Pope, Tonali, And Wilson Start At Liverpool

Newcastle downed third-placed Nottingham Forest on Sunday at St. James’ Park but now face an even tougher test; a trip to league leaders Liverpool, who look destined to end Manchester City’s stranglehold on the division.

The Reds are a test Newcastle have failed to pass in recent history. It’ll take a top performance to get anything from tonight’s fixture.

This is the team Eddie Howe has named featuring two changes from the weekend. Alexander Isak misses out with a groin problem.

Arne Slot has selected the following lineup for the hosts.

Howay The Lads!

I think it was a wise decision to rest Alexander Isac for this game if there’s a slight doubt about his fitness.

Plenty more games on the horizon and if Callum can stay fit he’s certainly capable of scoring a goal or three!

NUFC last won at Anfield on 23 April 1994 winning by 2-0 with goals from Peter Beardsley and Andy Cole. With no Isak, can’t see that stat changing this evening.

Perhaps that’s asking a lot Bill but I still recon Wilson can produce the goods if he can stay fit.

Fingers crossed – and everything else!

I reckon for tonight Isac is being wrapped up in cotton wool, and being kept fit for the final.

    I suspect

Before the match: EH says to Wilson, we know what you can do.
During the game: EH says to Osula, show us what you can do. (Wilson won’t see though 90 mins)

It’s a good opportunity for the pair of them for differing reasons

My biggest concern lies with the back line. They’re in for a tough night.

IF Isak is legitimately injured, then he gets rested. It happens and will be tough to play without him but needs must.

But if he is being protected and saved for the cup final then that is massively disappointing. Looking ahead in sports often bites you in the end.

Normally i would love to see Nottingham Forest hammer Arsenal tonight, but under the circumstances an Arsenal win is more advantages for the Toon.

My thinking is holding Isak back tonight is all about the cup final….Eddie hiding his ace up his sleave!

If Isak has some sort of knock that could develop into something serious if not managed carefully, then it is sensible to rest him. Let’s hope that’s all it is.

Liverpool finding too much space in between our defence and midfield. Need to close off those passes. Glad Eddie listened to me and left Isak out. Cunning plan. How the feck did they score that
