Burn, Dubravka, And Schar Start Against Southampton

Newcastle are hoping to bounce back after getting trounced 4-1 by Bournemouth at St. James’ Park. Last weekend may have been one match too many after a brutal winter schedule.

A full week of preparation will hopefully be the needed ingredient to bounce straight back with a victory. The Saints are likely heading back to the Championship with just six points amassed and a lengthy losing streak.

This is the team Eddie Howe has named for today’s clash. It has one change with Fabian Schar in for Sven Botman from last weekend. Nick Pope returns to the squad with Martin Dubravka deservedly keeping his place.

Here is who Ivan Juric has selected for the hosts.

Howay The Lads!

If anything the performance needs to be really good today. If not then last week was no blip

    AGM,

I’m sure I was on 7 points for the bingo prior to Saturday’s game against Bournemouth, and I just checked the scores and I’m still on 7. I’m not saying you are cheating but I won’t my point added on or I will contact Wor B enterprise for some compensation. 🙂

As usual, nothing written on the BBC match Preview regarding our match. Plenty written for the Liverpool and Manc City matches.
They’ll wait till the match starts before telling us about injuries, suspensions and other match facts. Ridiculous.

2m tall Nigerian striker, Paul Onuachu (34) has made 26 appearances for Southampton, mainly from the bench in 3 seasons. Last week he scored his only goal for the club, although he did get 15 on loan at Trabzonspor.

    BBC football live:

Newcastle make one change to the side that lost 4-1 against Bournemouth last week, with Sven Botman replaced by Fabian Schar.
Nick Pope is fit enough for the bench, while Miguel Almiron – subject of transfer interest from MLS side Atlanta United – is also among the substitutes on the south coast.

Newcastle XI: Dubravka, Livramento, Schar, Burn, Hall, Guimaraes, Tonali, Joelinton, Murphy, Isak, Gordon.
Subs: Pope, Trippier, Botman, Osula, Almiron, Kelly, Willock, Longstaff, Miley.

Mund from last thread…Aye Harrison looks a very decent player. We really need a few gems coming through the academy with the way PSR is stifling us. Hopefully in the next year or two we’ll have some following in Miley’s footsteps

If We show up today we should comfortably win this and keep ourselves in with a chance for european football next year. if we dont show up, or if southampton have really done their homework and take the game to us like Bournemouth did, then it ll be along day and doubt about this teams ability will start to creep in… so i m going with my usual overly optimistic scoreline of at least 5 nil, WE keep talking about giving some team a shalaking this season .Why not today??????
