Newcastle Draw Nottingham Forest Away In Round Two Of The Carabao Cup

Newcastle United have drawn Nottingham Forest in the second round of the Carabao Cup. It will be a quick reunion for local boy Elliot Anderson, who joined Forest earlier this summer. The match will take place the final week of this month.

This is a difficult matchup against a now-established Premier League side. Forest have two former Magpies in tow with Chris Wood also on board. The former striker bagged a hat trick at St. James’ Park last season. Anderson has been extremely impressive this preseason and may have done enough to force his way into Nuno Espirito Santo’s starting eleven.

The Magpies have done very well in this competition under Eddie Howe, reaching the final in a losing effort against Manchester United two seasons ago. Last season, it was a heartbreak exit on penalties in the quarterfinals against Chelsea.

With no European competition this time around, the cups are a likely focal point for Howe and crew. Silverware would be a tremendous accomplishment and soften the blow of no European nights.

Dies it not occur to you that the club might still be nervous about spending when it’s still recovering from the June PSR breach scare?

It’s clear that we need to get some players off the payroll to ease the wage bill and where possible bring some money in.

Frustrating it is – especially when we see the likes of Brighton spending well – but that’s life.

not sure you can say you can say we’ve had a good window or a bad window. till it’s closed.
i agree it’s been slow and wish we had our targets in now , but a bad window at the moment is a bit of a stretch of the facts,

It’s interesting that the one who appears to be obsessed with a troll who seemingly uses numerous alts is one who’s been banned umpteen times yet has popped using numerous alts. Might the troll be Fenhsm – another narcissist?

It’s safe to say your judgement on who other posters are is way off the chart considering you went at Jane for years and years claiming it was Jib.

So I wouldn’t take what you say very serious

It has always been about buying the right players to fit in which isn’t easy.

I think some fans would rather us just go and spend money on whoever just to say we’ve signed someone. I’d rather it be the right ones

imo some pressure on Paul Mitchell to deliver in this window, he comes with a top notch CV so its vital that reputation is not tarnished by failing to deliver what would / could be a very high profile transfer.
No doubt the deal is a tricky one, but with so much of it now being reported 3 bids etc, then its vital that we succeed, or come out making it clear the rationale for NOT following through on it.
Really need 2 first XI players in to support the group already here.
and please lets remove some of those who will not form any major part moving forwards in the next few years – Targett, Lewis, Hayden, Fraser etc

Anyone who isn’t monitoring what other clubs are doing is probably firmly in the Ostrich Club.

As for Poch, decent manager and wud have been fancied by most on here before Eddie, when we were originally looking.

Anything else is just being wise after the event

I’m an ostrich then because I’ve got no interest in other clubs or who they buy (other than a mild curiosity). I rarely watch other teams.

Even if I was a bit interested, I don’t know enough about these players, how they might do, or how they’d fit in to their team or the manager’s philosophy so it doesn’t bother me.
I’m just not that interested in other teams.

So some punters are predicting a low finish as low as eight for us!

    Well it’s a 20 team league and I don’t feel we’ll be getting a lot of defeats!

I follow what’s going as you can’t miss it when you’re on social media but it creates no reaction from me at all.

I’ve never in my life thought to myself shit! Can’t believe they’ve signed him we better worry or be concerned.

Doubt anyone at the club thinks that way either. I believe it’s always about what we do as a team not what anyone else does.

I couldn’t care less who Brighton signed, not one player they have signed, which makes it into our starting 11, same as Man U signings Spurs , WestHam as so on .
Good squad players , but don’t improve our starting 11 .
Savio, I would have liked but unproven in the Premier league at the moment, so I will wait and see before I start moaning about that

I’m like Davas, haven’t got a clue who all these other players are, I may have known every player In league, a long time ago but now I’m just focussing on my team.
I did hear that Chelsea have spent 2 billion on players in the time the American owners have been there. Who are they all, where are they going to play, how they getting away with it.
I’m hoping they’re investigating them, and they get hoyed out the PL

Just a reminder – I’m taking entries for our annual prediction game.
Most of you have played before but for those that haven’t most of us have a go at predicting how we’ll do this season and at the end of the season we have a look to see who was the nearest – no prize but the kudos of being the Blog/Discord prediction King or Queen.
So this year I want your predictions for:-
    Final League Position
    Final number of Points
    Goals Scored (in the Premiership)
    League Cup round we reach (Entry at 2, 5 = QF, 6 = SF, 7 = F)
    FA Cup round we reach (Entry at 3, 6 = QF, 7 = SF, 8 = F)
    Blog Player of the Season
Top Goal Scorer (League and Cups)
Number of Goals for TGS (League and Cups)

To make it easy for me to find could you put your predictions here:

It’s not necessarily who team signs versus whether they wud make it onto our team. It’s proportionally how they improve and a mark of their ambition versus ours, or others. That new winger at Brighton is a very tidy player.

I thought he quiet first half, but stepped up in the second half when boro were by far the better team, was a real threat for Boro with his pace. on another day could have had a couple of goals. just lacking any real end product but hopefully that come with game time.
