Hall, Murphy, And Schar Start At Wolves

Newcastle are back in action with a match at Wolves. As things have panned out this weekend, a win pushes the Magpies into at least the top three pending the Arsenal at Tottenham result.

This is the team that Eddie Howe will field at Molineux with three changes from the win over Spurs before the break. Fabian Schar comes straight back into the team after his suspension despite Emil Krafth’s impressive performances.

The other two changes are Jacob Murphy in for Harvey Barnes and Lewis Hall at left-back for Lloyd Kelly. The three who miss out are on the bench and likely in contention for starts at Wimbledon on Tuesday.

Gary O’Neill has chosen the following eleven for the struggling hosts.

Newcastle look to keep their unbeaten run alive in what has been a promising start to the campaign results-wise. The Mags haven’t quite found consistent form but have ground out results.

Hope abounds that the run continues with all three points pushing Newcastle near the top of the table.

Howay The Lads!

Kind of expected Tonali not to start. Two 90 minutes midweek after such a long time out. Makes sense to be a bit careful with his minutes.

Won’t be long till he starts though.

Team is good enough to do a job and have fantastic options on the bench to change the game.

As like most games, nothing given for free in the prem. a win would be huge.

Plenty of options for a Plan B on the bench. Something the manager was not afforded last season.

Good enough team to get a result but most would like Tonali and Barnes to play?.
Right wing will be a problem all season.
That’s where we should have focused. 70 mil for Marc was miles too much

    Check

Surprisingly with the quality we have that ball retention has been poor. You could see though that Tonali is on another level with his first time passing and pass and move. Hopefully that will rub off on others.

Mitchell won’t earn his money from transfers such as Guehi – players who everyone knows, see every week in the EPL(or other top leagues) and are top dollar. Hiring these types of players is simply about financial agreeing the price and personal terms, and it’s level of recruitment dominated by Man City, Chelsea and Man U who are happy to spend the ridiculous wages that those players demand.
He’ll earn his money by spotting younger players who can develop or players around the £25m mark who can develop into something better.

Rotonda – yeh, only a matter of time before Tonali comes in.

Actually wouldnt surprise me to see Willock in midfield if he gets a run of games. Big Joe back out wide left and Gordon swapping.

Looks like the right pick and subs.

Speed in this set up to get well ahead and Barnes and Osulo on later as both physically strong to keep Wolves on the back foot

    3-0 to Toon

Disagree with you. There’s no reason y tonali shouldn’t b starting today plenty of othere players have been away and played 2 90mins and came back and played the weekend. Tonali wasn’t missing for a year threw injuries so there’s no need to ease him back to try protect him from re injury. He’s been training away himself and kept himself in top shape. Add to it it’s only the start of the season where othere teams and players aren’t fully fit themselves he’s more than ready to b starting. So that’s just lazy excuses to agree with Eddie’s choice to start longstaff over Tonali. But what it’s proved to me yet again Eddie is to loyal to certain players and that is y he will never take us to the next level. He’s to nice.

Ive never though Guehi was worth more than 40. He simply aint that good. When Vardy is still skinning him in a footrace there is big problems folking out loads of dosh on him.

Must be able to get better.

Young Sean Longstaff is making his 150th appearance in the Premier League for Newcastle United today, becoming the 22nd player to reach this milestone for the club.

It’s probably just because he wanted to come, was happy with wages and is a good character.

Basically risk free, but a touch underwhelming for 50+ million.

Would be asking a lot for Tonali to start another 3rd in a week 90+ mins after such a long lay off.

Don’t think Barnes was ever really truly happy playing RW, nor was AG tbf. I think Murphy can do a job for now but he’s either very effective or totally anonymous.

I really enjoy Hall marauding forward but I thought Kelly would be nailed on to start away from home today.

61% of the Premier League meetings between Newcastle and Wolves have finished as a draw (11/18), the highest percentage of any fixture to have been played at least 15 times.

Think Murphy is picked as he is defensively great. Just a bit shit on the ball when pressed. Same as Sean. Just boot it away when pressured. Hopefully Sean can get some form back, has been poor for sometime on the ball. Can never fault his effort tho.

    Magic

from last thread on Cascarino’s comments

Yeah I think i’m getting more and more irked by journalists and pundits unable or unwilling to look beyond a comment and in doing so are stirring the pot and adding to issue

They are taking a one dimensional view of the situation which is turning into continual unfair criticism of Mitchell’s albeit clumsy point without anybody asking – did he have a legitimate but poorly made point though?

The press coverage exploits situation for their own ends and surely can only add to Eddie’s sense of unfairness

Maybe when it runs out of steam we’ll then see stories on the lines of – was Newcastle’s recruitment from Summer 23 fit for purpose? and if so who was to blame?

Cynical I know but Press like to have it both ways 🙂

Not lazy at all. Literally everyone talks about being match fit and that it’s completely different to regular training and fitness.

Tonali could have been training every day for the last 11 months and he still wouldn’t be ‘match fit’.

Two 90 minutes matches midweek after such a long time not playing competitive football. Was always more likely to be on the bench today.
