Deserving Duo Part Of Four Changes For Forest Cup Clash?

Under Eddie Howe, Newcastle have done very well in the domestic cup competitions. The hope is this season will be no different. After a disappointing 1-1 draw at Bournemouth over the weekend, the Magpies are in need of a positive result at Nottingham Forest on Wednesday.

During his press conference for the league cup tie, Howe committed to fielding a strong but slightly rotated squad. Here is some of what he said:

“We will try and play a really strong team; we want to progress. We will make changes as well at the same time, because we have a squad that I think enables me to do so, while not weakening the quality, we saw the strength of our bench on Sunday, which made a huge difference.

There are a lot of players eager to show what they can do. We are determined to do well; this competition has been good for us. Last year we were incredibly close to another semi-final.”

Howe got some excellent cameos on Sunday that helped salvage a point. Two of the standouts were Harvey Barnes and Kieran Trippier. I expect both to start on Wednesday as part of four overall changes with Lewis Hall and Joe Willock also involved.

Here is the team I predict Howe to name.

I have Anthony Gordon remaining in the starting eleven but jumping to the right flank. Howe must find a way to get his best attackers on the field together. Especially with news this morning that a right winger may not be in the summer’s transfer plans.

Howe also confirmed Sandro Tonali would make the squad after the end of his lengthy suspension. The Italian will likely not start due to a lack of match sharpness though reports are he has been terrific in training.

Unfortunately, I will not be able to put out the team news for this match. Hopefully, the lads can advance in the competition and then complete a few transfers by week’s end.

Miggy on the right for sure, then sell him and others on the peripheral of the squad. Every penny counts to strengthen the squad. I would certainly not spend £70 million on Guehi, now he’s cup tied as well. Palace are taking the proverbial. HWTL.

    pardon the repost…

We seem to be insisting on a requirement to only shop for players with PL experience. None of our PL competitors want to sell to us.

So shift the search outside the PL. To a club in Europe, all the PL clubs are rich and they need the money. We need to cast a wider net.

If we are going to drop 70M on a single player, go for Tapsoba for RCB, much higher ceiling than Guehi. Needs some time to adjust to PL but looks a star in the making, has won silverware and played in Europe. This is the kind of profile we should be after. Find a similar profile if a RW. Get Coman on loan, give him a bumper wage.

Even better, find the next Tapsoba, Coman whoever, like Brighton are doing.

The key to this season is how Eddie gets a tune out of our midfield. Keeping them fit and getting the combination right. How will he fit Tonali in. Willock, who offers something none of the others have. Pace. Last season there were no options in midfield. Hopefully different this one.

Bruno, Botman, Tonali, Isak, Big Joe all unproven in the league. They along with Gordon, Willock and maybe young full backs (could argue unproven in league) will become our spine.

Surely we can get another for £40million to learn from Schar rather than Geuhi. Fingers crossed over next couple of days.

I get the feeling that since Amanda Stavely left things are not the same. Something has happened, the club seems to have changed.
This transfer window is part of the change.
The number of bids for a player who many feel not up to the next level, that a club on the up would not be giving a second look at.
Here we are now just a few days from the end of this transfer window with nothing to show for it. Will it be a positive outcome? I am not sure..

Toonces, we will have to try something, my problem is I no longer follow what’s going on in other leagues, so haven’t got a clue about foreign players, we didn’t do badly finding in Issak or Bottom, or the Brazilian lads.

Do wonder what the plan for Barnes and Gordon was last season?

Gordon hadn’t really shown he was going to be that good for us previously so we can only assume Barnes would’ve been wide left with Gordon wide right?

Howe was asked the question at the weekend hy Hope and went on about balance

Surely even Barnes on the right would offer more than Almiron and Murphy?

Just feel Barnes, Gordon and Isak should be our 1st choice front 3 from the start every game until we sign other quality

    Hi Carltoon

Yes agree. Isak is excellent as are Botman and Bruno. All from outside the PL.

This might just be perception that we are only looking in the PL.

I just don’t get this apparent fixation on Guehi at the price reported. Good player but just not that this price.

I think PL experience is a plus but not the determining factor. It is probably more important to bring in some PL experience in the January window if the club was in a dog fight for relegation and a player had to jump right in. Summer window there is time for a new addition to be eased in (if that’s even a concern).

We’ll see what happens between now and the close of the weekend. Would love to see a new addition introduced to the crowd on Sunday and better yet, maybe even playing.

Onmeedson, keeping the squad fit, will definitely be the key this season, will we be in a better position to buy come January.
It seems unreal to be in this position, have they some other player do you think that’s gone under the radar.
Mind I hope we remember that flipping snake Parish, I’m not vindictive (well I am really ) I hope they fail miserably this season.

Toonces, I must admit I really liked Guehi from his England games, but the price, was getting ridiculous, anyway, we have to move on.
Please let them bring in at least one good player, just to appease some of the disgruntled fans. Which I’m sure most fans are upset, but really some on the SM are a disgrace.

It also looks like Palace are having us on. Again, they have every right while he remains a Palace player, but it’s a really bad look for Newcastle, who are being mugged off at this stage.

It’ll mean nothing if we don’t overcome Nottingham Forest tomorrow night, but the entire saga is becoming a bit of a farce at this point

Sorry I do not agree it looks bad on us.. Yes, that we kept on bidding, but no more than that.
I think due to their player playing really badly since the bids were placed it looks like Parish is the one with egg on his face not Newcastle.

You can spend105 mil over 3 years and we starting a new 3 year cycle.
So your spending is unlimited in the first year as long as you pay back upto 105 mil. So we could spend 500 mil now as long as we sold 395 in the following 2 years.
So why have we spent 10 mil this summer??
We have the richest owners in the world.
Something is wrong by any calculation

Yes, the whole being cup tied thing could be irrelevant if we lose tomorrow. Shouldn’t really make any difference to whether we buy Guehi or not, but could it. Looks bad if we win tomorrow and still buy him when we could have bought him before he became cup tied.
