Newcastle Take On Brentford In Carabao Cup Quarterfinal

Newcastle will have vengeance on their minds when Brentford come to St. James’ Park today for the league cup quarterfinal. The Mags were swarmed by the Bees in a 4-2 away defeat a few weeks ago. However, the St. James’ Park setting this evening will hopefully make for a different outcome.

Newcastle were outstanding in downing Leicester on Saturday with a romping 4-0 win. The lads put in an almost perfect display and will hope to carry that momentum into today’s ultra-important cup clash.

A second straight win and a ticket to the Carabao cup semi-final would certainly help assuage some of this campaign’s frustrations. So let’s hope the lads can get it done tonight.

Howay The Lads!

I will unfortunately not be available to post the teams or watch this match so this can stand in as the match thread.

I know hindsight is a wonderful thing but think we missed out on that Delap for Ipswich 21 years old and looks like he will only get better

“Eastham played for Newcastle United and Arsenal before joining Stoke for £35,000 shortly after the 1966 World Cup.”

“With his contract due to expire soon, in 1959, Eastham refused to sign a new one and requested a transfer. However, Newcastle refused to let Eastham go.”

    Dougall,
I hadn’t realised they were third, one more win should do it.

Oh yes, the Eastham dispute seems like a million years ago and the result of it broke and established a major principle.

Newcastle United is saddened to learn of the passing of former player, George Eastham.

The thoughts of everyone at the club is with George’s family and friends at this very difficult time.

Delap will be a handful but the player who I think is most impressive so far for Ipswich is Omari Hutchinson, their tricky right winger. His close control is amazing and he really commits defenders and makes things happen – Hall will have his hands full.
Just 21 and (yet another) product of the Chelsea academy having initially been in Arsenal’s youth system, Ipswich bought him for £20m or so in the summer after being on loan at Ipswich in the Championship for their promotion season.
Chelsea really did buy up enormous amounts of youth talent, loaned them out to develop and then cashed-in on the sales. It should never have been allowed !!!
I think it will be an exciting match but still confident of a win.

Very sorry to read of George Eastham’s passing – he was a class player who will always be remembered by the more senior readers of this blog!

A husband leans over and asks his wife…

“ Do you remember the first time we had sex together over fifty years ago? We went behind the village tavern where you leaned against the back fence and I made love to you.”

Yes, she says, “I remember it well.”

OK, he says, “How about taking a stroll around there again and we can do it for old time’s sake?”

“Oh Jim, you old devil, that sounds like a crazy, but good idea!”

A police officer sitting in the next booth heard their conversation and, having a chuckle to himself, he thinks to himself, I’ve got to see these two old-timers having sex against a fence. I’ll just keep an eye on them so there’s no trouble. So he follows them.

The elderly couple walks haltingly along, leaning on each other for support aided by walking sticks. Finally, they get to the back of the tavern and make their way to the fence The old lady lifts her skirt and the old man drops his trousers. As she leans against the fence, the old man moves in..

Then suddenly they erupt into the most furious sex that the policeman has ever seen. This goes on for about ten minutes while both are making loud noises and moaning and screaming. Finally, they both collapse, panting on the ground.

The policeman is amazed. He thinks he has learned something about life and old age that he didn’t know.

After about half an hour of lying on the ground recovering, the old couple struggle to their feet and put their clothes back on.

The policeman, is still watching and thinks to himself, this is truly amazing, I’ve got to ask them what their secret is.

So, as the couple passes, he says to them, “Excuse me, but that was something else. You must’ve had a fantastic sex life together. Is there some sort of secret to this?”

Shaking, the old man is barely able to reply,

“Fifty years ago that wasn’t an electric fence.”

    Mund,

Aye this game is made that extra special because of the SBR links. I’ve always had a soft spot for Ipswich because of the links, and when they got promoted back to the EPL I was happy for them.

Huge game and yes momentum is key here. We must keep this winning run going . The big plus for me is that Tonali is really starting to show us exactly why we went after him. Also, Gordon is getting his mojo back along with Isak who for me is the best striker in the business right now playing for the toon. Been a long time since we have so much quality right through the spine of the team. I hope we keep our good consistency up with a solid win, because we started this season as inconsistent hence why we’re where we’re in the league. A win will really help us and go into the second half of the season firing on all cylinders with 2 quality players signed in January.

It’s so nice to see the puppet and its operator are back together and functioning as one.

And, speaking of puppets, it’s never a show without Punch or in this case, Tuff!
