Newcastle Face League Leaders Liverpool At St. James’ Park

Newcastle face league leaders Liverpool this evening. The Reds are flying high with a nine point lead over Arsenal and Chelsea. It’s up to Eddie Howe and the lads to put a damper on their campaign.

The Magpies are coming off a couple of disappointing results. After losing at home to West Ham, a late goal at Selhurst Park cost Newcastle all the spoils over the weekend. However, under Howe Newcastle often meet the challenge against favored opposition.

A top performance will be needed to get anything against Liverpool, who have handled Newcastle capably since the takeover. Hopefully, the lads can find some form and pick up a needed result.

In other news, Newcastle have drawn Bromley at home in the third round of the FA Cup. This is a very good draw which will hopefully see the Magpies advance in the storied competition.

Unfortunately, I’ll not be able to watch today’s match due to work obligations. This article can stand in as a thread for the match.

Howay The Lads!

Playing very well. But man Gordon just go around the keeper! He’s been poor in the final third for a while now

Isak definitely in the groove tonight, fancied him to score when he shaped up for that one.
Gordon has been pretty poor so far, ineffective and should have scored.

Tonali and Joelinton are playing well together

Bruno needs to lose a stone as he is a yard or 2 off the pace

Spellbinding stuff in the first half.

Not just doing it, but doing it in style.

We always seem to turn up in big games and drop off in easy 3 pointers vs poorer teams, we need to be like this vs everyone and we will win games.

The pressing is exactly what we needed against teams like this, we cant allow Liverpool to pass it around or they will punish us.

Its been missing so long and it needs to come back.

It should of been 2-0 at half time if not for gordon missing a sitter.

Gordon just kicked it at the keeper. That type of shot hardly ever scores. Placed, chipped or go round. A bit like big Les v Schmeichel.

The players can hold there heads up high, we have played brilliant that first half, i just hope we can continue second half and if we get a result against these it will be one of the best results for nufc since the takeover.

Liverpool are flying and they just cant deal with us at the minute.

When all the players are at it and we relentlessly press like this not many teams can deal with us.

it just needs to be more consistant.

If we play like this vs brentford we will blow them away.

I just hope its not a flash in the pan as this match has been a joy to watch

3 yellows so far for them keep up our press and they could be down to ten men.

Van Dyck should have been carded as well that was deliberate and nasty!

    I guess Howe can stay.

what a half. best Newcastle have played this season. Bruno playing further forward is making the difference

Van Dijk isnt a very good defender any longer…he was all over the place & not in a good way . Konate is a massive miss for Liverpool

van dijk 100% meant to shoulder Gordon. not enough for a red…but should have been a yellow

The most Jeckyl and Hyde team ever! Absolutely amazing today this first half. Isak could have had 4 assists!! Wish Gordon had put that away, could have chipped the keeper or gone round him. Hope that doesn’t come back to haunt us.

Nerves will be shattered 2 half but massive improvement the first 45.
