Botman, Isak, And Tonali Start Against Wolves

Newcastle are pushing for their ninth win in a row in all competitions. Today they take on Wolves at St. James’ Park as they hope to eclipse Chelsea into fourth in the league table with a win.

Here is the side Eddie Howe has named with Isak and Botman back after a rest in the FA Cup. One concern is Fabian Schar is not in the squad though Emil Krafth returns after a lengthy spell out.

This is the team Vitor Pereira has selected for Wolves.

“I seem to remember Burn out striding Botman when chasing Martinelli…”

I think Burn had a big contribution in Martinelli missing that. M saw him galloping towards him, an intimidating thought, so he shot a stride or two too early. And two, the mere force of Burn’s advance sent the ball a couple of inches to the right*.

    * You’ve heard the theory: A butterfly flaps its wings in the Amazon, eventually causes a storm in the Philippines. Surely, then, Burn running towards anything can cause the minor effect I suggest.

Another welcome serving of common sense from mctoon for starters, followed by a generous main course in reality, laced with hope.
Finishing off with a pleasingly large dollop of
Cypriot theory for pudding makes for an excellent start to MATCHDAAAAY.

    Matchday

….and another tricky one but aren’t they all – just some more than others

I’m not going to dwell on this potential record winning run and simply try to.view game as a one off – Just Like Eddie

They are in their own potential record run of unbeaten games and of course Eddie hasn’t beaten his old club yet

Bournemouth are a good side ,very well managed and who are rarely if ever turned over these days

They have a couple of injuries – yet midweek managed a draw at Chelsea coming from behind late in game

They’ve drawn away at Forest, Villa, Fulham as well so stay in games

We all know that Semenyo will need to be contained but Kluivert is also a good player if not as eye catching

Defensively they are sound without any big names but some are drawing attention of other clubs yet they don’t have a lot of recent clean sheets

In some ways a score draw seems to be on the cards but I’m going for a tight win by one goal

It’s another tough game following hot on the heels of our last but at least we get a week until the next- it seems ages since we’ve had that space

Haaland signing for half a million pounds a week will not have helped contract talks with our superstar striker.

So it looks like there’s no doubt in that we’d equal a club record. I was pretty sure we were to equal it under Rafa but we lost against Blackburn after making too many changes before the QF in the league cup against Hull.

Stout hearted people needed to support the Toon today – not wimpering fannies/tarts shaking in their boots.

Need to be up for the fight, if it was WW1 you’d be the type refusing to go over the top – you disgrace. You would have been shot for your cowardice.

    Jail

I was at Grimsby match ( and at the away game when we won 2-0) and was behind goal as Dobbin scored late winner

I don’t remember occasion quite as this article in Grimsby fanzine does- maybe because I wasn’t too bothered at not reaching record (?) but we were below par on day

    Jail…It was 11 😉
We won our first 11 games in the 92/93 season before being beaten by the mighty Grimsby at St James’. Obviously that wasn’t too flight though.

Technically the run was 12 wins in a row as we won the last game of the season before too but in one season as far as I know it’s the 11. Certainly in modern times anyway.

The 11 (or 12)in a row was league games.
So we’ve still a way to go to match that.

Plus we had a 0-0 with Mansfield in the cup, not sure why we played a 2-2 away at Grimsby in September then at home in October?

    Jail/Javea

I think there’s some confusion about unbeaten runs and winning runs involving that Grimsby result

Looking at NUFC .coms extract I was at a lot of those home games on days before I got my season ticket

The Mansfield game was a 2 legged cup game which we won at St James’ and drew away.
That was in the days of heavy muddy pitches, heavy boots, heavier balls, no less matches and nae whinging about the amount of games. Bless!! 😀
