Barnes, Gordon, and Hall Start At Everton

Newcastle take on the Toffees at Goodison Park this afternoon looking to keep the momentum going. The lads are coming off a terrific point against Manchester City while advancing to the Carabao Cup Round of 16 where they’ll take on Chelsea at St. James’ Park.

Everton too have a bit of momentum after getting their first win of the season against Crystal Palace last weekend. This will be a difficult test for the Magpies, who still struggle away from home.

This is the side Eddie Howe has named for today’s clash. It is the same team that drew 1-1 against Man City last weekend.

Here is the team Sean Dyche has selected for the hosts.

Taking all the spoils at Goodison would mean a comfortable international break on Tyneside. It will not be easy as the Toffees have played well and but for some late match collapses, would be in a much better place in the table.

Hopefully, this team can get the job done and Anthony Gordon can again play well up front in place of the injured Alexander Isak.

Howay The Lads!

Knew that would happen, although pickford moved that way before the kick. Is that allowed now?

    Big club mentality missing.
We need win and 3 points to stay close to top 4.

Gordon started too wide, could have dragged ball other way.
    Really poor penalty.

I knew this match was going to be a bit of an endurance test, hence the reason i said i would be very happy with a 1-0 victory.

This could well stay 0-0 at full time.

We’re playing very well it has to be said.

Good evening folks. I am a great fan of Anthony Gordon but his composure has forsaken him here. It might be wise to withdraw him. I trust Edward’s judgement and should he deem young Anthony fit to continue I will support that.

Everton are porous at the back yet we’re not ahead. City or Arsenal would be 2 or 3 up.

The team looks on fire. Real swagger about them all.

Tonali, Barnes and Gordon… making mugs out of Everton. (Penalty aside)

Tonali’s short and medium range passing is incredible.

We are the better team but we need a goal.
They will score a corner or fee kick. That’s all they do.
Nil nil with 10 to go is very dangerous. Pickford will just lump it.
Gordon has done well apart from the pen. Pickford could put his cap on it. He cannot head a ball either. Otherwise pretty good but missing Isak

Barnes has been in great positions sometimes but Joe either hasn’t given him the ball or has given him a bad ball.
We’ve still been on top but it will be interesting to see if we see Osula at some point if we don’t score. I’m not convinced that Gordon is doing any better as CF than Osula would, and we’re missing his talent wide.

We`re actually playing ok, just no cutting edge, i wonder is Eddie tempted to bring the young striker on and move Gordon to the wing, it would stretch them more, while giving us more physicality up front.

That was a steaming pile of shit. Our ball retention is horrific. It’s the only way Everton ever see the ball. Only bright spots are tonali and Gordon besides the penalty. Everyone else is down right bad or just skating.

Still think a lot is down to Howe. He plays small club football not big club which is why we struggle against teams that suck

Shame about the own, wasn’t great. But Gordon has easily been the best player on the pitch so far. Even after then pen miss.

Playing well, just need to be a little more decisive and show better composure when we’re around the box. Few pull backs and crosses have looked hopeful more than trying to actually pick someone out.

Keep it up and should get a clear opportunity to score and be able to keep them quiet.

No1. Gordon shouldn’t of been taking that penalty. Eddie should of made that call during the week.
No2. Jason tindal its about time you step down from set piece coach its amateur stuff week after week with no end results its time for a change. R better still somebody at the top demote him. It’s about time someone at the club appoint a world class set piece coach lik the rest of the top clubs. With the size of r team we should b doing far better at set pieces.
No3. The way this games going I can see Everton sneak it. Has that feel.

Refs already awarded 10 fouls against Everton and it should be way more
One yellow card late on, should have been 2 or 3 by now. Weak and typical. Thinks don’t spoil the game. Er that’s what Everton are getting away with.

I’m thinking how are we not 2 – 0 up? But in my humble opinion Newcastle are playing very well indeed.

Shame about the pen I would have been inclined to but the ball to the left of Pickford but never mind we’ll get the three points if they keep dominating as they have been!

Just what I read. It talks about a multi storey at the corner of Milburn and Leazes.
They want to reposition the ground.
    No contact with council.
