you think that would attain … On a level footing with the ‘big 6’?

    No, not really eh…

It’s not like we’re spending money and they’re standing still, their spending comparable sums or a lot more.
On a far better base squad.
But yeah a new manager can negate all that …

Last thoughts, as I have the place to myself…

How many of the teams above us had a squad like ours two years ago?
And how many of them have we outspent since? … if any, by how much?

    One example…
Chelsea finished 3rd I think the season we were taken over.
We were bottom 3 without a take over.
Since then they have spent £1B compared to our £400m
So what makes people think we should be above them?
Cos we have a better manager?
If that’s the case, why do some want rid???

The only comparable club above us at present is Aston Villa, and their owners had at least a two year start on us, to improve their squad.

Emery’s got Villa 4th, a brilliant achievement but guess what… we did it 12 months earlier!

    mctoon,
Those first hundred matches with 49 wins only bettered by Klopp and Arteta who incidentally didn’t take over rock bottom clubs ‘coached’ by Steve Bruce for two years is a pretty damning statement of excellence. Yet some people think there are better out there. This way of thinking isn’t born from looking at the reality of the situation but from a dislike of his appointment in the first place and an unwillingness to change their mind.

    Disclaimer,
Of course there are better managers out there, you only have to look at Pep and arguably Alonso. I’m talking about realistic targets for where we are right now and at the minute there is no better manager than Eddie H, he’s also got plenty of time to prove he’s the best fit for where we’ll be in the future as well.

    It’s crazy Raj,
You’ve got the Rafa negative football haters now hunting down a man who’s had us score more goals then we’ve ever scored in an EPL season.
It’s revenues and time we need at present, not a new man at the helm.
We’ve got a great one already.

Have you checked pundits and bookies’ predictions?

You should, they get it right more often than the rest of us.

    Wright: 1-1.

    Sutton: 2-2

Bookies: it varies, mostly Newcastle win, 1-3, 2-3.

I’m going with the bookies 🙂

    mctoon,
It’s plain and simple, it’s people who weren’t happy with his appointment in the first place and still want a bigger name despite that person being faced with the same PSR restrictions. When you’ve achieved so much in so little time it’s absolutely baffling why people would want him changed.

When Eddie Howe was appointed I like a lot of others had reservations some did want him at any cost.
But he has exceeded all expectations in my book.
Given where we are now compared to where we started and the injuries we have had this season the club is better placed to achieve much, much, more.
I think some players have made errors in some matches which is not down to the Manager it is down to them.
I look forward to Next season and believe we will advance further under Eddie Howe.

My Eddie’s bingo team may be wrong, given there’s a rumour AG may not have travelled down with the team.

I am on granddaughter duties today, so can’t join Jeff for the final day.

May I add my voice to the support of our young manager. No-one is faultless, but given the spending restraints and injuries he has faced, Eddie has done as well as anyone could have expected.
    Long may he run!

Happy last match day of the season folks.

Given our injury issues this season we’re in a relatively strong position.

I don’t have any strong feelings on qualifying for European competitions, what will be will be and we’ll deal with it.

As previously mentioned, we might not have this by place to comment on our favourite passion for much longer. Let’s use that time wisely, you don’t miss the water until the well runs dry.

If there’s no Gordon today, i think our fate is sealed. Hes the only one who seems to engineering the goals.

Im really really concerned that Brentford are goimg to put in a performance today for the death of Franks father.

I predict no European football next season, we just havebt been good enough 🙁

Even if u look at thr points were on top 5-8 this season is uncharacteristically low compared to last year. If you took our points this season and applied them to last years table wed be 10th.

Whilst I think the managers job is secure for another season, I have wondering about Jason Tindal. Particularly since our defence has been so poor this season. No doubt mainly as a result of injuries and fatigue, but a refresh in the coaching department might also be possible??

Got until 2:30 UK time to make your last mistakes this season.

Next week, as well as formatting the final tables to post on here, I need to think about how we carry Ed’s FPL forward.

I’ll make some proposals next week after performing the promotion / relegation moves.

I saw here on the blog just yesterday
That the renowned poster we all know as Ronway
Said that as we partake in our season’s end quaff
We should give Dr Ed a tremendous send off

An honourable thought, but from what I remember
The blog’s licence runs through to early September
But I guess it could go down at any given time
So I’ll now take my chance to present you this rhyme…
    .

Dr Ed Harrison, legend, captain, leader
A true inspiration and black and white bleeder
For all of your efforts we give great thanks
From all of us bloggers, us dafties and cranks

Your blog’s always been the place to go
For info and banter and the odd in the know
For characters and chancers and some friendly chats
And of course for the shit-fits and infamous spats

And in recent times, although obviously ailing
You’ve somehow managed to keep the good ship sailing
There have been some choppy waters along the way
But by and large we’ve rubbed along okay

    It’s a dysfunctional rabble you’ve brought together
But we’ll each remember this blog forever
And when its closing day sadly comes along
On Discord, your legacy, will long live on

    .

So thanks again, my esteemed friend
I wish you peace and comfort ’til the very end

It was in September that the Harrisons found out that they had already paid for a whole year. Not necessarily the month of renewal. My guess would be that the subscription had run at least 30 days by then, if not more, which would make it less likely to cancel.
