Barnes, Kelly, And Longstaff Start Against Spurs At St. James’ Park

Newcastle are back at St. James’ Park today with a potentially revealing test against Tottenham. Eddie Howe has named the following eleven for the clash which has four changes from the midweek Carabao Cup win at Forest.

This is a strong team with Howe once again naming a front three of Alexander Isak, Harvey Barnes, and Anthony Gordon. Getting the trio clicking in front of net is vital after not strengthening the attack in the summer transfer window.

This is the team Ange Postecoglu has named. It’s a rare start for former Juventus and Genoa defender Radu Dragusin in the place of the injured Micky van de Ven.

A win and all could be well again on Tyneside. The Magpies are undefeated and three points takes them into the top five ahead of the first international break of this season.

Howay The Lads!

You wonder why Check and Regan should choose [to back] Fenham over Jail in first place – it’s simple…. those two share Fenham’s right wing views and Jail doesn’t appear that way inclined.

Anyway, I must go to try and find a shopping channel! 😉

I think, Neil, you’ll need to resolve the Nightshift, breakfast club debate regarding who created them.

I’ll do a poll on who’s the creator of the early morning club right now. Everyone who participates may vote. The poll will stay open for ten minutes.

Who’s the undisputed founder of the early morning club?

    EGB,
For the record, I meant zero offence by a few comments I honestly saw as banter, I’ve absolutely nothing against you, we’ve chatted off line and you helped me with that story of mine. You made a big fuss because of my story about a night shift, howay man, who cares. I’ve made two posts ribbing you about it, I’m sorry but I can’t bring myself to apologise for that as I see nothing wrong in those comments and really should be ignored or fire a bit back at me, as you were happy to do in the first place when I first mentioned nightshift. Very typical of half a dozen posters to use this as an excuse to call me a tit, tossa and a mug, absolutely zero interest in you being ‘targeted’ but an excuse to have a go at me and make a nothing situation in to something. I won’t mention you and the nightshift again, or the breakfast club or any other club that may spring up 🙂

I never thought that it was an obvious divide as you made it for the 2 I had noticed( there’s others anyway) but Check seems to have confirmed that it’s not that simple

Going way back to Ashley years I was more in tune with Bill’s posts than Jail but our politics seem more aligned ?

Another reason I try not to fall into slanging matches over petty labelling

    One size doesn’t fit all

If I can be critical that started off really well but you then turned it back onto Essex ( which is how you feel) but maybe your apology is then lost?

Only saying mate but I assume that’s not the effect you were aiming at?

Also other posters seizing on and exploiting the rift it isn’t Essex’ fault

To those I’d ask don’t bring me into it
as I’m genuinely trying to help Jail and end this unnecessary feud. I believe he’s trying to put right

If I was able to contact Jail of line I would have done so 😉

I think you’ve got the wrong end of the stick here, I wasn’t apologising to EGB, I honestly don’t see a reason to. EGB was being slightly disingenuous yesterday, seeing Fenham in one of his belligerent moods then choosing that moment to make the comment about the blog being a one man private club, if that wasn’t intended to have Fenham and his cronies an excuse to have a go at me then I don’t know what, hence my :clappinghands: emoji. Anyway, you’ve seen the ensuing posts so job well done.

How far away from Liverpool are Newcastle when it comes to having a data-informed recruitment model? — Matt D

Waugh: The short answer is that Newcastle are nowhere near as advanced in some areas of data analysis and data-applied recruitment as some other top-flight clubs

Does seem like this is where Mitchell will eventually shine for us

    LCBP,
I think we got the best of both worlds, we had Ashworth come in and set up the infrastructure which is his speciality and now we have Mitchell who’s data analysis is his. Probably wasn’t ideal Ashworth leaving when he did and in those circumstances but we just have to get on with it.

Yes I think it was said that Ashworth’s replacement would have a different role to his

That and the departure of the more public facing duo have contributed to the bumpy road we’ve hit recently

Results on pitch and the return from injury of key players like Wilson and Botman and Schar from suspension in the short term will hopefully get us back on track

January may be an indication as to how successfully off field issues are being addressed but as we know it’s not usually the best window but we have done well before so we’ll see

Yeah I wonder if Ashworth hadn’t been so keen to jump to Man Utd what would happen we might still have got Mitchell with Ashworth as his remit is different it’s more transfer and data focused

Personally think everyone should draw a line under the summer and all work together

I’m going to start with Positives:

    Isak played well scored goals
    Gordon and Tonali played great
    Hall got some assists

So these players should hopefully now be dusting off the cobwebs with 2 immensely winnable league games In a row now

    On Gordon…

Another very good game for England….

    On the left…

Eddie IMO will cause real issues with Gordon if he plays him on the right to accommodate Barnes.

Gordon has well earned the left position, as much as I rate Barnes if he can’t adjust to playing on the right he needs to be a very expensive bench and sub player.

    LCBP,
The int break really couldn’t have come at a better time and especially for Tonali and AG, two lots of 70 ish were perfect for AG and apparently Tonali was tireless in his two appearances. Howe also seems to rejuvenate the players when spending a bit of time with them, shame tge fixture list wasn’t a bit kinder and we got two home games in a row rather than the away, on the flip side to that though Wolves are apparently terrible atm and we always seem to do OK at Fulham, could be the perfect time to get two away games off the list.

    Bill’s,
Eze done himself no favours with an erratic performance, if Carsley does decide to play with an out and out LW rather than trying to shoehorn Foden in there, that’s AG’s to lose, just needs the goals and assists though to completely cement it.

    Hibbit,
You think that someone who can afford to go on a world cruise really needs £300 a year to heat their home. This mantra that they’re targeting the most vulnerable isn’t really true is it, the most vulnerable are still getting it. I’m not sure what the threshold is and maybe that needs looking in to. I’m fully expecting my tax bill to go up, if we want better schools, hospitals and more Bobby’s on the beat then the money has to come from somewhere.

Pretty sure at some stages againt Spurs, Barnes and Gordon actually swapped sides for a while.

I’m sure both want to play in any capacity, so them swapping sides a few times during a game keeps everyone happy.

Our front 3 are so fluid that I don’t really see it as an issue what side Gordon and Barnes start on. Gordon appears to have far more freedom, in the sense that he is very often the furthest forward and gone central beyond Isak, when Isak drops deep to get involved.
