Barnes, Isak, And Pope Start At West Ham

After a troubling run, Newcastle look to take a giant step at West Ham this evening. The Magpies were knocked out of the FA Cup last weekend at home to Brighton and have dropped to ninth in the league table.

However, a win at West Ham will see Newcastle jump to sixth in the table and just two points off fourth-placed Chelsea. Though on recent form, a brave few will be banking on three points in East London today.

Nevertheless, here is the team Eddie Howe has named for this potentially critical clash.

Pope, Trippier, Schar, Burn, Livramento, Bruno (C), Joelinton, Tonali, Murphy, Barnes, Isak

This is who Graham Potter has selected for the Hammers.

Areola, Wan-Bissaka, Todibo, Kilman, Cresswell, Scarles, Alvarez, Ward-Prowse, Soucek, Bowen (C), Kudus.

Howay The Lads!

It’s no the wonder the players go in to games nervous when half the fan base are flapping before a ball is even kicked.

I am starting to focus my mind on the final. Was thinking it might be a good idea to go into a self induced coma, to be woken up once it’s all done and dusted. Then check my phone for scores. Or I could hit the Italian in Soho, have loads of good food, gallons of vino, and arrive at Wembley well anaesthetised!

I thought he was an out and out CF but seen he’s a RW as well, could be a much cheaper Mbuemo.

    Hacks in overdrive.
    First Gordon, then Isak.
Now Arsenal, Liverpool and Barcelona all want Bruno.

    Pathetic little minded gossips.
How about Rice to Manu, Mcquire to Liverpool and Bowen to Arenal ?

The press bias is because the vast number of footy fans who buy their rags support teams in London and the North West. The north east unfortunately is poorly represented at national media level. It will only change when we win something and the general population start to be interested in us again. We had it with the entertainers and with sir Bobby but little since. Our time will come.

If we start winning things all this press bias against the Toon will stop. Most annoying all the crap you read that Arsenal/Man U / Liverpool are going to buy Isak and other players -contact made etc etc.
I’m sure it only exists to try and sow disharmony into North East football/Newcastle United.
    It is incessant. Most annoying.

Liverpool potential players missing from cup final:
    Konate, defender – minor doubt
Alexander-Arnold, full back – major doubt
    Gomez, defender – out
    Bradley, full back – out
    Morton, midfield – out

Apparently in the cup games, Allison has stood aside for Kelleher

The reason I’m asking about Delap is I’ve seen us linked a few times now for a summer move. Bent and Goldstein jokingly commented on that means Isak is going to Man U with Bent claiming Arsenal. Then I remembered seeing he was also a right winger as well, from what I’ve seen of him he looks more suited to an out and out CF, but was wondering if anyone knew if he was just as good at RW.

I think (according to transfermarkt) he’s only played right wing 6 times, comapred to center forward 125 times. Which suggests he’s very much an out and out center forward.

Like you, I still think our priority will be a right sided attacker who can play center forward when needed. So would be surprised if Delap was a target.

Very good young player though, so would be great rotation and back up to Isak. Maybe then use Osula more as that right sided attacker.

We’ve got six out of our ten games at home, if we’re 3-0 up in any of them don’t we think that Osula should get on ahead of Wilson, he’s not getting in to that 100 club with us and please Gawd not a contract extension. What is the point of giving him minutes.

My dream for the final – although I don’t know if my heart could take it – would be to beat Liverpool 4-3 to avenge those two awful defeats, especially the first one.

But, I’d gladly take having 20% possession and winning it with a Lpool own goal or Isak penalty in the last minute of added time.

In this game winning is all that matters… performance is way way behind.

Really starting to get wound up now for the game.

Leaving tomorrow and staying at my brother’s overnight near Barnsley and then down to London staying at my cousin’s for two nights. Drop the car off then tube straight into Covent Garden to meet up with friends and Mag supporters.

To all those from the blog going down have a safe journey, a great time, do the Geordies proud with your behaviour and let’s pray that our dream comes true and we finally win and lift a cup.

What a night that will be in London and back in the Toon if we do it.

No London for me this year, didn’t get lucky in the ballot and going down next month for the marathon, Wimbledon in July and Krakow in May, so no desire to go forking out for club Wembley tickets again. Going to watch it in the house with the family.

If we were to lose Isak this summer (not saying we will) Delap would be an exciting replacement… feel like he’s heir apparent to Kane. He’s nothing like as good as Isak and never will be, but it’s not realistic to expect Isak to spend his entire career with us. You could even see Real selling Vini Jr, moving Mbappe to the left and bringing Isak in at number 9, he’s that good.

On Wilson, it looks like Eddie is trying to get him up to speed for the run in. Having a fit(ish) Wilson coming on for Isak for the last 15 would be unreal. I hope he finds some form but he’s understandably anxious about injury and seems to be jogging around rather than throwing himself about like he used to. He’s looked positively geriatric in his last few outings.

His case to be included over Osula looks increasingly weak.

Draper vs Alcaraz and Emma vs Swiatek would be a canny day.

I’m all for giving the keeper a better chance in penalties, so that they’re less important.

For example, move the ball back to the D. Allow the keeper to make one step forward. Find ways to make the odds 50/50 or less, preferably.

However, this double kick thing should be scrapped. I know Mitro did it against us and his penalty was cancelled. 99.9% it’s accidental. I didn’t watch the Atletico one, but I’m guessing it’s the same.

Have you ever double hit the ball, in the same forward motion, playing golf? Well, now it’s not a penalty. It’s accidental, that’s why.
