It is not a surprise, but after being signed less than 18 months ago by Newcastle, Anthony Gordon is our blog’s Player of the Season for 2023/24.
Under Eddie Howe’s guidance, Gordon has improved in leaps and bounds and it says something for Howe’s coaching ability that the (Liverpool lad born) 23 year-old – has made so much raid progress in such a short time.
So there you have it, Gordon looks to be a regular for England (and Newcastle) in the years ahead given his excellent form for England since his debut.
Gordon is our 17th player of the season with 49% of the vote.

Comment #121Not sure if this has already been posted, lots of their fans seem to be skimming over the fact where Standard Chartered had already been found guilty, admitted and fined for breaking International Financial Sanctions relating to Iran from 2012 – 2019, they got fined £1.33bn!… They’ve sponsored liverpool since 2010….. Can’t make it up, Liverpool funded by terrorism!…. Yet NUFC are in the bloody money and human right racket?!?!

Hopefully a day will arrive when all the football authorities are transparent and non of this secretive shady dealing.
Thought that initiative by that minister was going to sort it but alas nothing now done because supposedly the election is looming.
Football does not need to be secretive – it’s not a spy organisation FFS.

Comment #129You know how Kets was signed to Anorthosis Famagusta, after which he had a great career in Greece, even the PL?
A couple dudes from that team’s board of directors went to Georgia. They’re football nuts but have no professional qualifications.
They asked around, random people, “who’s your country’s best player?” They consistently got one answer: Ketspaia.
So they approached him, hired him. Rest is history as they say.*
*Kets, I was told this from the horse’s mouth, if you’re still with the blog. So you can confirm or deny 🙂
What’s my point? Sometimes qualifications, degrees etc aren’t necessary if you can use your brains and think of simple solutions.
Try this approach Nick! (Is that his name?) Cut out the middleman! 🙂

Comment #130Charlie makes a canny point about Woodman.
A tall lad but he still looked like an U16 player in an adult league.
World cup winner at under 20 level.
What is it. Did he just not continue with his physical development as others did.
In fairness to him though he wanted to play football. Went out and did that when many are happy to be no 2 or even 3.
Now played 80 odd games for Preston to add to 80 odd for a previous club.
Swansea ?

Comment #131Me – not sure if Man City proposal taking Premiership to court is good idea if they win
Yes we will have loads of money through sponsorship but will make the league more those who have an have not.
I would like to see them blocking third parties like hedge funds at Man Utd being involved
But my biggest they should ban is betting adverts before during and after games as I thought there was a time threshold

Comment #132If Man City win that case then is it the end of FFP rules ?
Would that be good or bad.
What does european law say on it.
Is it in line with English/UK law.
Eufa might have something to say if English Prem teams are allowed to spend without restriction.
Like. No Champions League.

Comment #136If you own a commercial business why would you allow your competitors to restrict how you act. Its like Asda and Tesco’s telling Morrison’s they have enough shops. Zero difference. Could spell the end of the Premier League as we know it. Corrupt fcukers.
Its a load of shite and will shortly be threw out as anti competition. No other sector has such rules. Even if those businesses go bust.

Comment #137Saratoga, nope FFP would still be firmly in play, and unless changes come in the near future, would remain as is….. If a court rules in Cities favour and the Associated Sponsorship rules are found as non-competitive and binned, then we could artificially inflate our sponsorship revenues and income through Saudi / PIF sponsors to navigate around FFP.

Comment #138And as Regan said last night.
The Discorders who rarely post on here and happily tip up for Ed’s blog meet up should hang their heads a touch.
The same folk would have passed the picket line in the 70s and 80s. No stomach for a fight and no sense of loyalty to King Ed.
Done this place a disservice has Discord and its supporters. Sad stuff during King Eds toughest final battle.
We all stand together on the Blog. Respect to the loyal bloggers.

Comment #139The twat from limerick couldn’t and would NEVER EVER take the piss out of our forces, the UK, the late Queen to my face or any of our faces for that matter as the coward hasn’t got it in it to do such a thing. Just on here!!
What is the most sickening is the tw@t can go unchecked on here with it’s many many sky digs at what most of us stand for and believe in without anyone checking it and firmly putting it in it’s place which IMO makes the idiot believe it’s fair game what it’s doing and probably loving it, more should step up and get this idiot told, never mind just ignoring the inbred to keep the so called peace.

No other sector has such rules – Uefa does.
Asda and Tesco compete with each other. They don’t play against each other.
To their mutual benefit.
All clubs need each other. The majority of the clubs, Brentford, Fulham etc, they will say we need at least to be able to compete. Otherwise what’s the point. Hence rules. Whether they are legal or not we will see in due course.
If it turns into a free for all. Well watch out. It’ll be nutty LIV Golf type sums.
400M for a half decent player.

