There are multiple reports today that Aaron Ramsdale has agreed to join Newcastle United in the summer.
Ever since Arsenal signed David Raya on loan from Brentford, on loan last summer, Ramsdale’s time has been limited between the posts for the Gunners.
After being the regular Arsenal goalkeeper after signing on from Sheffield United three years ago, he has played only 11 games in Arsenal’s packed schedule this season.
The player cost Arsenal £30M and was previously coached by Eddie Howe for a short period at Bournemouth.
The England goalkeeper (4 full caps) has been heavily linked with a move to St James’ Park this season.
The initial report on this came from Sky Sports News journalist James Green, who had this to say about the deal while speaking on Highbury Squad:
“I understand and I found out directly from the player’s agent that one of our players is off to Newcastle and a deal has been agreed,”
“It’s my understanding that Aaron Ramsdale has agreed to join Newcastle in the summer.”
“That’s come direct through speaking to somebody I’m very close with who is close with his agent and he says it’s done.”
“I don’t think it will come as a surprise to many Arsenal fans if I’m being honest.”
“I think the writing was on the wall, it was going to happen, he can’t sit there and be a backup goalkeeper he was too good for that.”
“He was always going to go on to pastures new and I saw a few reports, a few other journalists talking about a backup to Raya this week and what goalkeepers might come in.”
“The likes of Jason Steele at Brighton were mentioned and I think he’d actually be a very good number two.”
“The deal (to Newcastle) is happening.”
Ramsdale signed a new contract with the Gunners last summer after earning a place in the PFA Team of the Year for the previous season, but this season has turned everything upside down with the goalkeeper’s ambitions not being met.
Newcastle will need a new number two for next season since Loris Karius wants to move to the Italian League to be closer to his family.
And Martin Dubravka also has itchy feet and the Saudi League have shown interest in acquiring the Slovakian International this summer.
Dubravka’s contract expires next summer so we may even be able to get a transfer fee for him.
The news is that we will pay £15M for Ramsdale and if that is accurate that’s a good deal for Newcastle, especially from Arsenal.
Dubravka has played 163 games for Newcastle since signing for us back in 2018 on a loan deal initially for €500K from Sparta Prague, with an option to sign in the summer for €4.5M which Newcastle took up.

Comment #161Lochinvar! Ha ha great story,
I have done the Hull to Rotterdam, it’s the only time we were ever searched on the way out of England, we got an upgrade and a cabin window. And it takes ages to actually get to the sea.
We’ve had a few bad crossings especially sailing back from Spain the Bay of Biscay in October can be very eventful, twice nearing home the boat had to stop for medical emergencies and helicopters land on board to take ill passenger off.

You can do humour but you can do emotions too.
You’ve had some riotous aptly targeted rhymes but this one top the pops.
Anyway all, this could be the last official game here, enjoy.
Like I said, I’ll be sticking around till it shuts.
Come on Brentford! (Do us a favour, we gave you Toney for like twelve bucks)

Comment #163Mctoon, great posts, and my feelings too, how can anyone not understand what a fantastic job EH has done in the circumstances,
Look how Klopp did when he had a few injuries the year we beat them to the CL.
We need to strengthen the team, get rid of a few, too.
Just wait untill we are allowed to spend our riches, if ever.
Surely no one thinks we could have competed at the very top with the squad and injuries we’ve had.

I don’t know where each players at physically, or as to where he might be mentally.
Likewise, I don’t know anything about their personalities, other than what I see on the pitch or in front of a camera.
Does he look in the right frame of mind this week?
How well did he train, Is he carrying a knock?
Which player performed better in the matchday training, tactically?
Who’s he likely to match up against today?
Is he likely to win that individual duel or would it better suit player B?
There’s probably a hundred and one questions going through the managers head.
All more relevant than mine.
In short, I haven’t got a scooby compared to Eddie Howe.
So I’ll trust him on whatever team selection he decides.
There on in for us, and him, it’s more or less down to the players…
I just hope we can perform, and yeah, a European spot again would be great.

