Newcastle United have drawn Nottingham Forest in the second round of the Carabao Cup. It will be a quick reunion for local boy Elliot Anderson, who joined Forest earlier this summer. The match will take place the final week of this month.

This is a difficult matchup against a now-established Premier League side. Forest have two former Magpies in tow with Chris Wood also on board. The former striker bagged a hat trick at St. James’ Park last season. Anderson has been extremely impressive this preseason and may have done enough to force his way into Nuno Espirito Santo’s starting eleven.
The Magpies have done very well in this competition under Eddie Howe, reaching the final in a losing effort against Manchester United two seasons ago. Last season, it was a heartbreak exit on penalties in the quarterfinals against Chelsea.
With no European competition this time around, the cups are a likely focal point for Howe and crew. Silverware would be a tremendous accomplishment and soften the blow of no European nights.

Comment #45With the limitations on spending, I don’t believe the club are able to carry out their general transfer plan of 2x first team, 2x squad, 2x development players. With the added limitation of not being to offer Champions league games to any possible high profile names and the 50/50 nature of reaching next seasons tournament, the club is possibly not the great attraction we had hoped.
It may be more prudent to concentrate on a couple more players to develop over the next season and hope that finances allow for a more concerted push in the transfer market next year, when we have some kind of European games also.

Comment #46Has there ever been a bigger mug to post on here than this pathetic troll?
Proper inbred freak has tried to derail this blog for quite sometime now. Still didn’t let up even after the founder of this blog sadly and tragically passed. What a pathetic specimen it is. A creature with absolutely zero shame and integrity… Interesting to see Lesh saying ciao to the trolls Italian alt trequartista10 not long ago and then this morning Munster saying “hello Prudhoe“ to the trolls other alt. The troll has 2 followers on here and they’re al as bad as each other with their trolling. Sad life choices trolling a football blog for thrills and kicks 😳

We either buy him this week or pull out and move onto other targets.
If we buy him SJP will be rocking on Saturday.
If we don’t I think uncertainty will be in the air on Saturday, as in what’s going on, why no big signings.
The season shouldn’t start until the window closes.

Newcastle United have announced that Sandro Tonali will return to selection on August 28, following the conclusion of his ten-month ban.
#NUFC have received formal confirmation from the Italian Federation that the player’s sporting sanction will run up to and including Tuesday, August 27.
The Magpies will travel to Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup second round during the week commencing August 26 (fixture date and time TBC), before hosting Spurs on Sept 1.

Comment #57Guehi is stalling other deals down to knowing how much money we’ll have left.
So we really need to get it done ASAP or move on so we don’t leave everything last minute.
Still think we’ll be satisfied when the window shuts though.
Young striker, tick.
Right center half, obviously trying very hard to put a massive tick to this one.
Right winger, think that gets ticked when the center half is done.
Then also we added Kelly to that.
That’d be a good window and address the areas we needed to.

Comment #62I think the Guehi deal will still happen this week, it’s not in Palace’s best interests to scupper his chance to sign for us and be left with a player who will most definitely have his head drop and his contract running down and therefore will be worth less. Palace took £45m from Bayern for Olise who was arguably their best player. £60m + add ons should be the going rate for Guehi and that’s the figure we will sign him for. He will be a HUGE signing for us. It will transform our back line massively. Howay get it over the line PM.

Comment #65It looks like Palace & Newcastle have moved beyond the shadow boxing now in the negotiations, we have invested a lot of time and effort in trying to persuade Palace to accept our latest offer, i would be absolutely astounded if Palace and Newcastle don`t reach a successful conclusion in the coming days.

Comment #80What’s surprising about that Guardian prediction of 8th is it’s an average prediction of their journos, and it’s certain some of them had us up around 5th, possibly 4th – so who put us in 10th/11th?
I think Guehi gets done – feel sure we would have walked away at this point if it wasn’t going to happen. Shame it can’t be before the season starts but I’m fairly sure we’re gonna see a Villa style demolition on Saturday, signings or not.
Skybet offering 9/4 for us to get top four this season – I’ve made a fair wedge betting on us since Howe came in. £50 on 8-1 top four season before last, don’t mind it. Less said about the £50 on us winning the league last year the better. I’ve also won a fair amount off my London pals (Arsenal, West Ham and Liverpool) because they still cannot shake their condescension reflex about Newcastle. They’ve all stopped accepting my bets this year though!
All of that to say, 9/4 from Skybet is decent odds – no Europe, (hopefully) fewer injuries, Tonali and Barnes like new signings with (again, hopefully) one or two stellar additions. If we get Guehi’s pace in our backline it transforms us.
We’ve all seen what happens when Howe gets this team on a winning run, we become like a runaway train. It seems like pundits and casual football fans weren’t able to attribute last season’s results to our catastrophic injury list, almost certainly because of an inbuilt bias (it’s deeply established down here), and are eagerly underestimating us this year because of it.
It’s going to bite them on the a*se – again.
