Newcastle Draw Nottingham Forest Away In Round Two Of The Carabao Cup

Newcastle United have drawn Nottingham Forest in the second round of the Carabao Cup. It will be a quick reunion for local boy Elliot Anderson, who joined Forest earlier this summer. The match will take place the final week of this month.

This is a difficult matchup against a now-established Premier League side. Forest have two former Magpies in tow with Chris Wood also on board. The former striker bagged a hat trick at St. James’ Park last season. Anderson has been extremely impressive this preseason and may have done enough to force his way into Nuno Espirito Santo’s starting eleven.

The Magpies have done very well in this competition under Eddie Howe, reaching the final in a losing effort against Manchester United two seasons ago. Last season, it was a heartbreak exit on penalties in the quarterfinals against Chelsea.

With no European competition this time around, the cups are a likely focal point for Howe and crew. Silverware would be a tremendous accomplishment and soften the blow of no European nights.

    Oops missed the bus!

So I wonder how Elliott Anderson is feeling getting an early chance of playing against the team he loves! I’m afraid/hope he’ll be disappointed but Forest away is not by any means an easy game!

PL teams in EFL cup south (x12)

    AFC Bournemouth
    Arsenal
    Aston Villa
    Brentford
    Brighton & Hove Albion
    Chelsea
    Crystal Palace
    Fulham
    Ipswich Town
    Southampton
    Tottenham Hotspur
    West Ham United

    EFL north (x8)
    Everton
    Leicester City
    Liverpool
    Manchester City
    Manchester United
    Newcastle United
    Nottingham Forest
    Wolverhampton Wanderers

The most northern clubs playing in the southern half of the competition are Norwich, Peterborough and Birmingham City. But curiously West Brom and Leicester are in the ‘north’.

Nothing we really don’t know from Louise Taylor, but ‘interesting’ reading the long and plentiful comments makes me realise there is no predicting what will happen. Trying to will only add to the list of long and plentiful comments.

Interesting that she claims plans had been made for a medical in Germany for Gordon in advance of a possible move to Liverpool. I think things were much more advanced than some think.

    A bard and a poet,
    Well who would’ve known it,
    I don’t think I’ve met ya before.

    I’ll challenge ya quill,
    And give you ya fill,
    Linguistically wiping the floor.

    Don’t worry my friend,
It’s the start not the end,
I got rhymes upon rhymes to be sure.

    I’ll leave ya with this,
    A grammatical dis,
    Yorra lexical two penny hoor.

    (all in jest marra)

It wouldn’t surprise me in the least if Gordon had gone to Liverpool. They would have taken him, he would have been happy to go and Newcastle needed money. Seems obvious. At the end of the day it was avoided, but only just I’d suggest

In the interview Eddie Howe did with Malaysian TV, he suggested they only have a small group of potential transfers for each position.
