Almiron, Barnes, and Livramento Start At Chelsea

Newcastle continue a very difficult stretch with a clash at Stamford Bridge. The Magpies are coming off a very disappointing 1-0 defeat against Brighton at St. James’ Park. Now the terrain gets much more difficult.

It’s back to back matches against the Blues, who come to Newcastle for the Carabao Cup on Wednesday. Then it’s Arsenal at home to finish off a potentially revealing week.

Eddie Howe has been forced into changes for today’s critical fixture with Anthony Gordon out injured. Here is today’s team which has two changes from last Saturday’s defeat.

This is who Blues boss Enzo Maresca has named for the hosts.

Newcastle are in the bottom half of the table and in desperate need of a result. The Magpies just haven’t gotten fully going this term and a poor summer window may be a partial culprit.

Change can be swift in the Premier League and today holds a possibility for redemption against a Jekyll and Hyde Chelsea side. Hopefully, its Newcastle’s day with three points and a corner turned.

Howay The Lads!

Hall having another really good game so far, both defensively and offensively.

Bruno again. That looked like the 3rd time he gave it away.

Chelsea are open at the back. We can score again. But so can they.
Bruno’s passing has been terrible. He is no longer our star player

its rediculous how lonnnnng these checks are taking, you could see Palmer was offside, and you could see Isak was on side, it wasnt that hard.

Tino is a better defender. Both are good lads.

Hall is up against Madueke who is grease lightning. The lad is doing ok.
We should have signed Madueke before he scored that hattrick instead of wasting 3 weeks on Guedi

I’ve been impressed with our forward play today. You can tell they have been working on it during the week. The defending has gotten better since the first 15 minutes also

Hall will be England’s starting left back for years to come .
He is improving the defensive side of his game and is only turned 20 a lot of growth to come as a player

Not a bad half, especially considering it didn’t start too well.

Defending is looking better as the half went on and their defence looks like it can be got at.

Shame Gordon is out as he’d have created a chance or two so far. Barnes losing it in good situations a couple times now.

In the balance, wouldn’t be surprised if it goes either way.

    Goal from open play
Winning one on ones more than losing
    Lovely passing sequences

    Still can not head
    Slow at CB
Wingers need to control play more

    Both defences poor
Burn having a nightmare all over the place caught out of position time and time again.
Also passes out to Bruno when he is being marked

Bit more confidence in front of goal could be in front
Playing well Big Joe and Hall
    Non existing Almiron

Halls defending has improved immensely since last season. On the up and up, consistently putting in impressive performances now. Tino handling Netos pace relatively well too. Neto is a pace merchant, if a defender can match him pace wise, he doesn’t offer too much.

Good job Howe didn’t get cowed at 1-0 and crumble… some fans already had him in a taxi after 20 minutes.

The manager has went to Stamford Bridge — playing to win — and that didn’t change at 1-0 down.

How can you not admire it.

We are doing ok and can get more than something from the game.
But we have to hit them on the break. If it goes open we will lose as their midfield is faster than ours and they will run through us.
    Barnes and Almiron are quiet
Isak has scored a sitter but has no presence as a CF. We need somebody to hold the ball up and bully the defenders
Bruno needs to pass to Toon players. He can only get better

Midfield is so weak and non existent get Bruno off and Longstaff on think keep midfield tighter and win more balls