Comment #145Fenham, weirdly on that topic, I worked with a lad from Leeds around 2013/14 in South Korea, ex-squaddie, scaffolder superintendent on the contractors side at the time, he was as thick as mince, loved to brag about the crap he did in Afghanistan and Iraq, anyways somehow on-site a convo started about the royals, blind-patriotism and the forces, I know we’ve bumped heads on those topics many moons ago, and I just told him how I see it and what my thoughts are on royals and the modern day forces, didn’t beat around the bush, anyways this guy flipped his lid, shouting, screaming, foaming at the mouth, eyes red like the devils johnson, hard hat had gone the journey, but at the end he never laid a finger on me, just all bark and no bite, a shadow of the guy who’d bragged openly about mowing a family down with a machine gun in Afghanistan, after that he never talked to me again and when the client finally left the yard the big girls blowse blocked me on LinkedIn and Facebook, but left me a parting message in my LinkedIn inbox, can’t remember what it was fully but it was a half-hearted threat, something along the lines of “You better never come and work in Iraq, I know lads who are supposed to be looking after you and I’ll tell them to turn a blind eye and leave you fend for yourself”…… Anyways, moral of the story, I guess its a good job I’m not that desperate to have to go and earn relatively crap money in Iraq, but things kind of came full circle as not long after COVID the client I’m working for now was looking for a HSE Supervisor to be based in a yard in Namibia overseeing the re-outfitting of an accommodation barge, and who’s CV pops up? Wee squaddie boy, anyways, that CV went straight into the trash pile bless him and last I’d heard through a mutual work ‘friend’ he’d got himself into some bother and arrested in Thailand.
There was also an ex-squaddie on this current project working again through the contractors side (SS7) on system completions, he lasted about 6 months and then was sacked for beating up a local girl who wouldn’t take his money to do the dirty, obviously a classy guy.
Really, come to think of it, any dealings I’ve had either personally or professionally, with ex-military guys, I’d include yanks in that, haven’t really changed my opinion in the slightest, they all seem to have a screw loose and seem to think they can blag their way through life by being aggressive and the loudest in the room.
Anyways, just thought that would tickle you.

Comment #147Flurz, all your junior army boys were DESPISED in Harrogate. The locals hated them. One guy picked on my accent in nightclub and a few of us had a dust up later. He wasn’t even tough, and certainly wasn’t big. Another dumb army prik who hated the Irish because of the RA. I couldn’t make a bomb of I was paid. The little bully got stood up to by an Irish student! Pints bought for me by the lads the next day .
Grounds? Yes, been to loads.
Name a few and I’ll tell you hand on heart if I was there.

Comment #152No Flurz, they used to come in to Harrogate, hand on heart. They always stood out because of the haircuts and people hated them. They weren’t full army. Cadets?
I’m not trying to make anything up. I don’t need to. They were always spoiling for trouble, especially with guys girls.
Turns out one of the guys I hung around with in Harrogate was ex army ( you see, I don’t always hate army guys) or was in the army for a while but I think he left after a short period.
Anyway, he got friendly with the cadets (?) , and thankfully everything calmed down and they got to know us as “the hotel guys” because we all worked in a hotel. The guys I worked with were a bit loopers anyway and well able to get in and out of trouble. Overall brilliant memories of Yorkshire, and Croydon too.
Possibly the best years of my life. That’s partly why I mock Fenham when he thinks I’m anti British. Absolute nonsense, I’m very partial to you lot and hope to get over to London very soon. Been way too long.

Comment #153And as I said I put my condolences on here when the Queen died. She came to Cork ( in Munster!) And went down a treat. I think Charlie is grand too, and cares about the environment etc. I don’t buy all the pomp and shite, but neither do any of my English mates. But I don’t have anything against the queen, Charles etc
Wife doesn’t like the fella who left the family but I reckon she’s just doesn’t like his American wife because she’s hot 🙂

Comment #154As for grounds I’ve been to, I used to be in the London nufc Supporters Club so got around a pile of places. Wouldn’t be able to now. It was far cheaper then. My Forest mate spends a pile on trains to watch them. But feel free to name a ground, genuinely, and I’ll tell you honestly if I was there. Same goes to anyone else who might bizarrely think I’m not a Newcastle fan. One ground I haven’t been to , Liverpool. And I dont think I’ve been to Arsenal either!

What utter tosh, loyalty to a blog, picket lines, hang your heads in shame? Get a grip man, it’s a/was a footballing forum not a bloody colliery, steelworks or your football team. The people who should be hanging their heads in shame are those absolutely trashing the place on a regular basis.
