Newcastle downed third-placed Nottingham Forest on Sunday at St. James’ Park but now face an even tougher test; a trip to league leaders Liverpool, who look destined to end Manchester City’s stranglehold on the division.
The Reds are a test Newcastle have failed to pass in recent history. It’ll take a top performance to get anything from tonight’s fixture.
This is the team Eddie Howe has named featuring two changes from the weekend. Alexander Isak misses out with a groin problem.

Shame on Sanusi however I don’t think he was anywhere near ready for the first team. A lad with lots of talent and great potential but needs more time.

You’re a funny guy you like
You talk about us needing a Dutch/Spanish coach to teach tiki taka to the players
Yet recently you suggested Howe should use pump it up to Burn tactics

Comment #404Rotunda talks about Howe making head scratching decisions BUT I guarantee you put any coach in charge and after a while, he would say exactly the same, I think he would say the same about any coach you put in charge like he has done with every coach we have ever had while I viewed this blog
beyond Rotunda’s victim world, even Guardiola has been accused of making head scratching decisions like those two cup finals when he tried new tactics and failed
It’s funny he claims me and other are at some extreme of supporting Howe, yet I said in post the other day that im sure there are plenty of better managers out there (how many of them would take a job here is whole different argument)
All I try to educate him and others with is to just ease back on the arrogance and try not to assume you know more than than a professional at the top levels of high pressure high money sport/business. By saying he’s making head scratching decisions is stating you know better than him, it’s that simple

“It was the first one when we were actually going for the title. Kev slumped over the hoardings.
The second time we were just contenders but not outright favourites. I thought we were nailed on first time to win but did not think we would win title second time.
I remember that Jackie fella who was always on Sky tv as the last known survivor of the 1927 fans. It’s like WW1 andWW2 vets with us. Well the WW1 fans are all deeed and the 1955 living fans are nearly as rare as WW2 vets.
It’s a blooming disgrace”
I was around at the time but was living in West Yorkshire. So sadly I didn’t fully appreciate the events of the early fifties. I was well & truly hooked on NUFC by the time the Fairs Cup came round! The only meaningful prize I’ve seen the lads win!

Comment #409Haven`t been on for a few days as my mother was rushed into hospital but it looks as though she is going to be ok, touch wood.
I wasn`t bothered or surprised about the result on Wednesday, it was a free hit imo, a game we were expected to lose.
Whoever Howe played wouldn`t of made that much difference really.
A 2-0 defeat is a run of the mill scoreline, no disgrace.
I think we will see a totally different Newcastle United in the final, i think everything seems to be pointing to most of our players being fit for that game including Isak, the game changer.
As for tomorrows game im afraid a loss is on the cards, yet another game where we don`t play well with the distraction of the final just 2 weeks away, i can`t see many players putting the boot in, and Brighton are playing well, we aren`t.
It would be great if we are still in two cups come the middle of March, i just can`t see it.

I know you don’t like Bruno because he’s… slow, but do consider that the currently most successful team and coach in England rate him. Can’t be that bad:
“Bruno Guimaraes is on Manchester City’s shortlist, but luring him away from Newcastle’s…”
For me, he’s the single biggest reason this team has been transformed, without underestimating the impact of the likes of Gordon, Isak, Eddie, Pope, Burn, Tonali Trip.
He holds the ball better than ANY player in the history of the club (despite the dallying!), hence he’s consistently the most fouled in the PL. He’s the central reason we’ve gone from 29 to 59% possession.

You’ve done better than me in 69. I went to all home games in Europe and missed the final. In a coma for two weeks.
I woke up thinking I might get to the game. It was played the week before.
I’ve never seen them win phook all except Texaco. I don’t count promotions.
For such a big club it’s a scandal.
I’ve reached a stage where I no longer expect any silverware. So nobody can accuse me of being entitled

So sorry to hear that unfortunate news about your Mother mate, but it`s encouraging to hear it appears she is going to be ok, happy days.
On the football front, there seems to be a perception or school of thought that some players are holding back with the League Cup on the horizon WLtoon!!
I don`t buy into that sort of thinking mate, we simply can`t put all our eggs in one basket mate, we really need to approach the final on the back of a few decent results, as football is not like a water tap, where you can turn your form on and off my friend.

We certainly know how to turn it off.
Lot harder to turn it on.
It’s shaping up like a mirror of two years ago.
And we were not that clever in the final. Like you say, it’s really hard to turn it off for weeks and then turn it on for one game

Afternoon mate, it would be great if we could get a few positive results before we face Liverpool in the final, it would really help our confidence and self belief plus giving the players trust in their own abilities, for what it`s worth i genuinely don`t think the result against Liverpool on wednesday will have any bearing when it comes to the final Jimiley. If we are at full strength and play to our very best potential, i cartainly think we are in with a great chance of lifting the cup mate.

It’s 9 aside and yea it’s all official with referees etc rules are the same as professional football. We started doing offsides this season for the first time From under5s to under10s there’s no league winners just divisions. The higher the division the better the quality. Next year when it’s 11 aside it will be a real league format with placements, promotions, relegations and a league winner and also bloody fines for any bookings the players receive. Gunna get a few of them 😉

I was also in Hospital (Tynemouth Infirmary) early ‘69 and was unable to get to the Setubul game. But a weird thing happened I dreamt about the game beforehand and Newcastle won 5 – 1 in the snow. When I woke up I told the other lads about my dream and their response was “fine chance”
Anyway about noon it started to snow and they said “well at least you got the snow right” anyway to cut a long story short we won 5 – 1 and they were all saying you should have put money on that! You would have got good odds on score. The main thing is we won and progressed to the next round. I recently gave my ‘69 final (home game) programme to Elliot Anderson’s paternal Grandma to pass on to him. His maternal Granddad is no other than Geoff Allen who played for us at the time of that cup win. It was tragic such a gifted player had to end his playing days through injury. 🙁

Comment #440Cunha is such a class player he would be another one like Mbuemo who would basically be a 2 in 1 player in that they can play up front but also in a position we really need
Cunha I’ve seen him excel at no 10 , no 8, out wide and up front he’s like a Joelinton but with end product in spades
Shame Wolves paid so much for him but there’s rumours of a release clause in his deal this summer I’m sure I read
