Barnes, Isak, And Pope Start At West Ham

After a troubling run, Newcastle look to take a giant step at West Ham this evening. The Magpies were knocked out of the FA Cup last weekend at home to Brighton and have dropped to ninth in the league table.

However, a win at West Ham will see Newcastle jump to sixth in the table and just two points off fourth-placed Chelsea. Though on recent form, a brave few will be banking on three points in East London today.

Nevertheless, here is the team Eddie Howe has named for this potentially critical clash.

Pope, Trippier, Schar, Burn, Livramento, Bruno (C), Joelinton, Tonali, Murphy, Barnes, Isak

This is who Graham Potter has selected for the Hammers.

Areola, Wan-Bissaka, Todibo, Kilman, Cresswell, Scarles, Alvarez, Ward-Prowse, Soucek, Bowen (C), Kudus.

Howay The Lads!

Yes Dortmund get 80k, but as much as we know Tyneside is mad about football and Newcastle is a one club city, the toon is not Dortmund. Size of city etc.

    Dortmund.
Wider population of about 5 million.
1.5 million adults in Tyne and Wear. 300K of those support them down the road.
Add half of Durham. Still only makes it up to 1.5 million.

On that basis we did well to get 50K for nearly all games in the Championship, but we did.

North of us over the border. Will never have a Prem team. How many would come down regularly for games. 1 1/2 hours on train from Edinburgh.
Worth bearing in mind. Hotel and Match Ticket packages. Club working with the City to bring in money/business etc.

Remember. We are not in the North. We are in the midlands. The centre of the island that is Britain is near Hexham.

Good morning all, well that`s my last shift done until Monday so i can enjoy the build up to the final without any distractions, and boy am i going to enjoy it.
Sunday especially is going to be off the scale

Just been reading about the new stadium and i think 65k is about right, i thought maybe 70k would be the owners preference but any more than that and i think it would of been too big to fill every game, including cup matches.
A brand new stadium at a cost of well over a billion tells me the Saudi`s are here for the long term, and the announcement is really assuring news if you were like me, a bit unsure if their real long term commitment.
I am a very content Geordie this morning hoping that in less than 72 hours time i will eventually be celebrating a long awaited cup win in a final.

Man if Hall wasn’t injured, that’d be 4 players called up to the England squad. Have we had that before?

Delighted for Burn, he deserved a call up the season we finished 4th, so i’m glad Tuchel has rewarded his consistent performances over the last few seasons.

Interesting comments about ASM. There were rumours of this kind of thing when he was at Nice as well, he maybe has an attitude when a manager challenges him or doesn’t let him have all his own way. Because lets face it, Bruce essentially built the entire squad around just giving the ball to him and hoping he can produce something. With Bruces ‘training’ being widely criticised as lazy and poor as well, I doubt he ever challenged or pushed ASM.

All just speculation on my behalf and I loved ASM when he was here, as never gave a hint of bad attitude, but there’s no smoke without fire and this sounds similar to previous in his career.

Getting really excited for Sunday now, I can’t see the players doing anything less than being right up for it and battling for everything with high intensity.

Expecting a really full blooded performance and can see our midfield 3 getting into Liverpools faces and being super combative.

Is a shame we will be without Gordons relentless pressing, as he really leads from the front in that aspect and sets the tone early.

But I think we’re going to be so full of fight and energy that our fans are going to be absolutely deafening in cheering the lads on.

    I can’t bloody wait!

I think it’s gonna be a new build but it’s still just the waiting game at the moment.

I’m wondering whether the club are holding back on an announcement on their stadium plans until after the final. Might think it could overshadow the match, but I think it would give the club, players, fans and wider region a real boost.

    On the new stadium capacity

I don’t know how accurate this 65k report is but I think it’s a tad light if we are trying to maximise revenue!
Our owners have their fingers in all sorts ie boxing, concerts etc so are in a perfect position to make use of a multi use stadium!
It’s a tough call of do you go large in the expectation of more demand when the club becomes more successful against what we can fill now!
Purely out of interest what size stadium do you guys & gals think we could fill right now for our home games week in week out!

I think 65k is about right. Will sell it out consistently and it’ll be a proper state of the art, all modern and no expenses spared stadium. Which no doubt will be suitable for all kinds of events, from concerts, massive corporate events, possibly the odd american football game here and there and conventions. Imagine it’ll be used as a UK base for PIF to host all their corporate events and meet clients. No doubt will generate heaps of extra revenue through the new multiple uses and loads of expensive boxes/hospitality that PIF will use to host clients in and sell to wealthy partners/friends.

