Newcastle play their match in hand tonight at St. James’ Park against Crystal Palace. The lads are on a roll with five straight wins including their first capture of domestic trophy in 70 years.
Again the club will have to find victory without Eddie Howe, who is still recovering from pneumonia. Jason Tindall and Graeme Jones will again take the helm with hopes of three more precious points. A result today and Newcastle jump Nottingham Forest into third.
The players and staff have to be commended for their performances of late. They’ve not let the historic cup title affect the run for Champions League football. Today, Newcastle can make a giant step to punch their ticket back into Europe.
Some exciting news has been reported this week that Newcastle have won the race for top Spanish youngster Antonio Cordero. The 18-year-old is already a regular for Malaga in the Spanish second division. The Magpies fended of Barcelona and Real Madrid for his signature.
Howay The Lads!
Unfortunately, I will missed this match due to a prior commitment so won’t be able to put out the teams.

Comment #3Jacob Murphy has scored seven goals and assisted eight in his last 17 top-flight appearances.
He is the first Newcastle player to reach 10 assists in the Premier League via open play since Laurent Robert’s 11 in 2001-02

Interesting stuff?
How so RW is the one position we’ve never addressed since TO and have also let Miggy go
Murphys recent ( and welcome ) form doesn’t change that in the same way that Miggys purple patch didn’t
Only question is what level of ” upgrade ” do we aim for
Budget is clearly a factor but also which is the key position we look to spend most on
Arguably CB with likes of Huysen being linked at 50 M could be prime position to cover which could make likes Mbuemo priced out of our range depending on what we have left and at least a goalkeeper and striker to also come in
New arrival Corderia is a RW I understand but isn’t anywhere near first team level
Good as Murphy has been he can be off his game and we need a player to directly challenge for next season – who might depend on what we have earmarked to spend on position

I think having a proper wide man on the right opens up the pitch for us so much more than having 2 wingers who cut inside
Teams aren’t prepared for Murphy who is capable of lovely 1st time crosses its like teams are expecting him to lay it off to Trippier but he doesn’t need to that extra second or 2 in decision making gives us a big advantage
Also him staying wide opens the pitch up and it allows the likes of Barnes to drift into centre forward positions for his goal at the weekend
Be interesting to see how we develop that further are we looking for a winger who cuts inside more? Or are we looking for a younger Murphy in style

Comment #18I was confident of victory against Man U but tonight will be tight. The more you win the greater the risk of an upset. Fans think you can just keep winning.
Palace play on the break and that does not suit. Plus we have only had a couple of days rest and it will likely be the same 11.
Going for a draw if Palace play well.
More optimistic about getting a win at Villa. They will be jaded after getting so close

Comment #20I am sure you lads have seen lots of post ManU match analyses (postmortems?) on how bad ManU have become. Talks of managers, systems, ownership, directors of football, yada yada yada.
To me the contrast between Newcastle players and ManU players is stark….it is the difference in character, togetherness, and cohesiveness. Eddie and his staff have built a team, not a collection of high priced individuals. ManU with a couple of exceptions, have managed to find players who want big contracts, a big payday. NUFC have brought in players who want to be part of an exciting project, to be part of a winning team!
I am sure that is why the young Spanish lad Cordero decided to sign with Newcastle. He wants to be part of el projecto! 😉

That’s parlty why I’m not overly worried about losing the likes of Isak. Him and many others that have joined, have mentioned the project excited them.
Why would they want to leave that project that excited them now? We just won a trophy, are in a great spot to get Champions League again….. surely all that does is show them the project is gathering pace?
Why would they sign up to a project and then want to leave when it’s starting to deliver on it’s promises?

Comment #22So Google says on average 65 points gets you 5th.
I wasn’t in the mood to argue so putting out here where it’s always nice and peaceful.
We got 56, right?
Would just 3 wins be enough to clinch it? So, we can afford to lose a couple? Not sure myself. Seems like everyone is chasing hard, although a couple have stumbled, admittedly.
And, traditionally, bottom clubs fighting for their very survival, do get points from teams at the top.
How about tonight, you say? I’ve approached the last few games with minimal expectations, it’s worked. So, I’m going the same, reduces disappointment too, if it happens.

I mean taking nothing for granted but we should beat Ipswich at home right?
So that leaves us only needing 2 wins at a minimum to make your target!?
Put it this way I would feel more confident if we could squeak a win out tonight
Psychologically us leap frogging Forest could make them panic as they have been ahead for so long

Comment #25Totally agree – I think reeling Forest in at this stage would deal them a huge psychological blow. We have also been there and done it with regards to securing top 4, we’d have all the momentum.
Do we envision any changes tonight or same 11 again?

Apr 16, 2025 at 5:40 PM
Comment #26I guess that Tindall will be seen to have picked the team, but after discussion with Eddie.
Catch 22.
The team that beat Manu had gelled and has momentum so I’d be inclined to keep the same, no changes.
Barnes is in a great place so he has to start. Gordon seemed to be in some discomfort in the half time warm up last time. Maybe not quite up to speed. Bring him on later as needed , fresh legs and all that

Comment #32So, we are now without , imo, the best two young fullbacks in the country, will it make a difference tonight, it could.
Trippier and Targett don`t fill me with confidence against a rapid CP forward line so i am hoping that OUR forward line are on their game.
I`ll go for a high scoring draw under the circumstances.
A draw will take us above Forest and providing we don`t totally blow it we should all having smiling faces after the game.
Unlike some, i don`t expect us to win every game and tonight is a toughie, much tougher than Leicester and Man U, regardless of home advantage.
I`m keeping my fingers crossed for this one.
