The Magpies are coming off a magnificent performance against Manchester City. The lads battled for a well-deserved point against the reigning title holders to rebound off a poor display at Fulham.
The stakes remain high as Newcastle hope to advance in the league cup against League Two Wimbledon. Eddie Howe won’t let the lads relax as not advancing in this competition would be a severe blow.
This is the team Howe has named for tonight’s cup tie. It has eight changes from the weekend with a full debut for Will Osula.

A thought……. if you want to do something useful, why not offer your wisdom and expertise to Israel? Nah, that’d derail any plans they might have.

Latest video from Eddie Hope on possible new stadium in Leazes Park?
To summarise he ‘s done some research with Urban Green the charity that work in partnership with Council, Friends of Leazes Park, Freemen of Newcastle to manage the Park
Their replies to him are that they have had no contact from NUFC about a new stadium nor are they aware of any with Council either
He concludes that there won’t be a new stadium there ( he mentions other matters like Biodversity Net Gain plan as another issue)
Hoiwever as one of the comments points out if there had been contact with Council it would be subject to NDA’s so would Urban Green know (?)
He also mentions that there are some politics involved with Urban Green ( not sure if he means they might be replaced as the charity operating in Park ?)
Finally in another snippet he refers to a viewer contacting him to advise that he understands that a building behind the Gallowgate currently housing in part Sky Contact Centre has been purchased by Club ( or about to be?) as new office space is required by them,. Eddie has been unable to verify this
Enjoyable videoworth watching, covering a bit of history of Park and with some good Google Earth shots of area

I’ll watch that in bed, it’ll be interesting because that video link that got posted yesterday he said there was no chance of building on the park.

Well, Eddie thing’s video was a bit of a non-event, a potted history of Leazes Park and its potential as home for a relocated home for NUFC.
It’s obvious that revenue demands mean that the club’s ownership group’ll be looking at more than a facility to accommodate an increased number of fans – they’ll be looking at developing properties that’ll generate income and a huge return on investment and possibly some sort of return for the City. Not a five minute job to prepare.

Comment #368As much as the new ownership have worked wonders in transforming the club, taking 3.5 years to come up with a stadium plan is poor. Every season without a bigger and better stadium is a lost one. I can only assume the delay is because there are no straightforward options. Most of us could have told them that on day 1. Fans will only start to question the long term intentions of our owners. I would love to know what conversations have taken place with the council.

Comment #370Jail, I think they’ve had plenty of time. 3 years is enough. I think if location hadn’t been an issue we’d know by now, so I’m convinced it’s the complexity of the location that is the cause of the delay. There just isn’t a straightforward option, with Leazes park being the only city centre option, and that is fraught with issues. But the one I would try to push through. Can and will the council cooperate or feck it up like they did in 66.

Comment #371I forgot how beautiful Leazes Park is…I used to:go fishing with my little net looking to catch tiddlers and put them in my jar and throw them back before we went home that’s about 60 yrs ago now.
It’d be a shame to disrupt such a beautiful area near the city centre

But don’t the Reuben brothers own some or all of Gosforth Park?
Not too far from the City centre and subject to planning etc, a site with scope for a new stadium, training facilities and property developments such as hotels and other leisure industry activities? Development there’d free up the SJP site which in turn could provide city center green space to offset the loss of Gosforth Park.

Comment #379Guardian – All eyes on Gordon at old stomping ground
The spotlight remains on Anthony Gordon not simply because the pantomime villain role awaits on his return to Goodison Park. The jeers would have been much louder had the former Everton winger returned in the red of Liverpool, as was discussed briefly this summer. Gordon embodied the improvement that Eddie Howe had called for when Newcastle produced their best display of the season in last weekend’s draw with Manchester City, looking fitter, pressing high to telling effect and, as Pep Guardiola put it, being part of a team that was “impossible to contain” for 90 minutes. And doing so in an unaccustomed centre-forward role. With Alexander Isak still doubtful for the trip to Goodison the 23-year-old may be tasked with those duties again against his former club. His impact against an Everton defence that might again be missing the influential Jarrad Branthwaite through injury could prove instrumental in Newcastle’s mission to build on the City performance and atone for their last away outing at Fulham.

Comment #381Expected demand for tickets should be relatively easy to workout and the stadium may never be sized to meet the demand. I think to avoid letting property/land acquisition cost to escalate, the alternatives under consideration are being kept under the wrap. We may never get a heads up on this before the plan is pretty much done and dusted.

Comment #385Everton are likely to play a low block and play on the counter, as even league 2 sides have shown this to be effective. The traditional way to tackle this would be have two in the box and natural wingers. But I am not sure has the availability of players for that. Joelinton would perhaps be a natural big man in the box, but would Almiron be played on the left ahead of our more recognised starters. Plus, do we have a strong enough midfield with only two capable of stopping a fast break and would Howe be willing to start Kelly in central defence, as the only pacey defender.
Otherwise Eddie has the reoccurring conundrum of how to play a 433 against an organised and compact two banks of defenders. There were signs of it against Fulham in the first five minutes, but the ball was not played quick enough to find the player in well worked space.

Comment #388What has happened to Willock?
He has played well in tandem with Joelinton on the left, but the dynamic is not the same with Barnes. I still say his more natural position is in the right channel, where he first successfully played when on loan with us. And I would rather see Willock taking the the goal scoring opportunities that fall to Longstaff in that position.

The hacks reckon we will be back in for Guehi in January. The same player who wasn’t in a hurry to move, who wants a move to Liverpool or ManU and is over valued by Palace who made him Captain to try and keep his loyalty.
Noway do we pay £70m for a CB in struggling form. Maybe £35-£40m tops. Otherwise look elsewhere ?

Comment #391Leazes Park is a traditional city centre park area of its day. It’s actually quite tatty in places and should be , could be reborn to be an even greener and valuable park.
For example Edinburgh has the Biological gardens which are a larger safe haven for wildlife, shrubbery and trees. The land off Richardson Road is a rough field, the park area is really quite small. The pond needs a rebuild, something the Victorians often did.
With vision the City can accommodate a world class new stadium and create a stunning new park and I’ve suggested a Vieglands Park (Oslo) approach with all the outer approach areas to the ground and park as boulevards with no traffic.
None of this Old Trafford like approach to some space age urban housing project.
We’re better than that.

Comment #394If we do go back in for Guehi I think that probably will give us an idea whether Mitchell actually wants Howe around. Cant see him paying 70M for an average defender if Howe isn’t in their plans.
The only one who wants Guehi is Howe, ergo if we get him in January it will say a lit. But one thing I’m also certain of is Parish still won’t sell him any cheaper in January.

Comment #395There’s not a chance in Hell we pay £65/70M for Guehi, £55M tops I reckon which is still high but rules out the lottery of him talking to other clubs in the summer.

Comment #396I’m afraid Gosforth Park is a non option for the ground. It’s miles from the city centre with no direct transport links. Yes there’s a racecourse there but how many go to that?
SJP/Leazes Park is the only option in the city that I’m aware of, and no reason why we can’t have both a brand new stadium the envy of the PL and a beautiful park. Just extending the current SJP just gives us a lopsided baseball ground with poor atmosphere acoustics, with very average facilities.

Because all the options are problematic I think it’s the reason why it’s taken this long. Do you think the Saudis could put on a fleet of planes to ferry 52k to Wembley for every home game, for at least 2 years. No. Our geography hurts us from that perspective unlike the London clubs. Do you think the Saudis would have bought us if they’d realised the constraints on stadium expansion. They are used to only the best of everything and like to get their own way.
