Newcastle are back in action after two terrific victories, the second of which propelled the Magpies into the Carabao Cup semifinals where they’ll take on Arsenal. Today will provide another test for consistency, an attribute sorely lacking this season.
The lads travel down to Ipswich Town, a club back in the big time after back to back promotions. At the historic Portman Road, the Magpies and traveling supporters will be greeted by a familiar site; a statue of Sir Bobby Robson who led the Tractor Boys to great success early in his career.
Newcastle are in need of another win to climb the league table. The 4-0 win against Leicester last weekend helped close the gap but Newcastle remain 12th in the table. All three points at Ipswich could alter that position dramatically.
Here is the side Eddie Howe has named for this important away fixture. It has one change from the win over Brentford in the league cup with Joe Willock in for the suspended Joelinton.

This is who impressive Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna has named for the hosts with local lad Leif Davis starting at left-back.

It’s vital Newcastle maintain their form from this past week and find some consistency. There’s no better time or place than today at Portman Road.

Comment #4As Man City go 2 down
I suppose neither manager or team.have ever been in a run like this
Was hoping for a draw maybe but Villa go above Man City and if we win we’ll be a point behind Man City and 2 behind Villa with them to come at SJP on Boxing Day
Even more important to get 3 points today

Comment #74 – 0 to the Toon. Will be keeping a close eye on Murphy after it was alleged he shy’s out of challenges/tackles – which was a surprise for me to read.

Comment #15Judging by some of the predictions on here Ipswich might as well not bother turning up today, or maybe they aren`t.
Nowt changes on here, we win a couple of games at home and suddenly we are going to put 4 or 5 goals past teams.
Well, experience following the Toon tells me to be a bit more cautious in my predictions saying as Ipswich won`t be rolling over to let us win as they need the points even more than us so ill go 2-1 Toon with Willock being one of the scorers.
I wouldn`t be surprised if we don`t win saying as we are the most inconsistent team in the PL.

It`s human nature for some fans to get carried away after a couple of good results, then you have the extreme opposite a couple of negative results and they want the manager sacked mate, some fans up and down the country can be very fickle WLtoon.
For my part i would be delighted with a scrappy 1-0 win mate.
