Newcastle Take On Brentford In Carabao Cup Quarterfinal

Newcastle will have vengeance on their minds when Brentford come to St. James’ Park today for the league cup quarterfinal. The Mags were swarmed by the Bees in a 4-2 away defeat a few weeks ago. However, the St. James’ Park setting this evening will hopefully make for a different outcome.

Newcastle were outstanding in downing Leicester on Saturday with a romping 4-0 win. The lads put in an almost perfect display and will hope to carry that momentum into today’s ultra-important cup clash.

A second straight win and a ticket to the Carabao cup semi-final would certainly help assuage some of this campaign’s frustrations. So let’s hope the lads can get it done tonight.

Howay The Lads!

I will unfortunately not be available to post the teams or watch this match so this can stand in as the match thread.

Decent half. Was a bit “business-like”, ie doing what must be done.

Brentford are a side to be reckoned with, still.

So, will need to continue this.

When I said I was expecting more from Tonali, this is what I meant.

BTW, have you noticed how he’s combining with Bruno? They’re beginning to get an understanding.

    That could be bad news.

For the rest of the league.

Wissa with his arms all round Joelinton as the ball came into the box for the first goal and commentators asking if Joelinton was blocking Wissa from getting back. What on earth were they watching?
Anyway, should be straightforward from now on. Arsenal 0-1 at home to Palace at half-time is a shocker….we can but hope.

Concentrate lads don’t let them sneak in through sloppy play

We are our own worst enemy in possession so let’s keep it simple for the 1st 10 mins

Brentford really look a much more ineffective team on their travels to be fair, let`s hope it stays that way 😀

Tonali is starting to look tired, he was noticeably slower than usual running back just there.

I’d imagine they will tske him off soon. Ran his socks off

Hall and Gordon were subbed cos they’d miss 1st leg if they got booked. We’ve already lost Schär and Bruno for it.

Schar and Bruno will be a huge loss for the semi final mate, is the semi final draw tonight? Perhaps Botman will be fully fit for that semi final.

That’s annoying Dubs deserved a clean sheet.

But a classic example of how our lack of pace at the back is a real real problem.

Well, this was a comprehensive display.

Another team comprehensively beaten, some excellent moves at some intervals, substitutes kept the same level.

    24 attempts too.

    Congratulations to all involved.

Annoying goal to concede Dubs was let down badly

Been loving his passing though just making us press resistant Pope would lose possession and it would put us under pressure for no reason

Just makes us better on the counter keeping the ball in situations like that

Tonali definitely best player on the pitch tonight.

Not just the goals, he was everywhere!

Supporting attacks, covering players when they push forward, fantastic defensive positional play, smart quick passes, tracking runs and chasing back.

    Total midfield performance.
