Gordon, Hall, and Isak Start Against Brighton

Newcastle are back in action after the October international break. The competition is stiff as Newcastle enter what could be a revealing stretch of matches. Today Brighton come to St. James Park in a battle between the sixth and seventh placed clubs.

This is who Eddie Howe has named for today’s match. It has two changes from the draw at Everton with Alexander Isak back leading the line.

Here is the side Fabian Hurzeler has selected for the Seagulls with Yankuba Minteh not in the squad.

This is a massive fixture despite it still being early. Newcastle have played better of late but to Howe’s admission, have not yet reached top gear. That may need to happen today to get all three points against a very talented Brighton side.

Jail there was a general disappointment about Anderson leaving, certainly not the hand wringing that the so called football savvy crew ( blog mates) claim. What was more at issue at the time was the sudden panic re PSR, the alarm of considering Gordon for sale, the surprise that we had got into this mess etc.

We all felt both players had a future with us, but this story that there was a terrible depression or whatever about EA is cobblers.

And it’s only coming out because he is doing well. If he was on the bench and Minteh was doing better nothing would be said.

Mind you it’s strange how we got into the mess we did as we had Mund telling us we had top execs running us. Yet there was sudden panic at the club. Strange. Maybe it wudnt have happened if the guy you hated so much stayed a bit longer.

Incorrect, there were some football savvy supporters on here who were not happy with the sale of Anderson at all and couldn’t understand why some of the bedwetters (the usual crew )
were crying over a player that never wore the jersey but didn’t care less for a player who had done OK for us and was still learning his trade .
But I suppose if you look at the history of the posters who were incorrect regarding Anderson, there is a long history on here of making mistakes regarding players’ potential .

    Yep, grass roots Ledge.

The usual know alls on here just being wise after the event.

There was no wrist slitting about EA. Disappointment yes, at both having to leave due to Amanda or whomever allowing us to fly too close to the flame of psr

In fact there was some back slapping that we were so clever to get 35mill for a guy who couldn’t get into our midfield.

But people don’t like to say that 🙂

Does it feel like we’re going backwards?

Can’t imagine there is much optimism about getting anything off Chelsea. 2 years ago we were more bullish.

Yet here we are with a fairly rested squad, probably missing only one “purple” and yet i doubt there is much optimism 🙁

No one said there were wrist slitting that’s just nonsense talk but there were some on here who were more disappointed to see Anderson leave that Mineth who hadn’t even wore the jersey.
You were one who was more annoyed about Mineth but there were some who were not but were annoyed over Anderson which os a fact as its all here in text if you look back .
You keep saying wise after the event, but you don’t shut up about Psr. Are you not doing the same thing ?

There is plenty of optimism from the more grounded supporters .
We have a very good manager, brilliant owners, and some brilliant players .
There is a hell of a lot of football to be played there no point wetting the bed just yet the table doesn’t get decided in October

Well I never think we are going to lose. Probably blind hope, but if I can’t support my team than what is the point. I hate Chelsea too. So I hope we batter them. Horrible club with horrible players throughout the years. John Terry and Ashley Cole are the epitome of a cockney footballer.

    Good Morning All

So a huge week for the Toon with 3 very difficult fixtures,
hand on heart i think today will be a Stamford Bridge to far, and particularly as it`s historically not a happy hunting ground for our lads.

Moving onto the Midweek League Cup tie against Chelsea, i can see the Toon being victories in this one and keeping our cup dreams alive.

Last but not least the league game against Arsenal i think it will finish honours even with a very creditable 1-1 Draw.

So there you have it Folks , that`s how i see the next week unfolding , and personally i would be very contented if those 3 possible scenarios transpired.

Spot on about our record being pitiful at the top grounds and spot on that it’s due to an inferiority complex which Keegan could not shift and neither can Eddie.
The great Keegans team always lost there and so does Eddies team. We have a good team now and a great team in mid 90s but it made no difference.
The teams were good enough to get some results but we’re not able to do so. Other mid table teams like Palace and West Ham can win away at these grounds but we can’t.
No idea why we have an inferiority complex but the mindset is not right. Are we playing for draws and always lose??
Eddie has not fixed it yet. Maybe today.

I can remember us winning at ManU in early 70s and Liverpool in 93 or 4. I know we have won against them again but I bet we have won no more than twice in 60 years at each ground. Arsenal might be three wins but the Gooners defeats do not hurt as much so I have lost count.
    It’s totally pathetic.
Eddie always seems to lose away to the top teams. Wait until May but that’s not a great reason to keep him. As I say, it’s all about results and positions. 8th or better and he should stay. 10th ot worse and he should go because the trend would be going the wrong way

You warned us ? Will you ever give over? You have never warned anyone about anything.
You have constantly bad mouthed the club and the people who run it to a level where some have questioned if you’re a supporter at all .
Now I’m not questioning that as I have seen photo evidence that is you with the big set of ears, I take it in the picture at the old quarter
But this is not the only platform that happens on eh Munster ?
There was no budget 2 years ago, that’s why we are in this mess .
As j has already said, is this season over ?
No, well then, don’t be wetting the bed now.
There’s a lot of football to be played at no point crying now when it can all change .
It stops with all the trying to look Clever and point scoring talk, man. we are faceless avatars on a football blog ffs who cares ?
You obviously do, but you just make yourself look a bigger eejit by saying it .

    On results against Chelsea…

IMO it has nothing at all to do with an inferiority complex or owt else other than we’ve never been a consistently top team or consistently good away… especially against the top teams.

How, over the past 30 years, every player, team and manager we have had inherits an inferiority complex when playing away to the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal, Manu and City beggars belief.

We never won the PL under Keegan or SBR’s time because we weren’t good enough, simple as, and losing away consistently to our challengers proved that.

But… that history means nowt when we play Chelsea today.

What it does mean though is that if we get beat it will be 2pts from our last 5 games and with Chelsea in the cup on Wednesday and Arsenal on Saturday we could be in a right slump if we don’t up our game.

We need a result today, a draw will do, and we need to win at least one of the next two games coming up.

I won’t be in meltdown if that doesn’t happen but plenty on the blog will be.

    That’s for defo.
