Newcastle United have drawn Nottingham Forest in the second round of the Carabao Cup. It will be a quick reunion for local boy Elliot Anderson, who joined Forest earlier this summer. The match will take place the final week of this month.

This is a difficult matchup against a now-established Premier League side. Forest have two former Magpies in tow with Chris Wood also on board. The former striker bagged a hat trick at St. James’ Park last season. Anderson has been extremely impressive this preseason and may have done enough to force his way into Nuno Espirito Santo’s starting eleven.
The Magpies have done very well in this competition under Eddie Howe, reaching the final in a losing effort against Manchester United two seasons ago. Last season, it was a heartbreak exit on penalties in the quarterfinals against Chelsea.
With no European competition this time around, the cups are a likely focal point for Howe and crew. Silverware would be a tremendous accomplishment and soften the blow of no European nights.

Comment #161I respectfully disagree. It’s very important to be aware what your competitors are doing unless you have none.
Players, coaching, tactics etc all need to be countered or bettered. Even top competitors, like say City, pay the price when they disregard what the others are doing.
You could fall behind and wouldn’t even know it until it’s too late.
Now, regarding how much we know about these new players other teams are buying, I don’t know anything about them either. In fact I know nothing really about the Palace lad we’re after, tbh. The 60 mil tag tells me he must be like Virgil!
The price tag is an indication. And we haven’t bought from the top shelf yet have we? I get the reason but boy it’s a bummer, richest club and all that.
We’re still gonna win the league mind.

Comment #167After hearing second or third hand what some of these part time You Tubers are moaning about and constantly criticising the club, how refreshing to listen to Caulkin on Pod of the Tyne, this is not Luke Edwards or even Craig Hope, this guy Sat for hours with Amanda Staveley last week and counts her as a personal friend. There was no mention of a medical booked for Gordon or any inquisition over the medical staff. He talked about tbc

I never mentioned Poch but you couldn’t resist trying to stir it by saying ”fancy people wanting Poch over Howe”. You make it sound like people were comparing someone like Bruce to Howe. If it hadn’t worked out with Howe I don’t think Poch would have been a bad shout at all.

The stadium and said he couldn’t disclose what he knows only that whatever it is they do it is essential they get it right. Basically in a nutshell don’t pay any attention to what the Loaded boys and their panel of ‘experts’ say, anything coming from him is worth listening to.

Comment #184After a lovely day at Yorkshire Wildlife Park I return to the blog. I haven’t been bothered by any transfers made by our rivals, as none of the players would make our first eleven. Solanke is not Isak. Everyone is entitled to their opinions. I follow other clubs’ dealings to some extent, but not in great detail. The Hammers like Brighton have bought many new faces in. It might take months for them to gel.

Comment #185I’m in Bishop now. At my mum’s ahead of Toon match on Saturday. They lent a few players to Manu post Munich and when Bishop were about to become bankrupt over a player injury that wasn’t insured, Fergie sent a team up to play a fund raising friendly to help them out. Amateur team of the 50’s.

Comment #186I think Brighton are about to pop their cherry very soon. Season after season they are improving their squad. Their profits are way higher than our so can afford to spend more on players. They reinvest wisely and must make £100m a season on selling players. Not sure it’s sustainable over the long term as you need to keep players for more than 3 years, but they will be competing with us this season. Our transfer sales have been virtually non existent up until this summer. Will take a few years for the production Line to give us saleable assets.

Comment #191It is quality over quantity, isn’t it?
Only signings that improve us, so you can go out and spend sixty million plus quid on the right player, in the right position at the right time.
It’s important for us going forward though, that we do keep ourselves in the position of only needing to replace two or three each summer transfer window.

Comment #193Yeah, Brighton approach it well. I also don’t see much wrong with the way Chelsea go about it.
Buy lots of young talent, loan them out, keep the cream and sell the rest for almost pure profit and so creating plenty of PSR wriggle room to enhance the first team, which is perhaps where they have stumbled most recently, but that could change, and probably will.
Gotta play by the rules though.

Comment #195Parish now wants £65m for Guehi so his concession is that he’s come down from his pie in the sky £70m figure, after starting at £60m.
We turned up with £5Om then £55m. Guess £60m with add-ons does the deal.
Lucky for Parish that Amanda’s out of the room otherwise he’d be getting £40m tops.

Or in my case.
I am just a poor boy
Though my story’s seldom told

And disregards the rest
