Newcastle United have drawn Nottingham Forest in the second round of the Carabao Cup. It will be a quick reunion for local boy Elliot Anderson, who joined Forest earlier this summer. The match will take place the final week of this month.

This is a difficult matchup against a now-established Premier League side. Forest have two former Magpies in tow with Chris Wood also on board. The former striker bagged a hat trick at St. James’ Park last season. Anderson has been extremely impressive this preseason and may have done enough to force his way into Nuno Espirito Santo’s starting eleven.
The Magpies have done very well in this competition under Eddie Howe, reaching the final in a losing effort against Manchester United two seasons ago. Last season, it was a heartbreak exit on penalties in the quarterfinals against Chelsea.
With no European competition this time around, the cups are a likely focal point for Howe and crew. Silverware would be a tremendous accomplishment and soften the blow of no European nights.

Comment #401Iwobi was so poor for Fulham who had several great chances on the break but just didn’t do the basics

Comment #404Cash is not an issue for us as it doesn’t affect PSR. So surely to clinch a deal at a price we’re happy with we should front load the cash payment. Why are we trying to structure the payment over a longer time period. It’s what cash strapped clubs do.

Comment #405Right now, without further additions. I’d say sixth. With two quality additions, top four……..fourth.
We’ll have the advantage of no European competition to contend with, but the usual suspects will all be formidable, plus West Ham and Brighton this term I expect.
Good league. No doubt about it.
