Barnes, Gordon, and Hall Start At Everton

Newcastle take on the Toffees at Goodison Park this afternoon looking to keep the momentum going. The lads are coming off a terrific point against Manchester City while advancing to the Carabao Cup Round of 16 where they’ll take on Chelsea at St. James’ Park.

Everton too have a bit of momentum after getting their first win of the season against Crystal Palace last weekend. This will be a difficult test for the Magpies, who still struggle away from home.

This is the side Eddie Howe has named for today’s clash. It is the same team that drew 1-1 against Man City last weekend.

Here is the team Sean Dyche has selected for the hosts.

Taking all the spoils at Goodison would mean a comfortable international break on Tyneside. It will not be easy as the Toffees have played well and but for some late match collapses, would be in a much better place in the table.

Hopefully, this team can get the job done and Anthony Gordon can again play well up front in place of the injured Alexander Isak.

Howay The Lads!

Really sad to hear about the news of Bruce’s grandson.

What ever you think about him it’s times like this that puts life into perspective.

Closest I came to your chase thing was many years ago when a couple of us on a course in London. Went to a pub and 2 tvs on. Small one on normal and big on digital. Big one was about 30 or 40 seconds behind. Some Euro game on and when watching smaller TV kept saying what was going to happen next. One bloke full of drink thought we were just amazing and how did we know so much about football, just said being from North East and Newcastle fans

Ofc he will mate just like he talks well of Targett and every player we have or had under him. Everyone knows what Eddie is like however when it suits one’s argument it will be used.

Mund ….no I don’t think there has you wouldn’t mind if he had score 7 in 7 or something but he has been bang average .
Even his own supporters who have actually watched him play say he is raw but has talent.

    Exactly mate.

The lad definitely has talent there’s no denying that but to say we’ve lost a major talent or someone we desperately needed etc I believe that’s going over the top. Might prove me wrong in a couple of years time tho.

    Davas,
How do you know he doesn’t 😀
Anyway my point is that even Eddie H has acknowledged that we didn’t want to sell him and that doesn’t make him a bed wetting…….. etc. There was always going to be the danger of him being talked about and I guess that’s why the club wanted him sold outside of the PL. And besides, without mentioning names, there are only one or two making a huge deal of it anyway, the same few that make a big deal out of every perceived fault.

Match day finally here and the last 3pm Saturday kick off for about 2 months. You can’t beat a Saturday 3pm kick off. Saying that 17:30 Saturday kickoff under the SJP lights is always a good one…

I very much hope that we put Brighton to the sword today and get the 3 points and give them some payback time for the draw they managed against us last season which derailed our European chances. Unable to get to this game unfortunately, but I’m hoping for a good showing, news that Isak is back and raring to go, that could well be the answer

Why are you referring to bed wetters…?

Every single fan didn’t want to lose Minteh however it happened.

Using Howe as tool to back up your argument is weak as you know what Howe is like and what he says however you felt the need to use it this time to reference about bed wetters twice. Very strange

Its match day, and thank foot for that.

It`s gonna be a toughie today, i reckon quite a few goals to be had in this one, i reckon four.
2-2 final score with Gordon on the score sheet.
Minteh seems to be getting a lot of attention for this one, the jury is out on him imo, but one thing is not in question is his pace, he is probably the quickest player on the field today , pace worries teams, like Gordon for us , Minteh will be a massive threat, there again Werner has pace and he did fook all against us so…..

Come on lads, lets see 3 points for the Toon today eh, it`s going to be a testing month ahead so we need a kick start now.

lol oh dear me reading back properly…so you just know that a certain poster off here will be desperate for Minteh to do well against Hall. Imagine the gloating if Minteh put in a MoTM display and scores the winner with seconds remaining. I tell you now he’d jump and shout with joy. We’d not hear the last of it for so long…

I’m not sure that Hall will play, I’ve a feeling he’ll start with Kelly at LCB and Burn at LB or vice versa.

I’m referring to bed wetters as that is what a few of those disappointed in losing Minteh have been labelled as when the truth is that most of us haven’t said anything different to what Howe said in his presser yesterday.

No one wanted him to go but he’s gone, the club had no other realistic option so did what they had to. If Minteh has a blinder or a shocker today proves absolutely nowt either way. Only time will tell when /if he’s excellent over not one match or even one season but over a number of seasons, but even if that happens…the club had no other realistic option to bale us out the psr shit.
Personally while he is playing for an EPL rival I hope his career never gets off the ground, but then I am a bit of a shit like that. 😀

Yankuba Minteh makes his first return to Newcastle since joining Brighton for £33m in late June. In reality the 20-year-old Gambia right winger was very rarely on Tyneside after signing from Odense for just under £6m in the summer of 2023. Almost immediately after arriving, a purchase driven by the club’s former sporting director Dan Ashworth, Minteh went out on a season-long loan to Feyenoord. After starring under Arne Slot last term, Eddie Howe harboured high hopes for Minteh but, instead, PSR concerns prompted a rushed sale that some at St James’ Park fear will prove a huge mistake. So far this season he has started five of Brighton’s seven league games, scoring his first goal for Fabian Hürzeler’s side in the 3-2 comeback win against Tottenham. The winger is said to have been extremely reluctant to leave Newcastle but now he threatens to show his former public, manager and teammates precisely what they are missing.

    Magicmac,

Best of luck with your bet mate, we need a good performance form the lads today though, Brighton are handy.
Imo opinion their weakest area of the team is CM so i`m hoping we see plenty of the ball and keep a certain winger quiet.
A win today will set us up nicely for the coming weeks, some real tough games coming up.

I`ll be keeping an eye on the Heed this season now that Rob Elliot has jumped ship, they looked a knocking bet for at least the playoffs but the new coach doesn`t fill me with confidence.
Losing to an 8th tier team in the cup through the week could be a bit of a reminder to Heed supporters just what to expect for the rest of the season.
I like to see most local non lge teams doing well, unfortunately it seems to be one step forward and two steps back for Gateshead.