Probably start at 65k and see how regularly it sells out with demand for extra tickets, then will have scope to increase capacity down the line if data shows we will sell out at 70k, then 75k, then 80k etc etc over the years.

65,000 about right saying the size of the population of the city and surrounding areas.
13,000 more seats to fill would mean NUFC would have to be top of their game nearly every game to fill it . As soon as we lose our way then the crowds will drop off and revenue will fall off.
Nowt worse than a half filled stadium

Whilst a 65K ground would be great – I think I’m right in thinking our record attendance for SJP is 68K when standing was permitted.

    Just checked – it’s 68386 against Chelsea in 1930 – I wasn’t around then! 🙂

In a way it would be rather good for a new ground to take 69000 and create a new record.

I agree with what you say for the here & now but the “rumour “yesterday is the club is “allegedly “ modelling the stadium on the Allegiant stadium!
Looking at that it would be hard to increase the capacity without making the the overall stadium shape look lopsided again (unless they went sub-terrain) like Madrid!
IMO the last thing we would want is to close stands for a season or 2 while we extend,it’s definitely a tricky balancing act & I’d imagine if we asked fans what the ideal capacity would be the overall answers would be with a range of 20k!
Personally I think 70k is needed if the club does become a regular champions league team & I believe we could fill 60k right where we are now (purely going off ballot numbers)!
The club has all the true figures so I’m confident they will make the correct decision!

Saratoga makes a strong point about how areas of Britain are geographically identified.

If we consider the geography of England, Newcastle is north and imagining lines drawn parallel with the Scottish border, then the likes of Liverpool and Manchester would be in the midlands with Birmingham and others, the sarf!

Nowt worse than having to fix a leaky kitchen sink when you have just finished night shift, my plans for the weekend will be a tad delayed

If the new stadium is 65k then it will be the 3rd biggest club ground in England so i cannot see it being a problem.
Spurs , Liverpool , Arsenal and Man city seem to be happy with their stadium capacities being less than that so making enough money on a match day should not be a problem.

It’s tricky isn’t it as I guess we can only go off rumours at the moment until the club announce it, with a view of the design! Even if it is based on the Allegiant stadium though, that can change its capacity from 65k to 71k for different events, so even with that design, they’re capable of extending. Imagine any stadium design will have future capacity extensions involved 🙂 It’ll be the new home for the forseeable future, so they’ll take everything in account no doubt!

Exciting to see what the actual design is going to be when the club make an official announcement 🙂

New stadium is the right option but it’s only 65k.
    3k more than extended sjp??
Eales wants the stadium full for every game.
Well I want everybody who wants a ticket to get a ticket. 65k means people will be locked out again.
How are we supposed to compete with 100 k Man U and 80k Gunners?
I would like 75k but 70k would be a compromise.
A Toon team genuinely competing got the title would get 75k every home game in league and CL. Keegan had 30k on a waiting list for seasons tickets.
OK we may not get 75k for early rounds of cups but so what?
This current team would not get 75 or even 70 k every game but we need to think about a Toon team genuinely competing for the title and CL titles. Think ahead. Why man, they will be busting the doors down at 75knever mind 70.
Eales needs to think big not small. 65k does not compete with 100k. Every fan deserves the right to watch the team and now is the one chance to get it right

To make the stadium bigger from 65 to 70 or 75 is not the big a deal cost wise. So why not go for the bigger option. A few empty seats now and again? So what. Madrid and Barca do not sell out every week. It does not hold them back. Packed to the rafters for many games

What’s the obsession with having scope for expanding a new-build 65k stadium? If considtent 65k attendances.

Bearing in mind that we only play 20 EPL games at home a season plus of course cup, ladies, reserve team games and if attendances are such that 65k max is under capacity, them so be it – fan zones are always an option.

The new Manchester United stadium is frankly dumb as all hell.

Already £1bn in debt, no guarantee that the club is going to regain it’s dominance, could quite easily continue to struggle for years to come, fans are already annoyed at the way the club is being run including ripping fans off over tickets, which will probably increase again to help pay for the stadium and they haven’t even properly worked out how to pay for it yet.

    Could be a disaster.

Think we’re continuing to go about everything very logically and sensibly. New state of the art stadium with a very achievable capacity to sell out each week, regardless of how the club progresses in terms of trophies etc, club doesn’t have pre-existing debt to worry about on top of a huge stadium project, fans are realtively happy with the current running of the club…. see no issues to be honest.
