No European Competition For Newcastle Next Season

With Manchester United playing well and beating Manchester City 2-1 at Wembley yesterday in the FA Cup Final it ended Newcastle’s last chance of a place in the Europa League Conference – so no European competition next season for Newcastle.

It’s like going back two years ago before Eddie Howe had his first full season at Newcastle and we made the Carabao Cup Final only to lose 2-0 to Manchester United.

It doesn’t look like the win yesterday will save Erik ten Hag’s career at the Red Devils, and he is still expected to be replaced.

It was hard luck on us but with respect, the Red Devils deserved their win yesterday and had an excellent game plan which seemed to work almost to perfection.

Newcastle’s season was brutal with all the extra games and injuries we picked up and we have to think this season has to be one of consolidation and we must learn from last season’s endeavors.

We played 51 games last season and with a win ratio of 45.1%.

The season before last, we played 46 total games with a win ratio of 52.2% – so we expect around the same number of games this season.

We will have less games this season but our season goals surely have to be to win a local Cup win and to again finish in the top four as we did the season before last.

Who Was Newcastle's Player Of The Season 2023-2024?

Chelsea are in talks to appoint Leicester City manager Enzo Maresca as their new Manager.
He’ll cost them £10m plus more for his coaching team.

And ManU think these sort of commercial negotiations don’t apply to them ! Cuckoo land.

    Davas, good read that.
Self funding philosophy springs to mind.

Need to add in that refs and VAR can also nudge a game in favour of the select few should the result not be going the way it was expected to. It’s rare that the select clubs become casualties to results and are unable to maintain or grow the division between them or clubs such as United and maybe Villa to come. The so called handball penalty given to PSG against us a good example. They didn’t win the skirmish, the game but they were positioned to win the place they needed, the war

Similarities with the blatant penalty not given for the dangerous foul on Gordon at Old Trafford. The outcome nudged outcomes away from us and in the end favoured others.

Don’t expect UEFA will do anything to ban Chelsea due to dodgy financial practice selling the hotels. They’ve already paid their dues so are exempt from punishment.

UEFA and the FA seem to be like the Post Office. Back door manipulation of the facts and corporate denial.

It’s the Kings Clothes all over again. “The King was in the all together, the all together….” but they ignore the crowds shouting that he’s got nowt on.

So the merry go round has slowed down. From Sky.

Kieran McKenna is set to stay at Ipswich and sign a new long-term contract after attracting interest from Manchester United, Chelsea and Brighton.

Bun fight now as to who goes where. Wonder if Ratcliffe will bottle it and keep Van Ten to placate the players or make his mark and get rid to placate the fans.

Yankuba Minteh Is preparing to head to Tyneside on the back of an exciting season in Holland.
He has admitted he is unsure what lies ahead in his future as he prepares to return to Newcastle United this summer.

Well I’d put him in the squad. He deserves to be there and with Cup games and options to get on as a sub to protect the likes of Isak and Gordon when we are clearly winning games seems to make sense. No impact on FFP either.

Next season already feels like everything is up for grabs

    Arsenal still mentally vulnerable.
City maybe off the boil knowing Pep is moving in.
    Chelsea very uncertain
    Spurs blow hot and cold.
ManU could be one step forward two steps backwards
Liverpool post Klopp will not be as daunting.

Leaves us with every opportunity to hit the ground running with a fully fit and revitalised squad with Tonali and additions to strengthen the squad.
Message must be get ahead and stay ahead.
No more mister nice guys let’s get arsy when needed, pressurise refs, disrupt attacking breakouts by other clubs. That’s what the winners do after all.

Loch I think the whole club needs to get ruthless, especially the board. Get Eddie decent players and have a better window than last summer or the non event of January.

We went backwards this season and the pressure is now on to win a cup and get to Europe every season.

It would appear that our transfer and purchasing policy is fairly convoluted but either way we need to get cracking.

As others have said, there is a bit of questioning going on about the board, slow progress on certain matters and lack of communication.

    Some would agree, some wouldn’t

But we face into a massive summer for sure.

Paul is right rumors are rumors and no one knows, he mentioned Mama and then said we are after Trafford rumored of course.
He made a good point about Mama that Trafford could work under Pope and learn and become number one.

A lot to look forward to in the coming season. After a season and a half of top 4 form, this season was derailed massively by injuries but we still managed 7th and just missed out on Europe. Apart from Botman and Lascelles, the rest of the squad should be fit again, with the likes of Joel, Barnes and lobby back to match fitness. Add to that, any new signings (who even knows what we have to spend), the progression of Hall, Tino, Anderson and Miley (and possibly Minteh), plus the return of Tonali then, as loch stated above, everything could be up for grabs.

Always great to hear from you mate, I also like the Toon Review and Paul does a very good professional job on the podcast, on James Trafford I was singing his praises on the blog just a few weeks ago mate, I have followed his progress at Burnley for some time and have always been very impreressed by him, he has played for all the England under age teams, and has even been selected in the England provisional squad for the European Championships, he would be a superb backup to Pope mate, I would love us to get young James Trafford mate.

