Newcastle Unchanged Against Fulham At St. James’ Park

Newcastle are back at St. James’ Park today with Fulham on the docket. The lads course corrected at St. Mary’s last weekend after a horror showing at home against Bournemouth.

To look at the larger picture ahead of a crucial week for the club. The Magpies have won ten of the last eleven in all competitions and will be aiming for three more points for some momentum into the second leg of the league cup semifinals.

Unsurprisingly Eddie Howe has named an unchanged team.

Marco Silva has named the following team for the visitors.

Howay The Lads!

The All Ireland final last July, and the match parade of the teams before the game, my county Armagh have only won the All Ireland twice in history, in 2002 and 2024, and i have been so fortunate to be there on both occasions, there wasn`t a dry eye in the stadium when the final whistle sounded.

Perhaps i`ll still be around, to also see the Toon lifting some silverware before the grim reaper catches up with me mate 😀 :D,

Stupid question but what’s the reason behind building the Aviva when you already had Croke Park. I know it’s different sports but is that all. Bit like Wembley and Twickenham?

It does seem that there’s more information being leaked about plans for the new stadium to be built by pivoting into Leazes Park.
This maybe is preparing the ground for people to ‘buy into’ that pla

Perhaps the key deciding factor will be that we can continue to play at SJP with 52,000 crowds. Once the new stadium is mostly built that continues and only once the new Gallowgate (the old Leazes end) is completed is the extra 15,000 plus capacity realised.

The Georgian buildings behind the East Stand are not affected and are revitalised within a new Park area restored and repurposed as a gateway park to the new SJP.

Just hope our new site isn’t to closed in like Everton’s new build which looks like a sardine can squeezed into a old docks.

To be iconic the new SJP will sit higher on the skyline and need to have space surrounding it to showcase the building and provide great access and a memorable experience.

We will both be still around when we win something.
Need to focus on tomorrow now.
    That’s all that matters.
Just get into another final and keep knocking on the door until it opens.

Was thinking about what they call safe standing. If you have an area with 6K seats you should be able to get more in the same area with safe standing. I know the present ground rules don’t allow that, but that might change.

No not a stupid question at all mate, but yes a bit like Wembley and Twickenham as they are two different sporting organizations, as you know the Irish soccer football team share the Aviva stadium with the Irish rugby team, but when the old lansdowne road stadium was getting rebuilt, both the Irish soccer and Rugby teams played at Croke Park, as you have good knowledge of Rugby also, you will remember the historic Rugby game between Ireland v England in Croke Park in 2007 mate.

With the help of God we will all be around to see the Toon win some silverware, in fact it could be this year mate, if we can just get over this hurdle tomorrow night, then history beckons possibly.

On the terracing situation in GAA it is not safe standing, but just like it used to be like in football, also there is no segregation of fans in GAA, just as there isn`t in Rugby, and the craic between opposing fans is always fantastic mate.

I am naturally inclined to want the team to set up in a 550 formation, as they finished the previous match. However, it is a one off game, both teams start all square and a win is the best result. Just as long as they do not win by 3 goals clear.

    Matchday

…and though my confidence has evaporated somewhat over last month since first leg ( 2 home defeats in the manner they were delivered will do that to you) I am expecting a better focused performance

Arsenal will no doubt be boosted by their emphatic win over Man City ( apparently helped a little by Man City’s generous defending) but in a way that win will maybe have given them renewed belief they are still in title race and benefit us

We hopefully now face a team potentially distracted by fresh thoughts of a more important prize still within reach rather than a desperate one trying to recover lost ground in cup tie to win something this season

However it shouldn’t matter if we play as we did in first leg and do not surrender a 2 goal lead

First goal is more Important than usual in games against top sides but we’d all take nil nil I suppose but that would mean 90+ minutes of torture as we worried about late goals conceded and extra time and penalties

We have a good record against top sides this season bar Chelsea away and they will surely be up for this game more than it appeared on Saturday so will do whatever is required to progress to a Wembley final

I want a win but honestly will take a result that gets us there and despite that evaporating confidence I am still believing we are off to Wembley next month

    Very eloquent.
The focus on the first goal somewhat makes the remainder of the game redundant. Where as both teams have shown they are capable of coming from behind.

This was the latest article from the Shields Gazette. The first part we’ve seen before. However the later part and new images of a new Leazes Park stadium design seem to be new. Probably created by themselves for effect to create interest and definitely not ‘official’ images but worth a look.

    Jail

Good point about atmosphere in an evening KO as it did seem lacking on those 2 games

On Saturday whilst Eddie will have stressed not to think about tonight’s game that second half suggested to me that some were doing that

    NADJ

Yes both can come from behind but if we score first and go 3 up that would seriously weaken any resolve Arsenal have but if they do and it becomes 2-1 then team and crowd will be shaken a bit …….

