Cup Winners Newcastle Unchanged Against Brentford At St. James’ Park

Eddie Howe’s Carabao Cup winning Mags return to action today with a clash against Brentford at St. James’ Park. It’s been over two weeks since the lads captured a domestic trophy for the first time in seventy years.

The hopes are the jubilation can continue with a victory against the Bees in an important league fixture. There is still work to do this term to capture a Champions League place. A win today would thrust Newcastle into the coveted top four.

Here is the team Eddie Howe has named which is unchanged from the final.

This is who Thomas Frank sends out for the visitors.

Howay The Lads!

    As I said earlier:

As Mark Twain once, reportedly, said “The reports of the blogs demise are greatly exaggerated.” ?

A difficult match to call as I think Brentford have a good away record and hit you on the break with pace. Just the sort of team we don’t like playing.
If the Liverpool or Arsenal team performs tonight then we will win comfortably.
But will it? Just because we have won the cup it does not mean we will suddenly become consistent.
I hope their brains are not still full of beer.
This game will tell us how we will go from here.
If the lads are at it tonight it will mean they are focused on CL place and they could go on a run. The reverse applies if they are off it.
The momentum should mean we win tonight and I will go with 2 1 win.
You can tell in 5 minutes how they will play. After saying we would lose to Liverpool, I knew after 5 minutes we should win. First to second balls makes a massive difference.
CL place would be icing on cake but I am happy enough with cup win. Let’s hope the lads have more ambition

I think it’s going to have to be a case of, they score two, we’ll score three.

There’s bound to be goals for both sides. A proper gun-slinging contest.

No easy (or very few) games in the EPL. Will we be at the races tonight, or still in party mode after the cup win and weekend celebrations?

A run of games where we should hopefully pick up maximum points. Consistency will be key as to who finishes top 4/5.

Confidence will be high, but don’t be over confident and expect Brentford to roll over for us.

We’re doing okay until the final pass or finish.

I just hope those rumours of Isak going to Liverpool aren’t true. I’d hate to lose him to anybody, but to Barca or Real Madrid wouldn’t be the end of the world, but to Liverpool or another EPL club would be heart breaking.

    Get in

We got lucky there with the time, the ref gave emway too much added time for the var check. I didn’t think we’d get that last attack, but get in lovely cross.

When you think about it, he was our worst player, even not giving Barnes a sitter of a goal. Although CFs do that 😉

Anyway, he gets his goal, as per usual. Still, most credit surely to the master of the assist.

The perfect time to score also, hopefully that will stimulate the lads even more for the second half, another goal for the Toon should seal the deal you would imagine.
