Barnes, Kelly, And Longstaff Start Against Spurs At St. James’ Park

Newcastle are back at St. James’ Park today with a potentially revealing test against Tottenham. Eddie Howe has named the following eleven for the clash which has four changes from the midweek Carabao Cup win at Forest.

This is a strong team with Howe once again naming a front three of Alexander Isak, Harvey Barnes, and Anthony Gordon. Getting the trio clicking in front of net is vital after not strengthening the attack in the summer transfer window.

This is the team Ange Postecoglu has named. It’s a rare start for former Juventus and Genoa defender Radu Dragusin in the place of the injured Micky van de Ven.

A win and all could be well again on Tyneside. The Magpies are undefeated and three points takes them into the top five ahead of the first international break of this season.

Howay The Lads!

Just as long as we keep improving as we go and we’ll be grand.

Masterclass from Gordon today with two impressive runs out for the national team.

Great start regarding results so let’s hope that continues today.

According to you Fenham has plenty of support as a hero and anyone who goes against your creepy nature is considered one.

Put it this way I’d rather be anything else than being looked at as a creep.

    Each to their own tho

Are we expecting a new thread later if Neil can manage?

A fresh start and reset might be good

Well until match kicks off and then on here 🙂

Later – possibly other side of match but a while to go amd might catch the pre game entertainment provided from London

I did wonder how come we have the prime Sunday spot over the big London derby then realised they wouldn’t want to inconvenience those fans as we all know how difficult travel around North London is compared to getting anywhere from the Toon

Seriously I realise it would have been a police decision re KO time to avoid too much pre match drinking

Looking forward to the game today, im hoping we improve our performance, we have been poor really.
Wolves have yet to win a PL game, will they break their duck against us, maybe, sods law.
If Toon up their game i think we should win but nothing is easy in this lge , and Wolves won`t be rolling over for us, that`s a certainty.

I`m sticking with my 1-1 as i`m not convinced we will step it up enough to be totally convinced of a win, `ill be happy grinding out a win obviously but a good display with a few goals would really make my weekend.
Like i mentioned yesterday, we really do need to up our game, and soon, because we have a very difficult October which could see us plummet down the lge coming up against the much stronger teams.
    Over to you Eddie.

We are the second game today, will be interesting to see if the camera`s move straight to game 2 after the Spuds game like they usually do when the Toon are on first, or will they hang around London until just before KO at Molineux.
I mean, come on, tis the Big two London teams innit, why bother giving the Toon any extra air time than is absolutely necessary..

There’s very little transparency away from the grass, just noise, rumour and (usually) an ill-found accusation or two.
The press (as well as a few of the fans) love an unsettling headline, in the absence of a factual one.
On the pitch is where we can always be judged though, and it’s points over performance, albeit both are obviously best.

Will be a tough game today as they all are, especially away from home.
Gary O’ Neil has shown he is no mug. With so few candidates I’m surprised he’s not been mentioned around the England vacancy as yet.
Win it and we’re top three and title challengers, drop points and we’re (still) that club in crisis, such is the knee jerk nature of football.

I’m going for a hard fought 2-1 win, (Won’t be surprised by a 1-1 though… It nearly always ends 1-1 down there).
Isak, to continue his goal run, Eddie and the lads to remain unified and unbeaten, waving two fingers into the face(s) of the press and the fickle…

I m hoping for an away win today, to counter the off field rumblings that just wont go away.Nothing like winning a footie match to quell the rumour mills of civil war. It would also keep our claims of being good enough for top four in the mix ,i know very early in the league but we really should be thinking of beating teams like wolves if we are to have nay hope of hitting that target, not a draw A WIN ,anyway i think we ll hockey them today 5 nil .

In reply to your question mate, I’m fairly confident we will give a good account of ourselves today, I would dearly love to claim all 3 points, but just like WLtoon I have a feeling it will be a 1-1 draw which I feel would still be a good result marra. Magic

Just been watching that and i think that yes supportive of Eddie but as usual he (like all pundits away from area) doesn’t have any close insight into Newcastle and it shows

I posted yesterday about our Summer 23 recruitment which some weren’t happy about at time whereas I was but i was totally unaware of PSR coming up fast

The more i look at it the more i think if i’d known then what was coming at end of season I wouldn’t have been satisfied with it all

Every purchase can be fully justified on worth on pitch but where was the forward planning for PSR which could have cost us an elite player in June?

Although Eddie has an awareness of finances etc he is like all managers – he doesn’t like to let his favourites go and always wants new players in. Keegan was no different

Ok that isn’t his fault but who oversaw and signed of that recuitment ,who was empowered to say no Eddie we have to do different this time as PSR is right at our door?

Was a gamble knowingly made on progressing beyond CL group stages and selling Wilson Miggy in January (which completely backfired) to cover PSR shortfall at June 2024?

Remember Jan 2024 as the crows came home to roost – no signings, no loans and nobody moving out – iaccepted it as what wasneeded to comply

However we were simply postponing the inevitable but we fans weren’t aware of how dire things were

I said i would like journalists (and pundits) to look beyond sound bites and headlines and seriously look at our then spending with a critical eye and not see that with hindsight it was poor judgement – the powers at club didn’t need that hindsight they were fully aware of dangers or should have been

Cascarino of course stops short of that spending period referring only to that which got us into CL

A more holistic anaylsis of that window is required by those thinking Eddie and Amanda are being unfairly maligned here

Mitchell has poured a bucket of cold water on recruitment and maybe could have not been as pointed but I honestly defy anyone given the constraints of PSR not to recognise the reality of his statement – it wasn’t fit for purpose

I hate having to point the finger but the press need to stop simply blaming just Mitchell amd look at the whole picture

I agree all the pundits and journalists simply don`t have all the inside knowledge of what is really going on behind the scenes, as much as they would like to portray. From the outside looking in it looks like we are into phase two in the journey and process. On the Paul Mitchell recent statement, as far as i`m concerned it did come across as not very subtle to say the least, a bull in a china shop comes to mind mate!! I do hope it`s only initial teething problems, and Paul Mitchell and Eddie can iron out their differences going forward as i think they could be a very formidable team, and Newcastle would really benefit from that particular scenario marra..
