Newcastle Finish 7th With Good 4-2 Win – But Now Wait On Europa Conference Qualification

With Pope, Schar, and Joelinton back in the Newcastle team Newcastle made a good start to this game and scored three goals before halftime through Barnes (21 mins), Murphy (36 mins), and Isak, (38 mins).

But Anthony Gordon missed out with an Achilles injury, which is not thought to be serious.

Harvey Barnes headed home a Bruno Guimaraes’ delivery into the net, before local lad Sean Longstaff had a goal disallowed for offside.

Jacob Murphy then easily put Isak’s low cross to the far post past the goalkeeper to make it 2-0 to Newcastle.

Then Newcastle’s top goalscorer for the season, Isak then scored his 21st PL goal, and, interestingly, that’s the first time since the man himself, Shearer, scored 21 in the 2003-2004 season.

We have a budding world-class striker in Isak if we can keep him on board.

But it was not all plain sailing for Newcastle and goals from Janelt (48 mins) and Wissa ( 70 mins) cut the lead to 3-2.

But Guimaraes scored Newcastle’s 4th goal after 77 mins to restore a two-goal lead and Newcastle ran out winners in our final game of a really difficult season – mainly through injuries and bad luck.

If Manchester City can beat Manchester United in next weekend’s FA Cup then we will qualify for the Europa League conference: if not we will have no European football next season.

Chelsea beat Bournemouth at home 2-1 to stay 3 points ahead of us and Manchester United beat Brighton 2-1 at home to finish level on points – 60 – with Newcastle.

It’s the first time we have ever finished above Manchester United in the Premier League and 85 goals is the most we have ever scored in the PL – more firsts for Eddie Howe and Newcastle.

So the season has ended, very little football to talk about. Too early for solid transfer talk and Eddie’s Bingo channel with nothing to do.

Disgraceful, I hear you claim. But, what to do?

    Blog Goal of the Season!

Put your nominations in Eddie’s Bingo along with a video clip of the goal. A timestamp would be nice on longer videos. Yes, you have to work too. If other bloggers agree then please say so here. I will collate entries on both blogs to decide the top three or four entries. Votes will be done manually here and via a poll on Discord to decide on a blog winner. As with Eddie’s Bingo I will try and run this across both blogs. Nominations will close at midnight BST on Sunday.

For example. Dan Burn header v Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final. https://x.com/SkyFootball/status/1901322345865736648

Okay, change of plan for Blog Goal of the Month. Ibizatoon reminded me that last year the club put out a video showing all of the goals scored. I’m hoping they do the same again this year. So it makes sense not to close the competition on Sunday night.

Worth waiting a little longer I think.

Here we go, all of the goals from 2024/25 session. There are some crackers so who are we going to nominate? Goalscorer and goal number please. I’ll close the competition on Wednesday and then organise a poll/vote depending on the platform used. https://youtu.be/noJyYe3wLhQ?si=X42Mf6g0eBkmHAUg