Not the end of the world and crowd would undoubtedly rise to it and roar us on but hopefully we would stay focused and don’t become cavalier and open at back

Arsenal have scored 3 or more away ( with their currently missing strikers of course) and their spirits will be better after Sunday than they would have been immediately following that defeat to us

Our collective psyche is so scarred ( and Bournemouth and Fulham dont help) that I think that we worry about a game where we’ve justifiably taken a 2 goal lead in a difficult away leg and now face them at home where we’ve won 2 out of last 3 against them and were a bit unlucky in the 2-0 defeat 2 seasons back

In an odd way I wouldn’t mind 0-0 for most of match before a first goal if there were one

Although I am usually desperate for an early goal for us they probably will worry more in these circumstances – although I am sure Arteta will have stressed patience ( him being a collected and calm personality)

OK it’s by no means a given but surely we want Wembley more and know that we need to put down a marker that we have a first team that can win a trophy

    Massive game tonight…

Get knocked out and its three home defeats on the trot, cup final chance gone and 6pts shy of where we wanted to be in the Prem with City, Lpool and NF up next.

Get through to the final and the spirit and atmosphere around the team and fans will go up another gear.

In some ways tonight’s game reminds me of my feeling before the home match against Man U when we were top of the Prem. Win, and the title was almost certainly ours, lose and all bets were off.

    We lost that game…

We HAVE to get through tonight.

I’ll be coming up on the train later today.
We have to approach the game as a standalone match that we have to win. Any attempt to hold on and use our 2 goal lead will backfire. Has to be full on high octane. My only worry is we have no cover for our frontline tonight, apart from Osula,

Not worried about tonight, expecting a big performance and Arsenal are the team that need to show up and get the goals.

They need to go for it.

Which means they will be exposed on the break, something we have the players to take full advantage of.

We can take our time, be patient and know we don’t need to push for a goal. But we can be patient and strike when the moment is right.

Atmosphere should be amazing, team will want to put in a performance and we are also in the driving seat to conduct the game how we want.

Of course anything can happen, but i’m feeling confident more than I am worried/concerned.

Not suggesting we purely sit back and hope to defend well, then hit them on the counter. Far from it.

Just mean we can be very smart and measured. Don’t need to go all out attack in numbers when pushing forward, to leave ourselves short at the back. Don’t need to press with too many numbers so that if they pass through us, they are through sprinting down on our goal, but can choose are moments.

If any set of fans and team should be worried about tonight. It’s Arsenal and their fans.

They have to come and perform. They need the goals. They need to stop us scoring. They need to get the balance absolutely spot on and be dangerous without over-committing.

Think it’ll be a really interesting game, but am not scared or anxious at all so far.

Also think Tonali is the perfect player to have for games like this.

Calm, composed, natural leader, been in huge games before and should provide a calming presence in the middle.

In a way i’m slightly relieved it looks like Joelinton will miss out. Been out of form, clumsy on the ball and a bit wreckless in challenges. Could easily have gone wrong tonight and seen red or tried to do too much/be too physical and lose the ball in a bad spot.

Hope Bruno doesn’t try to buy free kicks in our own half too much tonight either. Refs definitely seem to not be buying it much anymore.

Morning all, ive put a holiday in for tonight`s game, i think we will just about crawl over the line, well here`s hoping.
A heavy defeat could be on the cards if we aren`t on our game and could kill our season but i think the crowd will be the twelfth man and will see us through.

So a new stadium plan was leaked yesterday and i must say it looks very doable and everything in the article makes total sense.
Still in the city centre with easy accessibility for fans from every direction , even the Leazes lake remains in tact 🙂
Problem is, it could be just another BS rumour with no real foundation so…..

I think 70k is about right if that is the aim, with more corporate areas making lots of money for the club , along with good sponsorship deals.
Problem is it could take 7-8 yrs to complete .
I hope i am still around to see it.

I prefer the new build myself, it depends if the club wants it built quick really, they could hire 4 buildings construction which could have it up and running within 2 years, ive seen some fantastic buildings in saudi arabia, buildings took my breath away marble the whole nine yards as to say, it can be done its not as though they havent done it before plus they also have the reubens who are builders themselves look at the new tax department going up and there also doing the dwp building as well I think

Aye with PIF funding/backing and with Reubens background, i’d be amazed if it takes as long as is being quoted in that article/exclusive.

Especially with the extra revenue it’d generate, i’d imagine they’d want it built in a much much shorter timeframe.
