Barnes, Burn, And Tonali Start At Leicester City

Newcastle have a golden opportunity to continue their momentum with a trip to 19th-placed Leicester City tonight. The lads can climb back to fifth place with a victory while having a match in hand on their competitors.

Eddie Howe has kept the same lineup that downed Brentford last week.

This is the team Foxes boss Ruud van Nistelrooy has named.

Howay The Lads!

I expected more, especially in the second half, but how can you complain when you win 0-3 away against any pl side?

Getting the victory and the valuable 3 points tonight was all that mattered tonight, but that match wont live long in the memory to be honest, a real endurance test if the truth be told, i think Leicester sucked us down the their level.

    Job done.

About as easy of a match you’ll ever likely see.

Don’t think we ever needed to find a gear at all in that match!

Yes we could have maybe pushed and got much, but seems clear to me that the second half, we were more focused on not exerting ourselves and trying not to get any silly injuries in a game already well won.

As for Osula, this is why he hasn’t played much. He looks nowhere near ready and hasn’t done at any point we’ve seen him. He played well in the cup against League one opposition. Anytime he’s played against Premier League opposition for us, he’s looked nowhere near ready.

There’s a player there, but christ he needs a LOT of work before he’s ready to have run outs for us regularly in the league.

Looks like containment was the name of the game 2nd half. But if you put two attackers on against a poor three man defence you need to feed them, we didn’t as our midfield slowed down with changes.

I’m going to stand up for Osula here. Yes, he’s raw, but he’s hardly played at all. He comes on, wants to impress, overdoes it.

Not saying he’ll make it but to judge him on this small a sample?

Anyway, good night folks. Let’s not be… entitled, a big three points, joint fourth!

We really need to win on sunday, dropping points against that lot is really not an optain, by hook or by crook or the dark arts, we really need to put them to the sword in that particular fixture.

That was simply a training knock about in that second half.
How the football world has changed so quickly. A few seasons ago Bruce was trying to do a loan deal for that Leicester hacker Hamza Choudhury and couldn’t get it over the line on the final day of the transfer window, thank goodness.
Now Leicester are nowhere near our level, have loan players in their team and are about to be relegated.

Osula is still only young (21) and EH and JT seem to rate so hopefully they can bring him on. It wasn’t what he did with the ball for me but his awareness and pressing/positioning. I’m sure they’re working on it.

Not just based on tonight or his other brief appearences, I understand the trying hard to impress, but just his overall game and signs show he’s got a long way to develop still.

Even against Birmingham, he had loads of loose passes, heavy touches, loose dribbling with the ball, running out of position to chase the ball when he should stay and keep shape etc. Things that premier league opposition would have punished.

I’m not saying he won’t make it and maybe some more game time could help, but at the moment he is a long long way from getting more game time in my opinion.

I was greedy as 2nd half I wanted to threaten Chelsea’s GD and had visions of the 7-1 against them all those years ago under KK.
Still 3 points was vital and mission accomplished.

That Schar ”assist” for Murphy will live in the memory. Thought Murphy had initially over run it with a poor touch but thankfully not and his amazing stats for this season continue. Magic, I’m sure the Murphy bros could have played for Ireland.

Bit of a dilemma with our striker subs. Wilson sadly looks like his race is run at this level as he’s contributed nothing really every time he’s come on. Osula looks like he’s trying too hard to impress in his limited minutes and looks a bit wild.

Poor teams have a tendency to pull you down to their level mate, but at this stage of the season results are clearly more important than performances, 3 points in the bag, objective successfully negotiated.

Didn’t think we were that good – far too many sloppy passes.
Livramento my man of the match
    Back four played well
    Tonali, Joelinton decent games
    Barnes and Murphy decent games
    Bruno and Isak poor
Poor ok hadn’t much to do

I dont know, I hope I’m wrong but I can’t see us getting up to unimpressive level yet again. I worry the performance will be more of the same this time. And manure can play well when they want to. They’re very hard to get many goals against atm so 1 goal is probably going to win it, either way.

Eddie brings them on and there is nothing there.
Wilson is just finished, Offers nothing.
    Longy is not good enough.
Miley is still young and can make it but not yet.

    Perhaps I should have put a tenner on a 3 – 0 win eh?

Ah well I’ll take the win and be glad about it!

    Job done first half

    Sloppy 2cnd half at times

8 games to go and it’s about points, yes I know good performances build up but that was game management in 3rd gear

Harder games to follow and we should be up for those despite that mediocre 2cnd half as we basically coasted

I just checked it out about Jacob Murphy being eligible to play for Ireland mate, his father is from Nigeria, and his Mother from Ireland, so yes he is indeed eligible to play for Ireland or Nigeria as he has dual nationality, it`s not like Ireland wouldn`t need him as we are not exactly blessed with quality players marra.

That game went as I envisaged.
    I had us winning a poor game 2 0.
Leicester were there for the taking. We could have hit them for at least 6.
I geared Isak was not fully fit and his performance has reinforced my fears.
I thought Eddie would bring the subs on and they would kill any aspiration as they are not good enough.
Our subs can close a game down to defend a lead but are no way good enough to chase a game