Comment #173It is extraordinary though that when someone has themselves admitted they’ve made mistakes, other people don’t think that’s in any way possible and that that someone is completely beyond doing any head scratching over whatsoever because they’ve done very well in the past.
How about someone has done very well 90% of the time. How do you quantify it? So can a person not reasonably say I like EH very much but there are some things that he’s done that I don’t get. That doesn’t seem to be possible on here without being branded a hater, mackem or worse.
Things like putting 2 keepers on the bench instead of Harrison and Sanusi just for the first team experience, even if they didn’t get on, which both keepers would surely never have done either in any case.
Like all the record injuries here and previously at B’mouth. What if this post season inquest finds that actually EH was partially responsible. Rafa had virtually no injuries in 3 years so all this about the training ground possibly being to blame is a bit of a stretch, especially after the 10M + re-development.
Things like playing Burn for 5/6 games straight at LB when he was clearly struggling horribly, without ever changing formation or personnel, which is then magically fixed when Botman got injured and no option but to play Burn at CB and finally give Hall a run. 5 games which could have made all the difference if acted upon earlier. The over loyalty to KT when he was making error after error and still is. Tino and Hall have been absolutely superb whenever called upon and have never let us down.
I am sick that we’ve seemingly thrown away 6th place when so well placed as it would have rescued the season magnificently. So I like EH, the way he conducts himself in the media, the entertaining brand of football we play at home, the vast improvement he’s got in so many previously under performing players.
I think EH is a wonderful coach but I don’t think he is necessarily always the best tactician out there and he does seem to lack a real ruthless streak at times. So yes I must be a hater, mackem or worse.

Comment #180RH, you just see things differently, of course EH is nowhere near perfect, and is still learning, of we can criticise FAIRLY, yes the training ground methods, medical staff, coaches, facilities, will come under scrutiny at the end of the season,
Our team is evolving, growing stronger, it’s the depth of the squad we need to be stronger.
It’s the unjust actually pathetic posts that get put on here, how can some people think we should be higher than we actually are, last season was brilliant, we achieved the unthinkable, now it’s back to reality.
Next season if we don’t achieve Europe this season, we go for fourth, that to me would be progressing.

Comment #184Well, Fury was well and truly put in his place last night, his arrogance during the fight bit him bang in the ass.
Just goes to show how bad the standard the heavyweight division is right now when he can boast an unbeaten record, until last night of course.
Back in the day he would` nt of lasted a coupe of rounds against the likes of Foreman, Frazier and Ali.
Tyson and even Bruno would of knocked him out in a heartbeat.

Comment #189Carltoon I think opinions expressed on subs favourites tactics etc have been fair. No nastiness thrown about. If a young Fergie was our manager he wud get same. It gets a bit fractious here on match day, but by the same token if someone criticises, say, Longstaff for another poor pass or falling over too easily, they get rounded on. That’s crazy. The only loons looking for Eddie’s head are mackems trolling on here and there are probably only 3 of them

Comment #193After last nights fight I have had a re think on Heavy Weight boxing and the career of Tyson Fury.
Not sure it is all it is hyped up to be.
2015 he beat a 39 year old Klitscko on points.
2 1/2 yrs away.
In the 5 years since he came back he has basically had the trilogy with Wilder.
How good was Wilder. I don’t see a lot of great fighters on his CV.
Has now been beaten now by Parker although perhaps past his best.
I think Wilder only took the 1st fight with Fury as he thought it would be an easy pay day against a Fury that had not fought for several yrs. That started the trilogy.

Comment #196Nobody is perfect apart from me Mam, wife and kid. Eddie is nigh on perfect. He has sprinkles of SBR and KK in his approach to management. What is there not to like about Eddie Howe we’re blessed to have him…

Comment #197If Toney and Mbuemo play we might have trouble containing them for 90 minutes. Mbuemo is a strong lad and will be charging and bustling through our defence.
Plus I cannot see any of our players getting the measure of Ivan Toney. Lot of pundits going for a draw.
So hope we win but probably a 2 -2 draw.
