Hall, Murphy, and Tonali Start Against Man City

The Magpies face a stiff challenge after a disappointing 3-1 defeat at Fulham last weekend. The preeminent champions Manchester City stroll into St. James’ Park looking to solidify themselves as league leaders once again.

Eddie Howe has made some changes for this clash with Sandro Tonali getting his first league start since returning from his suspension. Unfortunately, Alexander Isak’s toe injury will keep him out of this one.

Here is the team Howe has selected with three changes from Craven Cottage.

This is the side Pep Guardiola has named for the Citizens.

Expectations are low for any result today. You never know, the lads may pull something off as this fixtures has not been bereft of drama over the past few seasons.

Howay The Lads!

I’m glad our defence don’t have to deal with Doku and Savinho, but this is a massive ask if we’re missing Isak. Fingers crossed

Three in midfield means we concede the midfield.
It’s going to be a game played on the break.
Hopefully I am wrong and we press high.
We can take this city team but not by defending. They love to play teams sitting back while they play 90 per cent of game across our box

I really hope Howe is reading the blog today, he would then realise that Charlie & Jimiley know better about the formation and midfield and he would soon change it

Obviously formations are not fluid at all, players are cemented in place, they don’t change position in transition or different parts of the pitch at all, so all he needs to do is just add 1 to the midfield and remove it elsewhere

    It’s that simple Eddie,come on!

Not worth hoping anything Jmiliey, you just have to accept that a professional knows better than you and would make a better decision than you, even that decision doesn’t beat the best team in the world.

You can apply that logic to all facets of your life, you are welcome

Putting gordan in as centre forward just might get him back on his game, think a win my be hard but you never no, but I’ll take a draw all day long.

Today’s game is probably one of the hardest games of the season.

I have Harrland in my FFL team but I sincerely hope he doesn’t score any goals today!

Just to be clear, everybody concedes midfield against Man City in the Premier League. Arsenal did last week and nearly came away with a win.Howe will have watched that match with interest.
I can’t remember ever seeing a Premier League match in the last 6 or so years where the opposition have controlled the midfield against Man City or even had greater possession. Maybe it has happened, but it must be very rare.

Fray Bentos take a bow, sir. Often embarrassing on here but never more than on match day.

Pretty sure no single NUFC fan felt confident going into the season with just Wilson and Isak as everyone knows Isak is injury prone and Wilson is just injured, period.

Howe has a plan for Osula and that plan doesn’t involve starting him against the champions in September. He wasn’t even Sheffield Utds first choice ffs.

Not sure if anyone else has mentioned the Gordon contract news? Talks progressing on new deal until 2030… even the Liverpool press now saying that means he won’t sign for them.

Are we going to see the old Anthony Gordon today?

Totally out of the blue news about Darren Eales, i hope the lad makes a full recovery, must be such a huge blow for him and his family.

On todays game, i`m obviously hoping for positive result, even a draw will do me, but unless we step up we have got no chance.
If Fulham can put 3 past us then god help us today.
Tonali might make the difference in CM, i hope so, because the two Brazilians have been passengers.
The big occasion against the champions may work in our favour and Gordon signing a new contract might raise the morale so lets see what happens

Fray Bentos maybe my post wasn’t clear but I was congratulating you for being a calm head.

While I agree it shouldn’t technically be possible to embarrass yourself on here it can nevertheless make embarrassing reading on a match day when the knives come out for Howe.
