Hall, Joelinton, And Trippier Start Against Aston Villa

Newcastle will hope to continue their excellent form in a boxing day match against Aston Villa at St. James’ Park. It’s a clash in the upper half of the table between the two rising clubs.

The Magpies are on a tear winning three matches last week including the Carabao Cup quarterfinal. All victories were in convincing fashion having outscored their opponents 11-1.

This is the side Eddie Howe has selected for today’s fixture. It has two changes from the 4-0 win at Ipswich Town over the weekend with Joelinton back from suspension and Kieran Trippier in for Tino Livramento, who misses out through illness.

Here is the team Unai Emery has named for the visitors.

Howay The Lads!

These are the games where Murphy has to get some consistency

They are paying attention more than usual and he’s struggling to get involved

I think the Toon are employing the right tactics in this match, keep it tight and compact at the back, and hit Villa on the counter attack, wow just as i speak Duran is off, that will help 😀 😀

    “RED CARD – Jhon Duran
    Newcastle 1-0 Aston Villa

    Big moment!

Villa’s in-form striker is off. Fabian Schar looks to shepherd the ball out and clears it, Jhon Duran reacts to a challenge and looks to stamp on Schar as he hurdles the defender.

He makes contact with both feet – how deliberate that was we don’t know but he’s been sent off!”

Love to see the players piling in to defend their teammate from a dirty challenge.

There’s no questioning Joelinton’s commitment to his fellow players.

    “DISALLOWED GOAL
    Newcastle 1-0 Aston Villa

Newcastle have the ball in the net but that’s not going to stand – Alexander Isak does well to wriggle into the area and pull the ball back for Joelinton to hammer in.

But the ball was clearly out of play.”

We need to keep 11 players on the pitch this second half. That booking for big Joe was never a yellow, Rogers tried it on and got away with it. They’ll target Tripps and Joe for a second yellow.
Loving the intensity of our play and but for Martinez we would comfortable now.

Great all round play in first half although would feel better if we could create more from all our dominance.

We need to head down our left more as Cash is on a yellow and is struggling to handle Gordon who looks like he’s capable of creating everytime he has the ball

Whereas Digne and Torres are dealing with Murphy and Trippier are struggling to break down that side

As the goldfish crew are expectantly on the up end of their emotional rollercoaster, ill take one for the team to create a little of their negativity to bring the normal balance to the blog

If murphy doesn’t score in this game, I think he’s the worst player in the league, possibly country

Im giving Longstaff a 2/10 for his sub appearance so far, he’s look very lethargic and just doesn’t look into it. he also looked at his phone at one point

Im shocked that Howe hasn’t got a plan B for playing against 10 men, we should have scored atleast 5 by now since the sending off, poor

schar is making me eat my words. I thought he should’ve been dropped a few games ago. but he’s been very good today and in recent games.

Murphy hasn’t been his dynamic self. not sure he’s been told to sit back to protect trippier.

Newcastle are fifth as it stands. what an odd EPL season

If anyone said pre season that we’d be above City at this point(assuming we win) then we’d be expecting to be top. Funny auld season this year.
