Barnes, Murphy, And Longstaff Start At Brentford

Newcastle travel to Brentford today after tallying a well-deserved point against league leaders Liverpool on Wednesday. While it’s been a rollercoaster start to the campaign, Newcastle can do themselves a lot of good with a victory over the Bees; a club they’ve had a lot of away success against recently.

This is the team Eddie Howe has selected for today’s clash. It has two changes from the midweek draw with Harvey Barnes and Sean Longstaff in for Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali.

Here is the side Bees boss Thomas Frank has named.

A win should see Newcastle comfortably placed in the top ten with a platform to build upon. However, the Brentford will be eager to carve the same path for themselves. A top performance is needed to get Newcastle on track for a push for Europe.

    Tindall apparently.

We equally need a tiki taka coach and a set piece coach.

    Catchy

I do believe there are better out there, both technically and tactically and most importantly are winners.

    Terzic and Consecaio for starters.

    450M spent and we’re 12th, probably 13th by tomorrow.

Gordon scores his penalty against Everton and we win that

Murphy scores against Liverpool and were two up and probably win that

Isak scores the sitter today – we win that

    And numerous other examples.

The players are being over coached, even conditioned so they are too tense and not instinctive enough. Let them play with more flair.

Another 6 goal thriller for a second match in a row. Just got tired in the second half and the change in formation, emptied our midfield. Perhaps need fresher legs in central defence but difficult to play Kelly up to match fitness.

The match went with form and was not unexpected. Although Trippiers first (free) kick was very predictable. The performances of the first team are generally inconsistent and the players used to rotate are not offering a great deal either. Whether it is fitness / stamina or a problem with being too predictable with our style of play, there is a lot of improvement required.

Also would it be the end of the world if Jose took us over ?

Our team is best suited to counter attack he’s one of the best managers ever at that

He would organise our defence and midfield so we stop conceding stupid goals

Our set pieces would be miles better

We would also move to 4231 which suits our players much better

Guy also knows how to win trophies he had FFP issues at Roma and still got them places

Our football is pretty dross at times just now it’s not like we are playing liquid football all the time

I still believe in Eddie Howe! Yes I’m disappointed with the result but then again I’m disappointed every time Newcastle lose and well pleased when they win!

The Premier League is probably the toughest league in the world and every fixture is a battle there’s no easy games – None at all.

If they fail to gain 6 points from the next two games then I will be worried!

Pope was not at fault for any of their goals!
The first two were from aberrant passes from Schar and Burns.
The third was from a lucky bounce.
The fourth was because we were pushing for our third.
    Hall and Livramento were OK.
    The midfield was awful!
    Where was Joelinton?
Almiron was less than useless when he came on!
    Why didn’t Tonali start?
Maybe a new manager is needed!!

A big problem with Howe last season was that he didn’t rotate enough and always played his favourites.
When we have 3 games in a week it makes sense to freshen things up a bit and rest certain players.
Don’t think Tonali was that great when he came on anyway, and Longstaff was unlucky not to score early on.
Not sure what is happening with Miley this season, but if he can be integrated then we could possibly offload Longstaff in January if there are any takers and then strengthen elsewhere.

Brentford must have looked at our team sheet and seen that Tonali missing makes life easier for them. He was immense against Liverpool and is now match fit. He should start and sling with Bruno and BigJoe those 3 give the opposition something to worry about. 65 minutes into a game and his impact is diminishing.

Concerned that Eddie is under pressure and isn’t thinking straight.

It’s clear that defensively the team is vulnerable. Perhaps Botman will help that, together with another pacey CB. But we missed chances again first half. This was a game where we had to get our noses in front. Sean unlucky to hit the bar in 3rd minute. Isak round the keeper but slow to finish. These are big moments in games and they’re not going our way. Absolutely no way Eddie gets binned this season, but may happen at the end. But only if we have a very good replacement lined up. Iraola would be the only option for me, but I want Eddie to turn it round.

Just don’t know what to make of that.

First goal. Hall is surely too deep. Then he puts both hands behind his back.
Why. He’s not even in the penalty box when he does it. You’ve got to show him out to his right or at least try to. Poor really.

Isak when he is past their goalie. He does not seem to have the close control when dribbling he had a while back. Surely he can take that away to his left and score.

Their second. Rapidly going off Barnes.

Their third. Pundit said the wind/conditions played a part. Aye, ok.

Thing is we are leaking soft goals.
We have to score 3 or 4 just to get a point.

Far too many points have slipped away this season. Just don’t think we’ll pull them back. Second half of season we have relatively much harder away games but easier home games. Ultimately you don’t achieve any success if you can’t win a certain number of away games. Been a problem for 2 seasons now and at the same time we’re not as convincing at home. Not a good combo that.

Looked again at Brentfords first goal.
    That is poor from Hall.
I know a top attacker can get the better of you.

    But it’s just all wrong.
Wrong position. Needs to be more over to his right.
    Also, wrong body shape.

Thing is it’s a worry. I know he is still young, but I think you do that naturally or you don’t. Not sure it can be coached. If it can it is basics and he has been coached by the best since he was a kid.

    Hands behind the back.
Really just don’t get that. Did the same Wednesday night so nobody is putting him right on it.

Where’s Miley – he has been sent to the reserves. Wouldn’t surprise me if he is sold
Back to Tonali – best outfield player at Palace
Best outfield player against the dippers – Bruno had his best game this season playing with Tonali
Why oh why break the combination up

Use to bang on about Rafa many an argument with Jail, playing the same system home or away against top teams and bottom teams. Subs like for like.
Sadly Howe has become another Rafa – same system whatever whoever we play subs like for like.
Same style of football sideways slow slow in to many a game.
We now have a decent run of fixtures including cup games – got to go undefeated and win both cup games – no excuses.
If not we then I think Howes position is under threat

We’re only 7 points behind Forest in 5th.

With Spurs and Manu two of the slimey six struggling this would be a good season to stake a claim for top 4 or 5.