Magic, the thing here is yes Mama is or seems like a quality keeper. But would he like to come and be a number 2 to Pope, where James Trafford probably would as Burnley went down and he would cost less than Mama.
Mama though would be ideal if Pope got injured, but Trafford didn’t look bad at Burnley on games I watched. And of course Chelsea are sniffing around him like Tosin.
Chelsea don’t have a scouting team they just wait to see who we are after.

You make an excellent point mate, the reality is Mama and Pope are two real quality keepers and neither would hang around and be content with being a back up keeper, but young James Trafford would be just perfect as a number two plus he is a great young keeper with youth
On his side and is only going to get better
The fact he has been selected on the England provisional squad tells you all you need to know and how much England really value him mate.

That must happen all the time with free agents, especially the better ones. Just wait until the bar has been set, and up the ante. It’s a concern obviously that it’s Chelsea, big club and so close to Fulham. Oh well, we’ll see, but deals don’t get done for all sorts of reasons, and that must be a very common one.

Ineos potentially going over the 30 per cent investment level in Manchester United could mean them having to play in the Europa Conference League next season because of Nice – owned by Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s company – qualifying for the Europa League.

Yeah, I have actually struggled to see us bettering Pope, Dubravka and Karius, but now I’m starting to think Dubs and Karius simply aren’t quite good enough and we do need to strengthen. Surely not with a top keeper like the Georgian though, who would expect to play, as would Nick Pope. How could you possibly keep both happy? It’s a tricky position to cover.

A lot will depend on how well we sell the club and the project to Tosin, as well as the package we are offering him, but yeah, Chelsea will have plenty to offer themselves. Thiago is moving on also, and possibly Chalaboah, so he’ll know he’ll get the opportunity to play there, just as he would with us, and of course he wouldnt have to uproot his family, assuming there’s a girlfriend or wife, maybe even kids. He’s 26, wealthy, and already in settled in the area. It’ll be tough for us if Chelsea really want him.

On Tosin I’m relaxed. He comes or he doesn’t. He’s in the driving seat as a free agent.
I’ll return to the following theme as the new season draws near:
Eddie has a tendency to overdrawn the lads pre-season. Yes, we beat Villa, but we then lost to City, Liverpool and Brighton. Obviously, much will hinge on the fixture list, but I hope to see some improvement to the season’s starting games. We play an intense press, which I’m in favour of, so the lads need to be fit. It’s a fine line and I’m sure Eddie and the team are looking at it.

I really am struggling to see Man U benefitting from replacing Ten Hag. He’s been there two years and won a league cup and an fa cup, and they, like us, had a rotten run with injuries this term. He has brought in some dubious players though, for big money, and then there’s been Rashford and Sancho etc, even so, surely he gets another year, while they sort themselves out in other areas. Silly sacking managers, as if that will suddenly fix everything.

It’s necessary to have a compact shape so teams can’t just play through you, and great to have an intense and collective press, but it’s tough physically to constantly press high. Ideally I suppose you’d have periods in games where you’d press high, mid pitch and also deep, but I guess that capacity to transition is not so easy to drill into a side. It’s important for someone to lead the press, and for the whole side to immediately follow.

What happened to world class players etc. Nearly 4 yrs in and we’re still shopping at aldi ffs.5 Yr plan my arse, any person can see you don’t dominate the prem by signing cast offs and second rate English players, howe can’t attract top players

Been linked with the likes of solanke trafford mings kalvin philips ect are poor players.

We need world class players in that upgrade the team in every department

Eddie and his brexit fc approach, constant overpriced, over-rated, injury prone English players. I am sick to the back teeth of Eddie Howe and Andy Howe who should be nowhere near our scouting department. How do we get Andy Howe out of this club? Seriously?

We need to bring in olise to sort out our bang average to none existent almiron and murphy “attack”. they simply do not cut it. get rid of almiron.

Longstaff to be immediately benched, and upgraded and flat out replaced. sick of the sight of him.

Dubravka to be sold for a million quid, he’s past it and not good enough.

Gillespie too. too many goalkeepers. get mamashaviaka or what ever his name is.

Wilson to be sold and sesko brought in.

Deadwood nothing players like richie, dummet, hendrick, fraser and the likes of chamionship trash we still have lingering about to be sold or just removed from the club.

We need to be rutless but soft eddie will insist on getting rubbing players and hanging on to the likes of dummet ect.

Get howe out and get an elite manager in.

Apparently if Ineos increase their ownership share of ManU they would be disqualified from the Europa League as they own Nice and that would be in breach of UEFA rules.

As Nice finished 5th in their League and ManU 8th in their League then it’s the lowest place team that is disqualified.

Except…Ratcliffe says in effect that it’s not a problem and one that probably arrangements can be made to overcome it, so nothing to see here.

Full on views but the key point is there.
To meet the expectations of the PIF and our owners being No 1 is all.

This season and last season are somehow the wrong way round but next season there is no hiding place. Top 4, a Cup success and a squad fit for purpose are the minimum in the business plan. Especially if new revenues and SJP expansion are to happen

There’s a good few names that need to move on and some new young guns needed.

Eddie will have to get tough. He has no option.
