Newcastle are back at St. James’ Park today with a potentially revealing test against Tottenham. Eddie Howe has named the following eleven for the clash which has four changes from the midweek Carabao Cup win at Forest.

This is a strong team with Howe once again naming a front three of Alexander Isak, Harvey Barnes, and Anthony Gordon. Getting the trio clicking in front of net is vital after not strengthening the attack in the summer transfer window.
This is the team Ange Postecoglu has named. It’s a rare start for former Juventus and Genoa defender Radu Dragusin in the place of the injured Micky van de Ven.

A win and all could be well again on Tyneside. The Magpies are undefeated and three points takes them into the top five ahead of the first international break of this season.

Comment #2801Well well, it looks as though The Chronic’s on the Howe-Mitchell case now.
https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/all-about/newcastle-united-fc#source=pwa
So,, while the likes of Hope, Taylor and others have been accused of making trouble, will the Chronic be accused of doing the same?
In any event, what’s Eales doing to bring the two warring parties together?

Once a bandwagon starts to roll you get on or get left behind 🙂
There is (understandably) friction but does it reach serious rift or civil war levels? I’m not convinced
However whatever the level it needs to be sorted soonest before it becomes the dominating issue as it is not seemingly going to die down as far as Journo’s are concerned
How club do that publically without causing greater speculation I’m not sure but they need to do something
If it is actually as bad as Press are beginning to increasingly speculate then I would be surprised if PIF chairman hasn’t already told all concerned to get it together and make it work
Surely if they think about it it isn’t an irretrievable situation
It is in all their interests to sort it as we simply can’t afford a season of lost momentum and they don’t want a failure on their CV’s
There is speculation by at least one national journalist that Carsley is in front at present for England job and no approach by FA for Howe – too expensive? (Poch having taken USA job)
So Eddie doesn’t appear to have any real viable alternatives to improve his career right now and arguably there is no way Mitchell is leaving having just been appointed by PIF

Comment #2804Mags…Yeah, having Schär back is absolutely massive for us, he’s vital to the way we like to play and even more so in the absence of Botman. Looking forward to seeing him play today…hopefully!!

Yup, the press won’t leave the supposed disharmony within the Club’s management alone unless there are real signs that all’s sweetness and light.
There’s can be no real winner between Eddie H and Mitchell and if he hasn’t done so already, Eales needs to metaphorically clash their heads together and tell them to clarify and agree roles – otherwise heads, as they say, will roll and it’s unlikely to be Mitchell.
At risk of labouring the point, Eddie Howe didn’t help the situation or himself by expressing his concerns to the media. By the same token, if EH’s comments are based on fact, then Eales’ seeming failure to involve Howe earlier in the Mitchell recruitment process thus having Howe buy into Mitchell’s appointment.
Time will tell

Good morning Sir, i would also start Sandro Tonali today if i was picking the team mate, but i have a feeling Eddie will go with Sean Longstaff, i would also go with Hall, but i think Kelly will get the nod, at least we have strong options at the moment fella, and Longstaff and Kelly are both good players.

I really don’t think there are any specifc moves or intentions to get Eddie out
Surely if there were they would just sack him – no need for messing about!
However there won’t be any major policy or personnel shifts simply to accomodate Eddie’s wishes either
We are moving into the next pivotal phase of club development and it’s simple – everybody has to sign up to it or consider their options
Eddie is the outlier in this and obviously the most affected by changes
He may have tried flexing his muscles to see what concessions he can achieve but he will only leave if he believes his position is completely untenable and it will be his decision at the end of the day

Comment #2822The changes afoot at club weren’t made simply to reduce Eddie’s influence in recruitment but that is a natural professional consequence of it and no one likes to have their influence constrained
Eddie has to come to terms with it preferably in amicable discussion with Eales and Mitchell

Comment #2823Is it too early to talk about January?
Are you all fed up of talking about Guehi?
Then I apologize for this in advance.
Personally I hope the club does not re-visit this. Why?
I do not see Parish’s ego accepting a low ball offer from us, also it would alert some of the London based “bigger” clubs.
Much as we hear what a nice lad he is, I cannot get away from thinking if one of them had come in then we would have heard more from the player, and he would have moved for around the 60M mark.
Mark has time to prove me wrong, but I feel he lacks a burning desire to play in black and white.
If he went to Chelsea he might even get a start ahead of Tosin Adarabioyo?
Do I sound bitter ?
Seriously though going back for Mark has the making of a total embarrassment, it may play into political games, but do we really want that?
Make the statement, we do not overpay, we will not be messed around and there are always more fish in the sea, even if we have to sail further to catch them.

There’s no doubt that EH is a good coach and owners know that and won’t want to lose him.
The owners seem to have realised or been convinced that whilst EH has been instrumental in bringing some great players in, there seems to be a problem in moving some players out – hence recent PSR problems and potentially more to come. In fairness to EH, some of the players now deemed expendable were required before he arrived.
So, between Eales, Mitchell and, hopefully, Eddie Howe, the Club need to agree who does what to enable the Club to crack on.

Comment #2837In simple terams, the only way Eddie leaves the club is if he starts to get poor results. That aint going to happen!
And when we start winning trophy’s he’ll be a permanent long term icon.
Mitchell will do his scouting job.
Bunce will advise on fitness.
Eales will look after finance and backroom admin.
The PIF will continue to back all of this and get on with improving the infrastructire.

I have mixed feelings about whether we wil be going back for Guehi
It has been a successful trademark of our recruitment to try again for players we really want but equally can move on as in Ekitke case ( his fault in that instance)
It seems obvious that he was primarily Howe’s target given Mitchell’s late arrival as we work a few windows ahead ( will be looking at January and next summer now)
So as player didn’t stop transfer Howe presumably would still prefer to get him
I doubt Guehi will entertain a new deal so price will drop and he will be in last 18 months so Palace might be more disposed to sell particularly if they can bring other clubs into bidding
However will even a reduced price be regarded by Mitchell as being our best option alongside wider considerations especially if Botman is back with Lascelles not far behind?
It will also depend on how we are doing in league and cup by then and whether cheaper alternatives have been identified
Another factor could be how are the relations between clubs after a bruising negotiation made public by Parish ( unhelpfully for us!!)
January is diificult anyway and usually means you pay over the odds but Mitchell seems intent on sticking to our valuation regardless
At right price and sublect to deal not jeopardising our overall new strategy then I would be OK with it but I’m not sure that will be the case
Given Mitchell’s words i feel it might be a case of either we got him last month or that ship has sailed because our policy has had to change and he is no longer a good fit?
It probably will be a first indication of just how the realignment is going
