Eddie Howe pulled no surprises with his team selection against Southampton one week ago. He fielded an eleven that the general consensus sensed he would. However, a ridiculous moment in the 1-0 victory over The Saints leaves Howe short at the back.
Fabian Schar is not available after a straight red for his phantom head butt of Ben Brereton Diaz. The Chilean international should be ashamed of himself for his histrionics, which only served to fire up the crowd and the Magpies.
Without the Swiss for Sunday’s clash at The Cherries, Howe will be forced to alter his backline against his former club. While there are options, I suspect he’ll produce a straight swap with Emil Krafth in for Schar.
This is the lineup I predict for Sunday with just the one change. It could be another big chance for Emil, who has often risen to the occasion under Eddie Howe.

Comment #81After that last game it is very hard to get any sort of picture as to our potential performances for the coming games. First games are always difficult to assess but the last game (with Schar being sent off) is just about impossible to make any predictions. We got 3 points which is the aim but we were very very lucky.
EH needs to work his magic today.

Comment #83Whilst being a fine writer of interesting articles that explore football stories below the surface of the usual casual observations. Johnathon Wilson is self confessed Mackem and at least does not attempt to hide it in comparison to the NE sports correspondent from the same paper.
Whilst offering a pessimistic outlook for the club in the current state of frustration the article is not wrong. However to allude to another standard metaphor the opposite could equally be true. Indeed in comparison to the club down the road, the situation at nufc has been managed a lot better to deliver a more positive outcome.

Comment #86Centre back options:
Guehi – over priced
Christensen – injured
Tapsoba – declined move
Gomez – injury prone
Thiaw – unavailable
Disasi
Chalobah
Unless there is another unheard of option, it would seem that we are left with one of the two Chelsea defenders. Which should at least offer more value for money than the potential right winger they want to push out.

Comment #88The potential signings of Santiago Hezze and Alper Yilmaz seem to be led by Paul Mitchell and would in my opinion be good acquisitions. Both having the technical ability to boost the squad and progress with the team.

Comment #90Not sure if in this window the late arrival of Mitchell and his preferences has caused not a clash but a rethink of long held targets before he arrived?
If Guehi isn’t his and he’s not put any preliminary work into it maybe it’s causing us this messy saga
Could be that as before an Isak suddenly pops up with little more than couple days having been trailed in press?
Yeah I know I’m the eternal optimist but as a self defined stoic though, the dawn of reslity won’t phase me, won’t be the end of my world or support 🙂

Why don’t you read my post agsin? Writing to The Grauniad will do no more than voice a concern about its (and others’!) seeming bias towards the so-called big six.
We’re it anyone other than you that left your comment, I’d suggest they open their mind, think before posting but as it’s you, doing so would expose nothing more than bitterness arrogance and ignorance. You to a tee!

I do find it a bit sad that some people desperately want Minteh to fail just to prove a point. So some people are gloating at a young lad having a poor to average game yesterday and are probably the same people who weren’t quite so vocal about the excellent first 45 mins he had last week. It’s not his fault he was moved on at the age of only 19.
On another matter and this isn’t just to you ancient. Mitchell is getting a lot of flack and maybe rightly so but what exactly is our loan ranger doing? Still stuck with so much deadwood with 6 days left!!

I think you have it in a nutshell.
I think Guehi is Howe’s man, not necessarily Mitchell’s. It’s already been rumoured, though I haven’t had it verified by the blog experts that Mitchell wanted Tobido after knowing him from his his time in France. Mixed messages after the presser with Howe suggesting he is not in the loop any more and others saying he still has final say.
I wonder if we could get Badashile from Chelsea as that is the type of player Howe could mould at only 30M. He’s been poor so far but who knows. Chelsea must have quite a few gems who’ve gone under the radar.

Not sure what game you were watching. Tino was fantastic against Soto and their rapid wingers. I think Trippier would have struggled against their pace.

Comment #99I would hope there is an internal discussion going on regarding spending the entire transfer budget on one established PL player that is purely the Coaches choice. Or buying three players to develop that boost the squad as a whole, but may need more work and time to bed in.
It depends on how strongly Howe will be judged at the end of the season without CL qualification, but that is not guaranteed and at least the squad will be in a better place with the opportunity to trade.
The less attractive compromise is to take one of the Chelsea defenders with PL experience, but does that undermine Eddie.

Comment #101Who knows what’s happening with Guehi. We may have put a bid in for him, discussed it with Palace, and left it at that. Parish may have been trying to drum up other clubs to bid as we haven’t bid what he wants and nowhere near the 70m people seem to think we’ve bid.

Comment #102Did you notice that Fenham’s trolling list
That he posted yesterday just seems to consist
Of anyone who dares to call him out
For being a total spoofer and a bit of a lout
But that doesn’t make us trolls at all
We just see what he is and we’re making our call
We just differ from your regular sycophants
And don’t always ignore his threats and his rants
His blogging buddies like to turn a blind eye
To his alts and antics and I don’t know why
If it was someone like Munster who acted that way
There’d be total meltdowns and hell to pay
Do you think they will ever wake up and see
That their hero Fenners is getting away scot-free
With causing trouble and deflecting blame
He’s playing them for fools and he’s winning the game
He says that he hates the trolls on here
But he’s always been one himself, that much is clear
If there was a poll for the worst, I’d dare bet you
He would be just behind Mort as a clear number two
He tried it on Discord, but without a buddy
He was torn a new one, especially by Ruddy
He was out of his depth and could only hit back
By insulting everyone with a personal attack
It was obviously getting way out of hand
And he ended up being the first one banned
So he’s back on here to divide and conquer
We see you Fenners, you absolute plonker!

Comment #104What’s going on with these dorty mackems?
They’ve played Cardiff, Burnley, Wednesday and whacked ’em
With maximum points, they sit top of the tree
Who’s their new gaffer, this Reggie le Bris?
Is he the new Fergie, Guardiola or Klopp
I was hoping he’d be yet another big flop
The mackems are saying he could be the real deal
But I much preferred it when they had Michael Beale
Let’s hope he turns out to be just like that clown
And their house of cards comes tumbling down
Let this be the pride before the fall
As a happy mackem ain’t a good thing at all

A classic example of people just wanting to stir the pot, look at Rh, having a go at people for pointing out Minteh had a poor game, he was sticking the knife to the hilt last week, it was everything and everyone’s fault that we let him go. You can’t have it both ways, if you’re going to stick the knife in for letting him go, let others have their say when he’s nit playing well.

For the record, I am not pushing that agenda but we are yet to see if the two philosophies can blend over the long term and the development of the squad.
What would help is if Eales actually looked like a CEO with authority and conviction, rather than a cheerleader with Pom poms.

I was supposed to go 532 today but I got mixed up. What actually transpired from the exercise was, thank god’s Tonali will be coming in. Otherwise when we are into the middle of the season and injuries are more prevalent, we would potentially struggle in the middle.
