With Pope, Schar, and Joelinton back in the Newcastle team Newcastle made a good start to this game and scored three goals before halftime through Barnes (21 mins), Murphy (36 mins), and Isak, (38 mins).
But Anthony Gordon missed out with an Achilles injury, which is not thought to be serious.
Harvey Barnes headed home a Bruno Guimaraes’ delivery into the net, before local lad Sean Longstaff had a goal disallowed for offside.
Jacob Murphy then easily put Isak’s low cross to the far post past the goalkeeper to make it 2-0 to Newcastle.
Then Newcastle’s top goalscorer for the season, Isak then scored his 21st PL goal, and, interestingly, that’s the first time since the man himself, Shearer, scored 21 in the 2003-2004 season.
We have a budding world-class striker in Isak if we can keep him on board.
But it was not all plain sailing for Newcastle and goals from Janelt (48 mins) and Wissa ( 70 mins) cut the lead to 3-2.
But Guimaraes scored Newcastle’s 4th goal after 77 mins to restore a two-goal lead and Newcastle ran out winners in our final game of a really difficult season – mainly through injuries and bad luck.
If Manchester City can beat Manchester United in next weekend’s FA Cup then we will qualify for the Europa League conference: if not we will have no European football next season.
Chelsea beat Bournemouth at home 2-1 to stay 3 points ahead of us and Manchester United beat Brighton 2-1 at home to finish level on points – 60 – with Newcastle.
It’s the first time we have ever finished above Manchester United in the Premier League and 85 goals is the most we have ever scored in the PL – more firsts for Eddie Howe and Newcastle.
What do you think?

I really want City to win that cup, the Euro experience is important even in the conference*

Comment #5Hall brilliant again. He and Tino are a big reason why DA will be a big loss unfortunately. Can’t believe DA wouldn’t hang around to see what’s only just starting here. How is our project any less exciting and appealing than Manu?
At least I will have some interest in the cup final now. Come on city.

Haven’t seen much of him. But last two games, what a player.
Hope he can defend too 😉 He did show signs.
Anyway, MOM today is our star player Bruno. A complete performance.

Comment #7“Eddie Howe on Bruno Guimaraes waving to NUFC fans at end… “I don’t think it’s a wave goodbye. I think Bruno does that. It can be interpreted that way for those watching. Certainly, from my side, I hope it’s not. He is integral to what we do & I’m desperate to keep him”
Why not just say he is not going anywhere?

Comment #10In my humble opinion our team Newcastle United have done fantastically well when you take everything into consideration with a horrendous injury situation and Tonali’s suspension. With a bit of luck we should finish higher next season
Maybe in first position? I’ve just talked myself into a trip to the bookies for a daft bet – why not eh?

Save your money. Expect more of the same. Some great performances, like today, some not so great.
But, we are competing.
We still need those two crystal palace players.

Comment #18Just a couple of years back this club was struggling to stay in the Premier League while today they are consistently in the hunt to play in Europe. The fans never seem to be happy. It’s too bad because the club is good and looks to be good for the next several years. Maybe keep reminding yourselves that Ashley is gone.

To be honest Cyprus I think it’s worth a tenner of anyone’s cash. In my opinion there’s no doubt that Newcastle Utd can achieve a higher position next season as long as we don’t suffer the same amount of injuries again!
We were 4th top in goals scored (would have been more but for VAR)
Only Man C, Arsenal & Liverpool scored more than us! In Liverpool’s case it was by a single goal.
The world loves a trier so they say – I’ll always give it my best shot!
