Newcastle Come Away With Win On Penalties (5-4) Against Spurs At Melbourne

Newcastle came from behind to draw this game 1-1 and then won the penalty shootout 5-4.

This is the side Newcastle started tonight at the Melbourne Cricket Ground against Tottenham in our first pre-season friendly – just 3 days after the Premier League season came to an end.

Tottenham took the lead after 32 minutes through former transfer target James Maddison, and Trippier was replaced by Jacob Murphy after a few more minutes.

It was rustiness for Nick Pope, who made a very sloppy pass out from the back that was intercepted – but he needs games to get back his sharpness.

It wasn’t long before Newcastle were on level terms and it was that man Isak again who scored the goal.

Isak was on there to tap the ball home to make it 1-1, which was the score at halftime.

Callum Wilson came on for Isak at the start of the second half and Joe White came on for Joelinton.

After 50 minutes Harvey Barnes went close with a shot from just outside the penalty box.

And then more changes as Harrison Ashby came on for Miggy Almiron, Alex Murphy for Dan Burn, and Amadou Diallo for Harvey Branes – so it’s all change in this game.

After 64 minutes Australian youngster Garang Kuol came on for Wilson, and Lucas DeBolle came on for Guimaraes.

There were other changes made towards the end by Eddie Howe and Newcastle finished the game with a 1-1 draw against Tottenham – and then we went to penalties.

Newcastle won the shootout 5-4 on penalties not missing a single penalty and Harrison Ashhby ensured the win when he scored with Newcastle’s 5th penalty.

A win is a win.

So, Newcastle have started their far-east tour but a game like this seems pointless from a football viewpoint – although it gives a chance for the youngsters to shine.

We have to think Newcastle must be close to the FFP thresholds for the past 3 years to take this trip to Australia in this financial year, which ends June 30th.

What was the crowd split today? Collinwood is a suburb of Melbourne with obvious Newcastle connections having been named after the illustrious Lord of from our humble city.
Collingwood Aussies rules football club play in Black and white and are known as the magpies.
I suspect we have a significant following in Melbourne.
My sister lives in Melbourne too although not in Collingwood.

Difficult to say but there was a lot of B&W in the crowd and a fair bit of Toon Army singing.

A big thumbs up for the crowd today , over 78k for a nothing game is a cracking turn out.
So , the penalty shoot out wasn`t planned by the sounds of it, add a bit more entertainment for the crowd why don`t ya 🙂

The more i hear about Ashworth the more i cringe, he has turned out to be one of the most disliked and disloyal men in football imo.
Thank god we don`t have his ilk stinking the place out any longer, he would of been more suited to the Ashley era at the club.

Don’t think that game did a lot for our U21s, none of them impressed.

They really need to be slotted into the team consisting of mainly 1st team players.

DA has really shown his true colours especially lately that’s for sure. When he first came to us from Brighton I believed he felt that he couldn’t take the club any further forward than he had and needed a fresh challenge and what better challenge than the NUFC project…

Now I’m unsure if something has happened behind the scenes which has led to DA wanting to look elsewhere and man u have jumped on the chance to secure him. However, it seems that he was definitely tapped up and Omar Berrada engaged in email conversations about DA moving to Man U while they were still employed by NUFC and Man C. This has really damaged DA reputation in the game IMO and has shown to have as much loyalty than a scrap yard dog. IMO he has massively underestimated the move he has made which looks like it was a highly likely illegal approach. We’re so much better off without this kind of individual around our club and I hope the man they finally bring into replace him has the ability to build on what DA started and make it even better as we move forward.

Looking good if Fab Romano is saying Tosin and Kelly are close to joining us…

Tosin for me is an absolutely fantastic prospect and definitely has a good level of intelligence about him. He is a Manchester born and bred lad that’s been living in west London and he has been sold the project of NUFC and looks like we’ve pipped man u spurs and Chelsea to his signature. He is ideal for what we need right now and in a free along with Kelly saving us a combined £60m – £70m in the transfer market so we can put that money towards Sesko and Mamardashvili along with 2 very good up and coming fringe players would be a 10/10 window. Howay NUFC get them in ASAP in the window.

Very shrewd signings if we get Kelly and Tosin together that’s potentially 50 to 60 million saved on fees

In terms of the top 4 race kind of need to be spending roughly 200 million to even stand still but so far we will have in the squad:

Hall 32 million committed from last season

    New additions:

    Kelly free
    Tosin free
    Tonali 55 million

Will be interesting to see who we go for for the rest of the positions and how many we actually sign ?

Wouldn’t be surprised if we just song splash on another Isak style signing 60 million level etc

Freedman has got a bit of a good thing at Palace

He might also want to see how it goes with Glasner who looks more than capable of turning their rough diamonds into gems

I’m sure we will get someone else suitable though

    Fenham

I see you’re still behaving like a child and the more I see of some of your comments, it appears you have emotional problems.

Has it ever occurred to you that social media has many types of participants and they could include potential employers. Trust me when I say that your behaviour suggests immaturity, insecurity and emotional instability – not the sort of traits that employers are looking for. You never know who’s seeing your posts and it’s not beyond the realms of possibility that there may be lots of NUFC supporting employers out there. Fenham, your arrogance and immaturity may not be doing you any favours in the employment market.

Grow up man and try to act your age.

So Freedman may stay out at CP after all according to rumours floating around since 2 days ago. Strange if true as he has now gone through all the hiring process and there were other reports that we’d whittled them down to 2 candidates and he was one and that he was the favourite. (Who was the other if true?)

Whatever happened to the Malidini rumours to take over from DA…He was favourite at one point and had meetings with the hierarchy at NUFC?

Whoever we bring in will have been well interviewed etc. and I’m sure the right choice.

It’s true freedman did bring in some very good players and of course the new manager as well. However, CP will probably always be selling their crown jewels. He would have a lot of autonomy here. Hope Freedman now does stay at CP and not move to you know who.

Reading so many negative comments and thoughts on Garang Kuol since his cameo in Brisbane…

The young lad moved to the other side of the world at such a young age and he cost a minute fee especially in today’s market. The lad has had two loans that were not very well managed and thought out IMO, which has led to the lads confidence to be shot to pieces. People must appreciate and understand that the boy is still a work in progress given his lack of senior experience.

This next loan for him needs to be much better thought out and managed as it’s now crucial for his development and career. Would it be an idea to keep him for the U21’s? Maybe he can get a better level of nurturing which he is badly in need of. There is still hope for the lad yet and I pray he makes it and with us.

    What did people expect?
