Burn, Tonali, And Willock Start At Crystal Palace

Newcastle are coming off a poor defeat at home to West Ham as they travel to South London to face Crystal Palace. The Eagles are mired in the drop zone having tasted victory just once this campaign.

The Magpies can hopefully recapture their form from before the international break when they won four on the trot including a 3-1 win away at Nottingham Forest. A result is sorely needed after Monday’s disappointment.

This is the team Eddie Howe has named for this crucial contest. It has two changes from West Ham with Dan Burn back and Sandro Tonali in for Sean Longstaff.

Here is who Oliver Glasner has selected for the hosts.

Let’s hope the return of Burn gets Newcastle back on track. This is an important fixture with three points desperately needed.

Howay The Lads!

As it’s coming up to Christmas maybe everybody can take a step back and avoid all the silly arguments, as the blog is quickly becoming very unreadable again.
If you don’t like someone just ignore them. If someone has a dig at you just ignore it. And if they carry on then it will become obvious who the troublemakers are.
There’s a mix of people on the blog, some like Howe, some think he should be replaced, some are overly negative, some are overly positive, but all opinions should be welcome here.
If you can’t abide by the comments policy that Ed provided then maybe you should just stay away, as Neil doesn’t deserve that after keeping the blog open for everyone.

    Mudryk, Guehi, Gyokeres.

Ideally, all three but we’s broke remember.

So, just one player in January?

I think we need two or else the vultures will keep circling.

A creative 10 who can break down and split open stubborn defences and a 9 to put them away.

Thing is, we’ll need to look for Black Friday deals, given our financial status.

But first, the three players. The defender is good but let’s face it not worth 70 big ones. Maybe half that. Would he drastically change our league position? Well no.

Mudryk. What a player on his day. And a specimen, an athlete which would suit Eddie. With pace to burn. Why not? Because he’d be too expensive, is frustratingly inconsistent, he would feel it’s a step down.

Gyokeres? Would pal up with Isak, make him want to stay, get 50 goals between them, guarantee top 4. Why not then? He’s going to Manchester United and we can’t compete with them in a bidding war.

So, for all three, a surpring no.

Why? We need to buy two three super talents on the way up, NOW (this means January) before they’re too expensive but who are obviously able. Do they exist? You betcha. You just got to know where to look.

Mitchell? Don’t look away man, I was talking to you 😉

It’s match day and there’s still time to enter Eddie’s bingo. Entries close at 5:15 this evening. https://www.nufcblog.com/2024/05/19/newcastle-finish-7th-with-good-4-2-win-but-now-wait-on-europa-conference-qualification/comment-page-4/#comment-3053597

    @Cyprus

Gykores would be a dream signing I think he would fit into our system better than Isak although if we could have both of them and change our system to a 352 that would also work for me with Isak having a more free role and Gykores handling the physical load like they do for Sweden perfect!

Mudryk I think we would have the same problems we have with our current wingers against a low block he is pretty much useless! We need someone more like a Salah a killer in front of goal but also can perform like a playmaker out wide as well Mbuemo seems like the closest to it but then there will be younger players abroad who can do a job no doubt

Guehi yep I like him although I would worry about him and Schar together as I reckon they would get dominated in the air but Botman/Burn and Guehi could be awesome potentially

Still think the team is crying out for a Maddison, Silva, Modric type of player who can control games and create chances out of nothing and will score at least goals

    Matchday

Next 2 games are both difficult and both possible losses if our best side (whatever that is ) doesn’t turn up

Lose them and our momentum going into another 2 crucial.games (aren’t they all) will not be good

Going to stay positive and hope for 4 points from these 2 and 2 wins from next

    Optimist ? Me ?

OK hands up 🙂 but Blog does enough to bring folk down so some cheer is needed this Christmas time

    Good Morning Folks

Huge game tonight against a Liverpool team who are in red hot form, and they will be clear favourites to come away with all 3 points at a packed Saint James Park.

Which version of the Toon will enter the fray tonight is anyone`s guess,
if our performance is on a par with the last two games it could be a very long night indeed.

For my part i have a feeling the lads will step up to the plate and get something from the game tonight,

The law of averages suggest we are due a favourable result against Liverpool.

Being an optimist i`m going for a 1-1 tonight folks

And yes i`m very aware i could indeed be described as a happy clapper,

or even worse a member of that dreaded head in the sand Ostrich Club 😀 😀

I too was there to see Mac’s hat-trick. If I remember correctly, he said he couldn’t remember the third, a header – he was concussed.

What a player, especially alongside Terry Hibbett,
