Newcastle return to St. James’ Park today in desperate need of a win after picking up just two points over the last four matches. The Magpies take on a Leicester City side that have beaten West Ham and drew against Brighton in their previous two matches, albeit at home.
This is the team Eddie Howe has named today. It has three changes from the disappointing defeat at Brentford last weekend with Martin Dubravka in for injured Nick Pope.

Anything but a win today would further complicate matters on Tyneside. The project has stagnated for the moment but Newcastle remain just six points from a European place.

Comment #242Albeit against a poor substandard Leicester team, i thought that was possibly our most impressive display this season in terms of sheer football entertainment and fluency, you could easily make a valid case for any player being motm as every player was basically outstanding yesterday.
On the partnership between young Lewis Hall and Gordon, it`s just getting better and better with each passing match, and they seemed to have developed a telepathic understanding, it`s actually quite reminiscent of that marvelous partnership between Trippier and Almiron.
Yes you`ve guessed it, this is one very happy Irish clapper this morning, long may it continue.

Comment #243Gordon was MotM yesterday without a doubt. He was attacking with speed on the wing and clearly the opposition couldn’t cope with his forays.
Great wing play – none of this playing him at centre forward mullarkey that a couple on here promote with gusto (must be Mackems).

What are the main issues a few lads on Discord have with young Alice mate, i find that quite surprising, like she is fairly knowledgeable and well informed about football, i have watched her talk about numerous other teams in the premier league in the past and she clearly has a good grasp about other teams plus their individual players!!
She recently won the football content award in London, so she is obviously doing something right Raj.

Very positive (miss that feeling):
1-makes me wonder if with a proper techncal #10 would Brunali be able to play in a 4231
2-would we miss Murphys defensive contribution cavering back….not that should stop a deal being made
3-i like Halls willingness to gamble, but that relies on Burns ability to cover. Gordon gambles don’t seem to be as well calculated.
4-keeping it fresh will be improtant going forward, for example the player coming at LMC against Ipswich will be match fit.
5-an absolute must, not only to progress in a season with little other challenges but to ‘put right’ the result last week quickly.

Same happened with me when I seen Dummet and Mark Gillespie going to Dusseldorf, got talking to Dummet but couldn’t place Gillespie’s face, the lad from Carlisle I got sat next to told me who it was, I wanted to ask about the keeper situation but never seen them again.

Comment #255So, Hope has given his stars for the game, 1 to Hall, 2 Gordon, 3 Tonali.
Good assessment, I’d give the 3 to Gordon, constant movement all over the place, was unplayable. The very best thing about our play yesterday? Movement: off the ball and on. Made it hard to pin anyone down. E.g. think where Gordon was for our first goal.
That game probably confirmed our best MF trio, Tonali Bruno Joel.
If I may be a touch critical, against the wave, I’m expecting even more from Tonali. This isn’t a negative comment, it just shows how much I rate him.

Probably best you didn’t catch up with him.
Switch places, imagine a random stranger rushing toward you to ask a question you definitely do not want to address.
I understand the temptation but I’d leave him alone, he’d probably just nod politely anyway.
Just me though, hell tackle him if it suits you 😉

I think with Tonali as the 6 , Bruno as the 8 it’s a shame we sold Anderson as he’s the kind of tricky 8/10 type that we need he got another lovely assist for Forest last night
I like Joelinton but I feel we need to be replacing him with someone who can score goals and create from midfield which he doesn’t always do when he gets into the position
Perhaps Miley could be that one who eventually takes that position as he’s got the technical locked down already

It’s a weird conundrum because Gordon and Hall is such a creative combination you almost want a pure finisher to be on the right hand side to take advantage
The worst part about Gordon’s game is his finishing he did less of trying daft shots and laid it off to Hall which is why he had an involvement in near enough all the goals
It almost makes a lot of sense why we wanted Elanga as he’s a really good finisher who could take advantage
Bakayoko to me seems more a playmaker than a finisher so would be interesting to see how that would work out

Comment #275Lewis Hall vs U21 full-backs in the “Top 5 Leagues” this season:
– Forward passes: 1st
– Progressive passes: 1st
– Blocked shots: 1st
– Crosses into box: 1st
– Through passes: 1st
– Aerial duels won: 2nd
– Interceptions: 2nd
– Passes: 2nd
– Expected assists: 3rd

Comment #276afternoon all what a thoroughly entertaining game, from the very first whistle till the last,
players were up for it and so were the crowd/fans and the effort from all was excellent and none stop,
2/3 players could have easily got the motm award but for me Hall just nicked it,
also a Special mention for DB who had Vardy in his pocket for the full game and made him so ineffective,
great game, great result, well deserved,

Yeah I certainly think he can do a modern take on a no 10
Ancellotti had said that he envisaged Gordon playing as a 10 long term because of his appreciation of space etc
If he could improve his finishing he could be a Thomas Muller type of player he’s got to want to score those dirty tap ins though!! Hungry for any type of goal 🙂
