Livramento, Longstaff, And Willock Start Against Arsenal

After an impressive win knocking Chelsea out of the Carabao Cup, Newcastle have another difficult test at St. James’ Park with Arsenal on the docket.

Eddie Howe makes just three changes to the midweek team for today’s clash. Here is the team that can move to just three points behind their opponents with a victory.

The Gunners will be without Martin Odegaard today as Mikel Arteta has named the following team.

Another win would be fantastic after booking a trip to a cup quarterfinal. The lads will have to be at their best to defeat a strong Arsenal side.

Howay The Lads!

Hanging on a bit there towards the end of that half, but still no real clear cut chances for Arsenal.

The last 15mins or so turned into a scrap. Not pretty to watch but I’m all in favour of that if it produces the right outcome. Trying to outplay Arsenal in open play can be suicide – they need to be rattled and we’re doing just that.

Second half is going to be tougher as I expect subs at half time. But we have good fresh legs on the bench too. Game on !!

Not been to a game for 10 years so I do not speak with authority and maybe it’s the tv muting the crowd, but you would not think we are playing well and beating Arsenal. It seems very quiet. That East Stand (Poplar ) just seems to sit there.
Apologies if I am wrong and being deceived by the tv

Bit of a novelty scoring from a cross, plus with a header.
So far Howe has got it spot on.
Just need a goal from a sub to put the game out of reach.

So if longstaff can be criticized for losing the ball in the opponents box about a 10 passes before a goal, then surely we can praise him for the quick perfectly weighted pass to Gordon which allowed him to hit it first time?

A really satisfactory 45 minutes by the lads, lets hope we can stay fully focused and keep it tight and compact for another 45 to see this out, a really enthralling game so far, come on the Toon 😀

    Longstaff with 4 successive tackles.

By comparison, the 8 defenders on the pitch for Newcastle and Arsenal have 5 between them.

Krafth for Scahar would be a canny move, if only to avoid a 2nd yellow.

Credit toEddie for not going exclusively defensive from the start and trusting in the performances of the players. They are defending in a 442 but at least that gives us more opportunity for an outlet.

Pope’s distribution is becoming such a weakness for us.

Cabt see him as no.1 next season. It would clean up our possession so so much with a competent ball kicking keeper.
