Here is Eddie Howe’s first team selection of the new campaign as the Magpies host Southampton at St. James’ Park. As expected, he didn’t spring any surprises except that Bruno Guimaraes captains the team as he did once in preseason.

It’s a strong bench with plenty of attacking options in Joe Willock, Harvey Barnes, Miguel Almiron, and William Osula. Martin Dubravka remains the number two for the time being.

This is the team Russell Martin has named for the Saints with local man Adam Armstrong getting the call.

Newcastle’s aim is to start the season with all three points against a team that bounced straight back up after relegation. It could be difficult as it’s early days and there may be kinks to iron out. Hopefully, the lads will be up for the challenge.

Didn’t think much of Van Hecke when Brighton first signed him and the few times I saw him playing. But second half of last season and the start of this one, he’s turned into an exceptional defender. Defensive game and his ability on the ball.

As much as I’m delighted that Man Utd goal was disallowed, I must say they were unlucky, I would be ripping if that was us and it was disallowed to be honest.

An update on my health situation - we have terminated the PluVicto treatment halfway through, because of the severity of the side effects - diarrhea, vomiting, and acid reflux.

And there was no evidence the treatment was having any positive effect in stopping the prostate cancer from spreading in the bones.

There are no treatments left for me to go on.

I will go into home hospice care now and will have a hospice nurse visit me at home regularly to ensure I am as comfortable as possible and we will treat the side effects of the treatments I have had.

It's down the final stretch now, and I have run out of treatments, and nature will now take its course.

I hope Newcastle can get many wins this season from now on, and I am at peace with all of this.
